The Beer Thread

Tried Hoegaarden. It’s not bad, but it’s not really my favorite. The orange flower or whatever gives it a soy sauce taste that I don’t dig, which means that it doesn’t beat Michelob Ultra, Tiger Beer, or Bierbitzch as my top beers.

all those beers are extremely flavorless. i love tiger tho, great pilsner.

hoegarden is ass tho, it’s original brewer even hates it now.

you know it’s made at 10 abv and then straight up WATERED DOWN to 5?

that’s some bullshit.

The bottle says 4.9% now, so it probably got stepped down even more.

And yeah. I prefer less-flavorful beers, if you couldn’t tell. I hate Guinness.

tsingtao
jever
pinkus organic
chechvar
pilsner urquell
*dock st bohemian pilsner.

recomondations for that ass.

edit- i didn’t go into the more popular asian pilsners because i figured you tried them but japan is probably the best pilsner producing country outside of europe.

Yeah, I’ve had most of the Japanese ones, as well as Taiwan Beer and Tsingtao. I’ll try the others, though.

Did you mean Pilsner Arquel for the last one? I have had that before.

it’s definitely pilsner urquell.

and since i’m in beer mode right now let me drop some knowledge all over about pilsner urquell.

while not my favorite pilsner, it is the original pilsner. when i say original i mean the style didn’t even exist until this beer. back in the day all beer was dark and muddy and gross looking so people drank out of big wooden cups or iron or whatever. anyway, pilsner urquell was the first light golden beer produced where people were actually like “hey dude, i kinda wanna look at how pretty it is”

so they invented… GLASSES. Yes, the fact that you drink out of glasses now is because of pilsner urquell. pretty cool i guess. it’s also one of the first filtered beers which means that you can actually see through it instead of it just being clouded with sediment and yeast.

and even after that they designed pilsner glasses which are tall and slender and always keep a 1/4 inch head if poured correct, because head is always good. if you don’t think head on your beer is good than you should stop throwing keggers with natty ice and take the time to drink some real beer.

anyway pilsner urquell is now handled by SABMiller but still upholds it’s reputation, I couldn’t tell you for certain but i’d say the recipe is probably still pretty close, although in it’s beginning stages it was probably a lot more like pinkus organic. but then again i have no idea, so who cares about this paragraph.

words.

Natty Ice really is the worst, huh? I’ve never actually tried it.

Oh, and I tipped 40%, so yeah.

the worst beer i’ve ever had is cave creek chili ale.

it’s got a chili pepper in the bottle and it’s fucking disgusting.

Do you have any brewing tips? My roomies are on batch #14 or so by now.

don’t go crazy, and if it’s not going well just hop the fuck out of it. i bartend there, i don’t actually brew. sometimes i volunteer to help but mostly i just end up shoveling yeast around =(

but at least i can say i help make some of my own beer, and it’s fucking good.

also marijuana is a direct relative of the hop.

just so you know.

so who here is no a fan of wheat beers?

imo they leave a horrid aftertaste. I had a friend buy one of those Flying Dog sampler packs when we had a party a while back and after it was all done one of the ones that was left was a wheat ale.

Are there any good wheat ales? The only one that i can think of that is remotely tolerable is Blue Moon but even that I would pass up for a good Yeungling(seppy you should def. try this one yo)

I had a couple Gulden Draaks the other night. Woke up and found out I had made 3 seperate shits on my carpet.

Funny you mention this… I tried a Sam Adams Cherry Wheat one time, it was pretty good. As with most beers that have some exotic/unusual ingredient, you probably wouldn’t want to drink a lot of this in one sitting, but a couple would be enjoyable. I don’t know if it’s a “true” wheat beer, just going by the name. It was in one of those variety twelve packs - I have not seen it as a stand-alone 6 pack.

:wasted: I’m going to take this as a recommendation against…

i hate SA cherry wheat

but yea there are lots of awesome wheat beers.

stick with german and belgium ones tho.

st bernardus wit is my favorite.

When I drink Beer, I prefer Miller High life personally. It’s pretty cheap and I think it tastes great!

But whenever I go out to a Beer specialty store or see a beer I haven’t tried at a restaurant I always gotta get at least one. I had this odd one from Germany at a place called the Orlando Ale house it had orange and cheery flavoring to it. It was interesting to say the least, but I’d recommend it!

Soy Sauce?! You serious?

Your taste buds have yellow fever, or the export version has a completely different taste from what we drink out of the barrel here

I wish you guys could have Hoegaarden straight from the tap here, and to know if you still have the same opinion then.

I’m curious now - if you (goes for 3bir1xah as well) try Leffe Bruin & Blonde, post up. Those breweries are bound to fuck with the taste depending on geo location, for brand purposes etc.

I think someone else mentioned it as well, in the other beer thread.

Abita Beer’s Purple Haze is my favorite microbrew. I’ve only seen it available at BevMo and one bar, the bar I used to work at. I haven’t enjoyed beer in almost 3 years. All the beer available to me (overseas) is swill. Can you believe that people overseas are willing to drop 5 dollars for a bottle of Corona (ugh)…at a supermarket??? Ridiculous.

plz tell me how to get hop head. i live in toronto. when i went to my uncles place we drank some kegs of hop head and im basically addicted to hops, and find any beer without it to be not of the same class.

im currently drinking true north pale ale http://www.magnotta.com/Brewery/ProductDetail.aspx?ProductID=280 and tankhouse ale http://www.thebeerstore.ca/beers/branddetails.asp?id=1310 because its the hoppiest stuff at the beerstore.

I love beer.

Man, that should be good. The longer you age 'em, the better.

I just bottled last week, and finally got to try my Old Ale. Really good, but is very green. Needs to age in the bottle a little longer. I usually drink my batches up before the are “ready”, though. Too good.

I love wheats, for a different beer. Most are a little sweeter. Here’s one I picked up at the grocery store. There whole line is great:
