The Basketball Thread

watch out with jumping with too much weigts on. It can affect ur knees pretty bad. I just suggest doing toe raises and squats.

Squats are SO much better for increasing jumping that any type of shoes not to mention it will make your entire lower body strong not just your calves.

I played university ball here in Canada while in university but our team wasn’t very good.

got into martial arts/dancing since i graduated last april…i play ball maybe once a week now when it used to be once a day.

^no shit…but, you cant do squats everywhere. Obviously if you play ball somewhat serious you do some kinda of weight-training. Strength shoes are perfect for during the day and you cant work-out (school/work ect)
Those are the reason im able todunk today…even if it is only one-handed

I dont really like dunking tho…i only do that when i wanna show off…i all about doing fingerrolls…so much sexier

Well I assumed everyone had access for a weight room or a gym or some shit.

I remember the first time I ever dunked in grade 6 I thought it was the biggest thing in the world.

Now I’d rather a jumper.

omg i have the exact same problem, thought it was a weird thing lol

“As soon as a dunk is worth three points, I’ll start doing it!”

I didn’t start dunking until last year (embarrassing being 6’3" now), but that seems to be all anyone cares about in a tall black guy’s game. I prefer layups and jumpers, due to the unnecessary nature of dunks…

Yea, and going to places where in between games you have youngin’s trying to dunk and be all fancy and shit in front of the dames…loses its luster quick:annoy:

You can outplay a dunker anyday with fundamentals…

so i separated my shoulder a month ago and haven’t played since. but i have been dribbling non stop. i just use 2 balls and dribble them simultaneously or alternate hands. i go up and down my driveway, cross over, and spin. my handles are comming along nice. i already could go left and finnish left, so this will be pretty good.

Especially in pickup games, where fouls are almost never called, or just = possession instead of free throws.

Yup. I played one the other day, and as long as you keep them outside the lane, they’re useless…

Hyperdunks my nig

no way, kobe dont even wear the hyperdunks. They are bad for you. Lamar Odam and Pau Gasol were wearing them and look how well they did in the finals…

yeah…I was joking.

Game 6 wasn’t funny…:crybaby:

Sneakers…

I’m looking into a new pair to play in, why tips, suggestions?

The thing I hear most NBA pros go for are mid-tops (unless they are contracted to wear something different). It prevents ankle rolling and still has the comfort unlike high tops. Other than that, there is no real difference in the world of basketball shoes.

Does anyone have tips on how to improve floaters? My game would be nasty if I had a better floater in my arsenal.

Eat more fiber?

i use alot of runners/floaters/tear drops. the way i practice them is to start at the half court line and dribble hard to the free throw line. when i get there i jump and put them up with a soft touch. i practice those with my right and left hands.

when I go to the “floater”, I usually do a shallow jump towards the basket with minimal follow-though, letting the momentum of the jump carry the ball in a high arc to the hoop…
