The BERKELEY EUDEMONIA Legacy (relocating to the SFSU Dojo thread!)

1+7 means 1 frame for activation (dramatic slo-mo freeze) , and 7 for startup (time it takes for ultra to actually hit). Note that when timed as a REVERSAL the startup is instant, or 0+7.

Frame traps are good, but only if you thing the opponent tends to press buttons during blockstrings. Mashing dp/ultra beats frame traps.

That Makoto vid was a epic frame trap example,

No worries, mate. Maybe next week?

Okay, so what if the opponent tends to crouch tech (“mash throw/option select”)? Will I get them with a frame trap like that?

I’ve been wondering about that for a while; I think this is why I’m getting hit while doing “option select”…

That said, the thing with ULTRA and COUNTER-ULTRA is confusing:

Last night, while playing the computer (only reliable way where I might get to see a scenario where I get counter-ultra… ed; I can’t set this up in training mode), I got hit out of corkscrew cross by Sakura’s ULTRA 1, but I beat out Balrog’s ULTRA 2…

Which is confusing because it says that Sakura’s U1 activates in 10 frames (since it was a reversal), but Balrog’s U2 activates in 1 frame on reversal…

LIKE, okay, so here’s the scenario:

I did f-mk, computer blocks, and then I mashed out Corkscrew Cross immediately after.

So, I get +3 since Sakura/Balrog blocked, so this means that it took 5 frames after block stun for the opponent ended for my Corkscrew Cross to come out…

Meaning, the only thing Sakura should’ve been able to throw would be something that is less 5 frames, yet I got hit with Ultra 1.

(the only reason I can think of why I would’ve been hit was because I screwed up the timing)

The puzzling thing about the Balrog scenario was that I SHOULD’VE been grabbed out of my Ultra when the computer did counter-ultra, but I wasn’t…

(the only reason I could think of for this scenario is that I was too far away to be grabbed… which sort of doesn’t make sense since Corkscrew Cross moves me forward… so I guess I must have some kind of throw invincibility during its activation?)

But, yes… let’s test this out this week during the meet; I’m very interested in knowing whether or not this plan for cheap chip damage actually works…

That said, YES, advertise the event for us!

We need to get more people from the Bay Area on board.

In any event, hope to see you at this event some time soon; people are always welcomed.

The reason why balrog ultra 2 lost is because of another thing known as invinvibility frames. In this case, dudley’s cross has 7 frames of invinc. (entire startup). Balrog’s, being a instant-grab ultra, has only one frame. So if you do forward+mk (+3) into U2, and balrog mashes 720, the grab will come out during dudley’s invulnerable state and therefore lose out.

Compare this scenario with Sakura’s u1 with 10 frames invulnerability, since she stays invincible longer, it’ll beat cross everytime in that trap. Most vanilla ultras in this game have 10 frames invuln+startup.

Oh, okay, that makes sense: Sakura is invincible longer than I am (guess this means that I can’t use this move on you if you have ultra; lawlz).

That said, with regards to the frame trap issue: is the reason why I’m getting hit during some combos even though I’m option selecting BECAUSE of a frame trap?

Or is it because I’m mashing throw incorrectly?

(ie. not in synch with your combos)

THAT SAID:

I have found a bag and have stuffed all 3 of my Arcade Sticks into it (2 TEs, 1 SE)…

The only issue I’m really worried about right now is whether having stuff packed like that is damaging the buttons or sticks…

Should I be worried?

Should I pack the Styrofoam along with the sticks?

Etc.

ALSO, I finally got registered on DUSTLOOP…

Now I just have to stop being lazy and hit up that Northcal thread.

ALSO, apparently, the DLC for Blazblue comes out in August, which is nice since I’ll have money by then; I thought this was like day one stuff.

That’s the main perk to frame traps: they punish the opponent for ‘pushing buttons’ during your blockstring. If they’re mashing anything like crouch tech or jabs, it’ll get stuffed clean (ideally), reversal moves like dp and ultras will beat the trap though.

Putting the sticks in a bag should be okay so long as they’re not banging into each other when carried. You might get some cosmetic scuffs (adds character), but nothing damaging. shrugs

Well, want these sticks to last as long as possible (don’t actually care about some scratches on the artwork or whatever).

I’m just mostly worried if having the sticks screw up because they’re not packed correctly (I’m mainly worried about the joystick having pressure on them if I don’t pack them upright).

So, okay, just make sure they don’t bang into each other when I’m walking around…

That said, I think we’re really about to blow up…

I got on DUSTLOOP and they’re apparently interested in hosting a tournament at EU (complete with STREAMING; FUCK YEAH); I sure hope it works out as I’ve already made attempts to put the organizer in contact with EU’s management.

Okay, so I should throw jab-jab-standing roundhouse a lot more when I suspect that people are pushing buttons…

(or, for that matter, I should consider when to push buttons myself)

ANYWAY, yes, thank you teacher; I feel like I have vaguely leveled up.

Good stuff.

Interesting development, hope the tourney works out! Good exposure for the venue!

Wow, maybe we can convince them to re-purpose that giant D&D room in the back for large fighting game sessions… It’s huge and I haven’t seen it used at all on Saturday nights.

Also, might be a good idea to update the first post of this thread, DKL, with the pics, games played, and latest info on pricing vs. number of logins. It’ll help newcomers get savvy on the venue without having to trudge through several pages or posting repeat questions!

I might re-tool the opening post with the info I posted over at Dust Loop…

Lemme just… stop being lazy…

Will get done later, probably.

OKAY, the opening post is now comprehensively updated…

Am I fast or am I fast? :awesome.gif:

I’mma go study now (FML).

That said, I remember the dude saying that D&D games have a tendency to… not get organized (they were trying to put one together over the course of 2 months, but people haven’t been reliably showing up… hence why he’s hanging out with us and just playing fighting games instead; lawlz).

EDIT:

OH YES, the biggest change that’s going to happen now is that I’m going to start showing up at EUDEMONIA at 3 PM until 10pm starting this week…

So, if people wanna start coming earlier, feel free to do so without worry since, like I’ve been doing for forever, I’ve been keeping the arrangement with regards to time.

I just now realized there was a thread for this; anyway I’ll be there this week (7/24) at 3pm.

Looking forward to having you; I’ll be there around that time for sure (I know I should eat first, but that usually doesn’t happen).

EDIT:

ALSO, Tao (or anyone in the thread), can you explain the significance of getting a counter-hit?

What opportunities does that open for me?

doesn’t it make your opponent a bit stunned?

Counter hits have longer hit stun and do a tad more damage than normal hits. Meaning, you can do links that aren’t possible otherwise. Right now, I only have one counter hit combo I do against Blankas that use wake-up electricity: c.MP (counter), c.MP, HK Drill. Because c.MP stuffs electricity, it gets counter hitstun, giving me enough time to link c.MP into itself and ending with cannon drill. Frame traps are one way to generate counter hits.

‘That Chun Player’ recommended me to incorporate c.HP into Ultra1 for my Cammy, which only works on counter hit. So beware my blockstrings next week… :karate:

Alien Swarm is too much fun BTW.

Okay, that makes sense (it kinda was what I thought it was); thanks for the quick response guys!

ANYWAY, I actually do know one combo that works on counter-hit:

Standing Roundhouse (counter-hit), duck, Standing Roundhouse, ex-machine gun blow, duck, ducking straight, ultra combo 2

(don’t know what else works, really… I should consider going to the Dudley board… but it’s so far away…)

That being said, is there any other indicator besides a small blurb that says “counter hit” that tells you when you land a counter hit?

I’m… not always going to be looking at that portion of the screen…

Haven’t replied to this thread for a while since I’ve been pretty busy on the weekends. What’s the status of thing? I see there’s a Friday event at someone’s place and then Saturday from 6-10 still? I actually popped in briefly by two Saturday’s ago, but there was a ton of people and I think DKL was trying to sort things out so I ended up leaving.

So what’s the situation? Four Xbox’s and at least two people need to be signed on each one?

That’s pretty much it…

But, yeah, everything has been working pretty smoothly; come join us again some time man!

(I start at 3PM every week this week, by the way; feel free to drop in around then)

EDIT: As for the Friday thing, I’ll give RADICAL REACTOR a call tomorrow and check with him if it’s still going on.

I guess I can show up to Eudemonia and figure out how much this will cost me in the long run. What’s parking like around that area? Garage or street? Payed parking only?

DKL:

Hey I’ll see you there around 3 on Sat…

I have alot of work to do, I’m entering the Nor Cal Downtown Throwdown Tourny in Lodi the next day, so I’d like to get alot of rep’s in and alittle more advice before I head out there on Sunday morning

You can park in the street, though it tends to be difficult (there is parking in front of the shop, but it’s limited and I don’t know what the time limit is)…

In addition to that, there actually is a parking garage near by:

The only problem right now is that I’m not actually sure how much parking there is and until what time the garage is open…

That being said, BART actually is the best option for people who need to come from across the bridge (Funkie actually drives, but he likes the BART since it doesn’t entail the hassle of searching for parking and driving and whatever)…

But, yes… I should likely try to get a better grasp of CAR options in the area; I should work on that this weekend…

In any case, feel free to drop by when you have some free time.

There are places where it’s FREE to park, but I don’t know all the info on that (it might be free to park at night, but then not before 6pm, for example)…

Yeah, I need to seriously figure this aspect of the are out; I’ll try to get back to people on that ASAP.

Oh cool, good luck with that; yeah, drop by and let’s try to level up before your competition thing; can’t make it myself, but give em’ hell!

EDIT:

I main Dudley, but I play several characters… don’t know if that will help, but the thing about STREET FIGHTER is that you really need to know your matchups, amongst other things…

That being said, I don’t actually know good tricks with other characters, so I’m not quite sure of how much use I’ll be, but we’ll try stuff when you show up this Saturday.

EDIT EDIT:

ALSO, there might be a meet this Friday; I just need to confirm the thing with RADICAL REACTOR and see if it’s still going on…

Hey all,

I hate to disappoint yet again, but I’m going to need to cancel for Friday (July 23). Some of my close friends will be in town for a few days, so I won’t be able to host as I had planned.

I may be able to catch up with you guys at Eudemonia on Saturday though!

Again, sorry for being so flakey :frowning:
