i wanna play some p2p games. i live in the Seattle area. where is the best place to match make? i don’t have or know how to use irc
rediculous, its been months and theres only like 4 games on p2p while kaillera is packed with laggy games…
Well…p2p is not something that everyone is on all the time. People are lazy and would rather just look for quick games to play on Kaillera than really understand how to use better tools to play online. They don’t know any better so they just deal with whatever they see people regularly playing on. There’s a lot of people on Kaillera that don’t post on SRK or even know what the p2p client is. It’s kinda your job to inform decent new people that you meet up with that there’s a better way to play the game.
Then it would be good to tell them about SRK or srkkaillera mIRC chat room. It also helps if you get their AIM info so that you can set up a match as soon as you see them online on AIM. Those things make it easier to match up with people and find games for p2p. If you’re just waiting for someone to pop up on the p2p waiting games list all day…you’ll be staring at your computer screen for a long time.
where do you live? let’s get some p2p games in.
i live on the east coast but i only play garou
hey, i just downloaded the lastest version of mame and put the kailleraclient.dll in the folder, but when i open up the netplay it jumps straight to the server list skiping the p2p menu. on mame 0.117 how ever the p2p option works but then i can’t play with ppl who have .119.
Damnit, I’m gonna need help So I got the p2p, and I’ve try playing a few people. One is in Toronto, one was in NY, and one was in Cali (I’m in IL). For some reason, I can’t get a good connection with anybody. They’ll only stay smooth maybe 10 percent of the time if that. The rest of the time the game plays real jerky and the sound is going crazy.
Some background: Mame plays just fine offline. I used the same mame version as all my opponents (I’ve done mame32++ 117 and 119 both), I’m going through a router, but only one other computer is connected to it, and it was hibernating during all my games. I had no other programs running (besides the usual background windows xp shit and like, my virus software) during the NY game. I run 3s in a window and my computer has plenty of power (3.4 ghz p4 hyperthreading, 1 gig ram). My connection to the router is through a cable and I’ve got broadband service. What else am I forgetting? If anyone has any advice, please let me know. I’m at a loss. I’ll answer any questions. Throw some hints at me We can do it in PM or on AIM or whatever.
PS: in the mameppk gui, there’s an option for “multi-threading.” Is that to take advantage of hyper threading, since my processor has it?
One more thing: in the kaillera p2p window, when a person hosts… can someone explain the various “Smoothing” options in the drop down box?
^^Try this: Make sure you and your opponent have the same “Video Output Method”-type (preferably Direct3D) and the same connection-type under the “Client” mode (for example, EXCL, GOOD, LAN, etc.).
And as for smoothing, this is what 0746 said (back in early October of 2007):
*"Thats a replacement for the “Add an extra frames delay to smooth…” option. The first option will just take half of your ping for delay calculations. The second option will add 8 ms to ping. The 3rd and the 4th option wont add anything but will add 1 and 2 frames to the calculated delay before using it.
Force port is an option for those who port forwarded with routers and can connect directly using IP but not through waiting games list." *
I hope that helps.
I’ll give that all a shot. Any advice is good man. Thanks
does anyone know of a front end that supports mame32k and kaillera? e.g. hosts a p2p game from a menu. kaillera isn’t too fun on arcade cabinets right now.
when i try forwarding my port, it says the number already exists, i put my computers ip and a whole bunch of others, but it says all exist.
He needs “port forwarding.” Yes Hamachi can help.
Damn I’m gonna have to rewrite this tut for next ver when I get time =/
Apologies, I’m used to other games where usually only the host needs to have ports opened for a game to be playable. I didn’t realize those connecting needed to have them open too.
Thanks.
I don’t know if this is the right thread but…
For some reason, between the hours of 6-2AM (with varying times), whenever I go online with Mame (either .64 or, as of late, Mame++117), the Kailera window opens up for approximately 5 seconds, before closing because of an error. It works after a certain time though (after midnight), so I don’t know what’s up…I’m not on a router…I have a direct line to my cable modem in the living room. Any help, por favor?
Also, is it just me, or is it like the hardest task ever to get games going at certain times. I’ll start the game when someone joins, and it’ll skip the waiting for players window, which at that point means I’m playing solo…I’m guessing that’s all bandwidth related though.
you are not the only one to have that for sure
mame32++ has a problem which requires it to be restarted after you load any game once.
the 119 link on the first post attempts to fix the problem so you don’t have to restart but I’d recommend not using any kinds of mame kaillera builds at all.
Yeahman, I’m having issues with .64 as well.
Same shit; it’ll be working fine for a stretch, than out of the blue I’ll try to connect to Kaillera and get the same result (“recent servers” window will load up, but before I can do anything I get the error message/crash).
Restarting the PC has no effect, and I’ve tried varying degrees of delete/reinstalls (first just the kaillera client, on up through completely wiping the mame folder and starting fresh) to no avail.
So I’ll get frustrated and not even try to connect for a few days then bam, out of the blue it’ll be working fine again for a stretch, than back to square one.
Tested w/whichever revision of FBAE I have and that just takes me to guru meditation land (though behind the error box I can at least see kaillera pinging and what not) and some kaillera exception message (though to be fair, I’d never even tried to take it online as I just use it to try out shit in 3S).
In summation: //?
To those who care, I found a way around the problem…
If you’re able to, when you load up Kailera Netplay, QUICKLY double click on any recent server or w.e. to start logging in…if you can do that, you’ll stay connected.
On a side note, someone REALLY needs to update this app. I know I can’t really say shit since I don’t know the first thing about how it works, but yeah…would be nice, jus saying.
Saw that “fix” everywhere, but didn’t work for me…and I’m quick man (just did like eight things while you read that), so I switched out the stock/anti3d .dlls for 0.9a3 (like some weird archived post from years ago told me to).
Props to Google for serving up answers to apparently ancient connection problems.
Back on now and wondering why I ever missed this shit in the first place. :wonder:
Fucking lunatics everywhere.
//Everyone should check out the p2p.
