Yeah out of all the fighters i’ve play (pretty much all of them) that has to be my fave.
Helps it’s got my fave tune also it’s win win.
I like how even though it’s a shared stage i feels completely different to the fatal fury teams one, also how the time of day changes every couple of rounds, small touches like that help to immerse you into it.
Also the fact you got shit close up but you can see as far as the horizon.
Pity it’s for such a crappy game, but there was a hacked version which pretty much puts kof98 gameplay but with kof96 stages and music, which makes it a bit better to deal with
The apocalyptic theme in Tekken 6 (Fallen Colony, Jin’s stage with nukes going off outside, high roller’s club, Azazel’s loud AWWW AWWWW chants ) was neat.
you sure? I remember it doing the rounds a year or two years ago, its a Chinese hack, its a mash up of 96 98 with 2002 thrown in
its on kawaks only, its pretty much 96/98 with all the crap removed, ioris safe dp, Clark crap chin crap, I can’t remember I think some chracters even keep certain fruity 96 animations, like vice, but I might be wrong i know certain characters had new ones like yuri got some weird push move and krauser got an overhead and crappy new super.
I can sort you out if you can’t find it on the net, wont take long max size in 170 mb, it’s defiantly not mugen, i’ve played mugen and this hack in miles above anything i’ve seen or played on mugen
I remember now, anniversary edition it was called
However just looking around there seems to be a couple of versions, mine dont have the fruity new supers with terry and ryo
In fact ive just been playing, vice and mature keep there old 96 jumping cd’s and there hcf+k, ah yeah matures qcb+p feels just like 96 but hits everything else is 98, you get the general idea, they did a good job imo
that game may not feature the best stages, but they are certainly of the most relaxing and less eye distracting
background animation stays at minumum or zero, except few layers
such a stage is this
overall a fighter that is the least tiresome to play out of all the commercial fighters I played.
On a somewhat related note. A2 Birdie stage is always good for some lolz. I mean, how many fighting games have stages set inside the men’s restroom (Honda’s SFII bath stage comes close, but there’s no one using it when you fight).
EDIT:
While I’m at it, I usually like it when stages have have variations based on different times of day.
Having a fight in the middle of a race isn’t such a bad idea since it allows for a setting with a very dynamic background. However setting it at turn 1 at Interlagos blocking off the racecars (all of which appear to be out of date at that) does not do the concept justice.
For a stage that did this kind of thing right, look no further than the Nairobi stage in CvS2 which had the rally cars flying over the players heads.
