The Basketball Thread

yo, i cant play ball anymore…i overpower every shot now, I dunt knnow how much power to put in my shots now…

use the floater…

hey guys.

does anyone have tips to improve dribbling? i always got made fun of and was never good at baseketball or making field goal foul shots.

anyway in all seriousness i know its embarrassing but i could never put the ball between my legs without it being unnatural like some other people since im tryint to lose weight this seems perfect. any help i appreciate you guys.

Keep practicing and also watch people who do it, its a rhythm more than anything. Granted, I am not strong dribbling either, (played big man majority of the time) so my dribbles are real weak, but I am trying to get better as well.

Try dribbling up and down the court with your right hand, then back with your left until if feels natural. If you need to look at the ball to keep it in front of you, do so, but you will need to look up. Get your basics first before you trying “fancy” stuff.

Played this morning after a week off (which I needed cause I pulled some muscle in my good shoulder and bruised my shooting thumb); felt good and did good; got bowed to hell though (Old Man Syndrome)

I used to be just like that about 3 years ago. I couldn’t dribble with my weaker hand, I really just slapped the ball when I dribbled, and going through the legs was an impossibility.

Then I just buckled down, and did endless drills all by my lonesome. Through the legs while standing still, behind the back, and crossovers. For hours, just repetitive things like that. And throwing in whatever moves you see on TV (not streetball) doesn’t hurt either. Just keep doing those things repeatedly, and dribbling will be second nature in no time…

I just joined a rec league for the first time this year and theres a team of 60+ year olds… all of them! They don’t even bend over for loose balls, its crazy.

Everyone thinks they can just run em, but its not so simple. These guys take their time (there’s no shot clock) and work for a high percentage shot. On top of that, they’ve all been playing together for around 30 years! They set all kinds of screens, pick and rolls, give and goes; its really fun to watch. So far they’re 3-1.

We play against them next week and I can’t wait to see how it goes.

Haha what? It’s not basketball without a shot clock.

Wow I didn’t know a thread like this existed.
I’m thinking about playing in a Philippino league, since I play pickup games with a few of the people in there already.

5’6"
220+ lbs

Strengths: Strong, quick (not fast, quick), decent handles, a ‘go left’ right handed player. Can finish with both my left and right hand. Decent rebounder, good cuts towards the basket, can post with left and right hand, good off the ball defender. Good passer in the post. Can pretty much shoot from anywhere.

Weaknesses: Bad on ball defense, inconsistent jump shot, bad fastbreak decisions, terrible stamina, no athleticism, no explosiveness. Don’t play to my strengths enough.

BTW what is everyone wearing to the court these days?
I only play pickup games so I just wear these cheap Adidas Feathers I found for 12 bucks.

Lose some weight and stamina shouldn’t be such a problem, 220+ a little heavy for 5’6 :P. I wear Jordans when I hoop… basketball shoes are meant for basketball not one of those guy who wear it cause I think they look kool anymore to old for that shit

I have some 2003 shoes; still feel good for me. Double socks, And 1 shorts and cut off shirt.

Yea I know, but I’m not ‘fat’ just a bit lean.
The weight thing though, yea that’s why I started playing basketball.

haha yea… thats Long Beach intermediate recreational league for ya. On top of that they don’t stop the clock unless its for timeouts or under 2 minutes. Free throws really chew up the time.

We lost our first game tonight:mad: The other guys’ zone-d shut us down. And to make it worse, at one point there was a loose ball right near my feet and my soccer instincts kicked in. I rolled the ball to me, scooped it up towards my hands and thought to my self “what the fuck are you doing”. Everyone lol’d:rofl::rofl:

straight up street baller :woot:

Injury Report:

Ok, I somehow bruised my shooting thumb (Not the knuckle, but the lower bone) and it really affects my shot. I’ve injuried it before, and really only time heals it (don’t help that I play 3 times a week so it gets no rest)

I was talking to another guy about it, he said to wrap it up; has anyone done this before? I normally try to play through pain/injury, but when it hampers your shooting you become just a body on the court.

word, i rock some old ass air flights from like '03-04 when i ball as well. i think i’mma cop some new kicks for cheap since footlocker.com is having a huge ass sale.

Bumblebee-colored Adidas Decades , smallish t-shirt, and school team shorts. Keep it simple…

anybody getting the Nike Hyperdunks?

I hear they are light as hell in terms of weight. Good traction, and will be very effective on the court.

I’m getting my Olympic colorway on opening day (july 26)

Here are some pics. Enjoy

Whats the cost…150-200…more?

Shoes look tight, but I ain’t shelling that much out for fashion on the court.

Footlocker is having the friends and family sale, 30% of this weekend. I need some new shorts and some socks (blowing holes in the heels)
