I did a search for any topic on this but i couldnt find one.
I recently bought an X arcade stick. After using a Hori EX2 with custom octagonal restrictor and ballbat top ( thanks to a guide in another thread) I cant stand the X arcade. Its horrible.
I was planning on making a mame cabinet. I dont want to use the X Arcade stick. I wanted to know if anyone could tell me the best arcade stick to use for a cabinet. Im not to good with wiring , so i wanted to use a USB converter for 2 different stick and place them in the control panel.
I was thinking of possibly buying 2 more hori sticks and using them but i wanted to check here first and see if anyone had any better (cheaper) options.
by the way you are talking I suppose you are building a cabinet with a removable control panel.
In that case I would recommend two HRAPs for your cab, both modded with octagonal restrictor plates and bat top joysticks.
If you are going for the more traditional cab design, then two Sanwa JLF sticks with octagonal restrictor plates and bat top sticks would be what you are looking for.
I wouldn’t worry about wiring too much. It can be done without any soldering at all required if you just want to make a cabinet to play mame.
First I would say go down to your local arcade and see what they’ve got there. If you find a style that you like, could be either bat top or ball top, buy the best brand for which ever one. If you like bat top you will be wanting Happ Competition sticks, if you like the ball top you’ll be wanting either Sanwa JLF or Seimitsu LS-32. I would say Siemitsu is for the perfectionist, Sanwa is absolutely fine. Same for the buttons aswell, Happ buttons are big and clicky, Sanwa are soft and sensetive.
Mameroom designs did a wonderful job with my custom control panel
I’m sure he still has my control panel on his computer so if you are looking for HRAP/EX2 layout and still want a good finish to it (black melamine) then that is what ur looking to get.
What i would like to do (if possible) is just buy two arcade sticks for PS2 and use a USB adaptor for a mame cabinet. I pretty much just wanted to build a control panel that the sticks would fit in.
HRAPs seems like it could work pretty well. Those are for PS2 and PS3 correct?
I also saw some Hori PS3 arcade stick on ebay for pretty cheap. Do you think these would work?
no, they suck. Your best solution is probably to buy an astro city control panel from Sanwa (Sanwa OOM-8-6AR-H). You can probably ask Chad from lizardlick or TheRealNeoGeo to help you in purchasing one.
Sanwa JLF sticks are about equal to Seimitsu LS-32 ones for fighters but Seimitsu is better for everything else. Sanwa’s buttons are much better than Seimitsu’s for everything though. Seimitsu buttons seem to wear down quicker than Sanwas and Happs.
So far im liking the IPAC. From what i can tell all i would need to do is screw the wires from each button to the corresponding spot on the IPAC. It could then be plugged in and recognized as a keyboard. Not sure if this would work but i was thinking of taking out the board in the Xarcade and replacing it with the IPAC.
