Its either really. When you hear the smacking of skin on a layout the guy who did it normals says “I got em” or “hold ball”.
Yeah if it’s obvious like that, I guess. But what about if someones going up for a layup, and they get handled? We don’t have any “set” rules about calling, but it’s usually the defense who calls it.
If that happens, it depends on the person really. I mean, if someone is going right at me and I bump them mid air, I will not call foul. They can, if they do then I wouldn’t be upset, but if they make the shot while I bumped them, i’m not going to be a bitch and give them the foul. (point over foul anyway).

kind lame, but…

Feeling a nice burning sensation under my knee…great!
In short, got jumpers knee…SUCKS!
Don’t cuff the ball…it leads to more ‘getting hung’ moments than not being able to get up there in the first place.
Have the mentality that you are going to dunk before you even get the ball. Granted for me its different as I play the middle, so my footwork was based on ‘drop step dunk’, ‘head fake dunk’, etc…but in general, if you don’t ahve the mentatlity you miss chacnes and never create them.
Its technically an offensive foul, but they never call it in the NBA, use your off hand to keep people away from the ball (think of it as face-masking for basketball)
Try to put the ball ‘over & thru’ the hoop if you just go over it hits back of the rim and you risk the embarassing ‘BOINK’.
On double rims, avoid dunking, if you do dunk, don’t hango n the rims, just throw it down…the rims hurt your hand after a while.
All I can think of atm.
I’m still thrown off by people saying ‘21’…I’m like WTF is that, then I realize they are talking about 33 but to 21 points.
I hate playing outside. Hell I hate being outside in the first palce. give me a indoor court anytime. Truth be told I hate streetball as well…its not very ‘big man’ oriented. If you arent’ a dribbler you are compeltley at the mercy of whoever is.
I do league play now. I’m easily biggest on the squad, but the guy who runs the team plays the post so I’ve become a power foward. Its weird playing top o the key when my whole life I was in the paint. I’m 2/4 in 3’s last season though heh.

yeah, I’ve got that in compound with Osgood Schlatter’s disease, so I’m kinda hobbled right now. In the middle of my high jump season, too…
That sucks…My knee feels WAY better today then the past couple. Iced it while watching the 4 hour NBA game…LOL.
Taking a week off though, can’t get more hospital bills
Haha, This pretty much describes me. I am very confident in my shooting ability, am about 6’0-6’1. I have a large wingspan as well so rebounding isn’t too bad of a problem.
Main problem that I notice whenever I play is that I prefer playing the small forward because of my shots and speed but my ball handling keeps getting worse. Looks like I gotta do some old school dribble drills.
I can’t drive at all because of ball handling, it gets to me in the middle of a drive so I then either pass or try for a shot (it works but I’d prefer to hold off on shots and drive more).
Any suggestions or should dribble drills work out?
practice some moves. crossovers, spins, shakes, stepbacks. drills are always good, but the best dribblers on earth (Alston, J-Will, T. Ford, etc.) likely didn’t gain them from repetitive whitebread practice drills, J.S.
Haha true. Not gonna be a success story overnight just practicing basic skills.
Dribble drills (as I posted) sound more intense than I meant. I kinda meant just typical dribbling in different ways to get a feel for the ball. I am able to crossover and that, I just felt my overall feel for dribbling was not there.
It’s almost like I know what I want and have the speed for it, but the dribbling his holding me back.
But thanks for the reply, I thought this thread was dead as I was posting
Hmm … any of you guys with some help against taller offensive players which like to post up or faster guards (besides backing off lol)? I have not the greatest defence instincts, sucks like my outside shoot and when people are stronger and push me around …, well summer is comming and I plan to play more again. I seriously need some pointers on the defence aspect, even freetime ballers have pride.:nunchuck:
Quick. Hands.
Taking the ball away before the shot ever gets up is the best way to frustrate big guys. And even before you get to that point, front the player and don’t let him post you too deep towards the basket. Don’t ever let him just catch a bounce post-pass and drop a move on you…
Wooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooow, I fail so hard at driving in from the left. If there’s a defender, i’m done.
I need to practice this shit hardcore.
Front in like turning sideways on them when they try to push?
@DaDesiCanadian
So I assume your right hand is a lot better then your left at dribbling or do you just have problems in adjusting to the other side in terms of shoots and the angle?
Yea my left hand use to be whack to be I kind of got lucky that I broke my right hand back in HS. I was then force to learn to dribble with my left hand. Blessing in disguise. If you can dribble to your weak side and shoot it really put the defender at a huge disadvantage.

The first one he does is the pull up jumper and if you can learn that from both your right and left hand you are golden.
Only if they’re that strong and are trying to bully you aside. If you have an advantage or can just just body them up, front them completely, hands up. Be aware of the ball though…
Planning to play some ball tomorrow with some friends. We actually got this into some group thing that happens 2 -3 times a week.
I’ll try to list some of the things I had trouble working on so I can get some input on my game.
Still not sure how my defense is as I haven’t played “seriously” in a while.
Came back with a vengeance this morning. Bought 2 knee straps and went all out. Knees feel fine! Trying to see if I can write it off as medical expenses (36 bucks worth)
Back kills from yesturday lol. Ended up meeting some guys at the court and got some 4 on 4 games in.
I never drove once, and eventually they noticed. Defense was ok but I had to grab rebounds as my friends are “casual players” and aren’t used to boxing out. I had to guard two guys and watch for passes a lot of the time too. I felt that I could read the passes but wasn’t able to act because I didn’t want to leave my man open.
I enjoyed playing the leader though, I got to handle the ball a lot more and set up plays like I was a point guard.
We lost most of our games, btw.
