I’m bringing third strike next week for sure. I’m totally ready to run this tournament. Since I’ve had experience with running tournaments before, I’m more than ready to do it. I think we can get a two setups going too with the stuff I can gather up. Takeover tournament? Let’s do this. $5 entry sound good?
But what would we be paying for renting the space?
Like… will all the money go to the shop? Or is there some kind of division of money between the shop and the tourney winners?
That said, how do we go about PS3/X-Box preferences?
(I don’t have any PS3 gear, actually…)
Anyway, I’mma keep my eye on the thread…
That said, should we be making another thread in the Events forum or something after we sort stuff out?
(I have like no tourney experience, so I have no idea how any of this stuff actually works… like, with rules and whatnot)
That said, I still am a little weary about holding this the same day as NORCAL INSTALL mainly because they’re going to be having a lot of people and I’m still not certain how we can fit 2 tournaments in the same building… EU is pretty big, but I’m not sure if it’s THAT big.
(like, INSTALL will be having Iplaywinner’s streaming gear being ran all over the place and stuff, so I’m not certain how much access we will have to power supplies and whatever)
Don’t worry about it; we’ve been holding the meets down…
Just finished a 4 player run-through of that Scott Pilgrim game. That game is goooood.
The NorCal install is going to be running tourneys for several other games like Melty Blood and GG. Might be a pretty crowded day…
Nevertheless $5 entry sounds like a fair deal! I think it’s best if we stick to one platform for however many setups we bring, it’s simpler to deal with, I find.
We missed you snakexeyez! Happy belated B-Day. :woot:
For roadtrip ideas, I nominate going to the biweekly Shadowbrooke tourneys out in Concord. I went to the first one and it’s a great venue, they have quite a few ringers there, and they mentioned lowering the entry fee (was originally $15). I don’t drive, but I’d much rather carpool there than take BART again (90 minute, $16 round trip )
the shadowbrooke tourneys don’t workout for me (i have to manage the store Sundays/Mondays)
so yeah…as for the mini tourney for SSFIV…i think it’s really short notice for that to happen…plus Dominic is right…there’s gonna be hella ppl there for Blaze Boooo…let’s jus hold something like a tournament …like money matches or something…either way this goes I’m pretty much down for… =]
Or we could just fall back on that good ol attention getter, noise! But definitely 3S will be in the house on Sat. Might even get a few guys from my 3S crew to drop in and check out the action. A few words of warning though, xbox 3S is glitchy on 360 because of some backwards compatibility quirks. I think the most glaring one though is the super jump slo-mo glitch which means if you play elena, oro, yun, chun and I think necro( I may be forgetting other characters with useful superjumps) you might get a bit annoyed. Its not gamebreaking, it just takes some getting used to.
The firm I work is looking to hire a receptionist/file clerk I am looking for someone who is computer -illiterate-. If anybody has needs a part time job Mon, Wed, and Fridays (but only for the next 2 months) let me know.
Though, I would likely go out there with the intention of pimping our weekly meets.
That said, people over at N-Philes like the Scott Pilgrim game too; I should look into it…
(need to check how much money I still have for the month… kinda went on a buying rampage before last week’s meet)
I must resist the temptation to post a youtube link to that song “Birthday Sex”…
If I wasn’t on LSAT classes right now, I’d actually jump on this ASAP…
Damn…
In any event, thanks for posting this; it might come in handy for some people following the thread.
I’m down for some trolling; lawlz.
(but, seriously, make sure to not get into fights, guys! That said, I play both games, so I’ll likely run some BB casuals in which I can get my ass handed to me by the high level players)
==============================================
ANYWAY, as for Street Fighter related activities:
I’ve been practicing with Guile and the most difficult thing I’ve come across so far is FADC into SONIC HURRICANE…
It took me like 10 minutes to figure out how to do Makoto’s Parry Loop in Blazblue, but I can’t even do this shit…
Not that I haven’t made progress: I sort know how to do DASH-IN SONIC HURRICANE and it’s essentially the major part of FADC ULTRA 2…
That said, it’s actually hard to consistently land cLP -> cMP… which is sad because I need to be landing this in order to make it to HK FLASH KICK (at this point, I will really only do that combo if I have enough meter for FADC; otherwise, I should stick to HP Sonic Boom, but it does significantly less damage)…
Strangely enough, it’s easier to land that link with TWO cLPs, but I want to be able to land it from cLK startup…
ANYWAY, haven’t been too intense in the practice yet mainly because I play a lot of online (this is significantly different from BBCS because I didn’t have 1 million friends playing it; so… I haven’t done enough training mode, really).
with all this street fighter X tekken talk my attention is drawn to tekken 6 as of late…i know that i’m not good at it but…i know how to (sorta) play it. I know the game isn’t commin out for awhile but thats doesnt mean we shouldn’t try and master some of it so when it does come out we’re ready, anyone in?
another thing we gotta do is figure out a sort of “line” system at our meets. Not like i mind how things are goin’ but it’s hard to try and get a game in now since we have more ppl…suggestions? One thing i was thinkin about is more then two setups for SSFIV maybe three setups it and a forth setup for 3S/MVC2/SSFIITHDR/Tekken 6 (Bcuz BB:CS has hella freeloaders = P).
Actually, Zaku and his brother have been paying for BBCS (with 2 day passes), so there’s really no problem with having a setup towards BBCS.
In any event, we only have… was it 5 X-Boxes?
I leave one open for the regular HALO dude who drops by every week (well, actually, he gets there early, but I’d prefer it if we didn’t monopolize all of the X-Boxes since it’ll sour relations… and it’s not like we need to since 2 setups is actually a lot).
That said, I would’ve learned how to play Tekken 6 if I got on it when it first came out, but I’m too lazy to pick it up now and will likely just learn how to play Tekken X Street Fighter.
As for the “line system”, I think we do actually have one (it’s pretty much just the winner staying on), but after a couple of hours, we were just chilling out and it was just whoever wanted to get on could get on…
2 Setups for SF is actually pretty fine for now, but we may have to start bringing our own things if the meets get bigger (which might be a possibility soon, but I’m just waiting for NORCAL INSTALL to happen and to see how it’ll work).
yeh i know those guys but i’m talkin about thr random others that camp waiting for us to play…mostly the ppl that play BBCS there that don’t post here needa GTFO or bring your own stuff or something lol.
WTF when did this video recording thing happen? The moment I stop going this get good.
@DKL I also wouldn’t mind sneaking away from the ball and chain to do a roadtrip to Concord; we should get a little team battle action going on Berkley Team v. Concord and we would alternate venues or let winner choose. AmbiguousCrosup could set up a Richmond Team and we could call the SF guys to join in on the phone.
More vids, nice! I want to get a decent camera at some point to record more matches of mine at EU and other sessions to later review and post for crit.
We usually have a line system, but there’s a growing number of players who prefer to do best of 3 games instead of one-and-done, the former is a better training format and allows players to settle into their match. As long as we keep the format consistent for how many games are played, people should have an easier time getting ‘next’ since there was some confusion last week.
Dunno know about Tekken 6, but the new VF5 intrigues me, but like the previous iteration, may not reach stateside. Too many fighters, not enough hours in the day
We’d have so many more setups if Capcom would finally cave and make Super for PC!
I was too hung over to drag myself over to Eudemonia this past Saturday (I think I forgot it was a Saturday too). I have my company’s picnic this Saturday, but may be back in time to come in around 9pm. Does anyone stick around that late to play SSFIV?
People can actually stay till one, but I gotta go and drag my gear with me at 10PM; if someone has extra sticks or an extra copy of SF, then y’all can actually keep going till’ 1am.
====================
That said, I was playing some online with Will [Rufio] and I was taken aback by how good EX HOOLIGAN THROW is…
I’m used to getting up from crouch every time I see a character air-borne (or mainly with Cammy, because of dive-kick pressure; I usually sit still and punish jump-ins with cr. HP, but it’s hard to do this with Cammy because dive-kick stops her in the air and cr. HP will whiff)
It lands all day and is hard to punish once Cammy is out of the air.
ANYWHO… gotta work on conditioning myself to sit still with Dudley every time an airthrow type move gets tossed out.
(not hard with Guile though because of flash kick…)
The key to punishing Cammy’s Hooligan is learning how to react to it while she’s still airborne. Hooligan can be punished with most anti-air options. In Dudley’s case he can do:
-Ultra 2
-EX Jet Upper (I’ve been able to grab dudley out of his basic jet upper)
-c.HP
-mash low jab (makes cammy reset, here, you can either try a quick meaty or bait a dp)
-dash forward (cammy lands behind, she’s safe, but most cammy’s try to keep attacking in this situation)
That said, beware getting baited into wanting to punish hooligan too eagerly. I’ve been finding jab and medium hooligan surprisingly effective against edgy opponents.
