The Bama Thread - Divided Yet United!

Yeah, it’s a shame. I’m guessing they couldn’t get hold of a sponsor for a second tourney.

Every tournament I’ve ever been to in Alabama and Georgia that wasn’t hosted in somebody’s house had a ten dollar Venue fee to play, with ten dollars entry for each tournament.

If it’s not run by a video game store or somewhere similar with their own setups and games already, then somebody’s going to have to rent a spot somewhere to host the tournament. If everybody pays five bucks to get in and play (in Montgomery, no less), then there’s no way the tournament organizer can come out even, much less make money. Ten to get in and ten to play, with the option to waive the ten dollar entry if you bring a setup is pretty much the only way an organizer can make any money while having a decent pot for the winners at the same time.

I don’t give a shit about Smash or Black Cocks or whatever, I mean fighting game tournaments. Every monthly in the history of forever has been ten and ten.

Also, majors are way more than twenty bucks. It’s usually anywhere between twenty and thirty for the badge, then another ten for each game. CEO was forty for the badge, then ten per game. Not to mention your hotel, your gas, your food for the weekend…

I’m not talking about tournaments that are far away anyway, I said local tournaments. And why would you go to an out of state tournament with a ten dollar entry fee anyway? Unless you’re absolutely godlike, that can’t be a good investment. Gas is 3.30 per gallon.

havent seen ya name around do you play anything else besides vf?

soooo what yall think about this? Basically how it breaks down is 50% of the total pot goes to the winners (Top 3) 10% will go to Charity and the remaining 40% goes towards venue fees and other costs. this is from the facebook page. yall have fun with this one

I mean, I don’t run tournaments or anything, but isn’t venue fee used for the venue cost and other stuff? Why is he taking money out the pot to pay for venue?

RAekwon197, hit me up with a pm with your number!! What’s the deal man!!

And I didn’t know so many people playing games in montgomery, i got to get out more. Been busy holding it down, just got a newborn baby, so the last 13 months been awol. Anyway ike hit me up wtf. Lost my numbers.

wes the tournament in question is $20 venue fee $10 tournament, read it again

also if you click on pee wee’s name it says “member since august 2005” that might be relevant information here

Yes, I was saying that most tournaments have $10 venue and $10 per game.

Also, I don’t care at all about join date, people put way too much weight on that shit here anyway.

then it sounds like you were in agreement with him?

@peewee
Other costs could be but not limited to rental of tv’s and systems , payment to staff and other inconveniences.

heres the next question? is the payout still 50% (top 3), 10% charity, and 40% venue?

First of all, I’m pretty much immune to this “you’re new, you suck at everything I’m good at” mentality. I know you go to local tournaments to learn new matchups and get better, and maybe win some money for your trouble. You go to a major to compete, you go to a local for a mixture of competition and learning experience (I don’t really do money matches, it’s like paying for casuals that could be free.) I haven’t been on the scene as long as some people, but I have been to every Revival over the last six months, three of the Birmingham monthlies, a couple Battle and Brew Marvel 3 weeklies, CEO, and Final Round. I’ve been playing fighting games since 2003 with Marvel 2 in the arcades (Not counting Champion Edition on Genesis). I started going to tournaments when I moved to Auburn and got some steady competition via Anotak, SSJ George Bush, and now Pauliwood and Tradgedy, to name a few. I don’t plan on stopping anytime soon either.

Secondly, I don’t care what it cost to enter Final Round back when Pong was the featured game, you said majors were 20 and up, and I said that you can’t enter a major for twenty bucks any more. Also, Atlanta Revivals are ten to get in the door and ten to enter, just like this one is. Auburn usually travels to those because they’re only a little over an hour and a half away.

Anotak: At this point, I have no idea. I think we are saying the same thing on that after reading each others posts, so I don’t understand why this is escalating.

Raekw0n: Just to clarify, it says that it’s twenty for venue and one game, does the 50% pot come out of the total (venue and tournament fee) or just each tournament fee? Pretty sure people are misreading this and thinking that the organizers are keeping 40% of the tournament money plus all of the venue money, but I believe it’s just that there is a twenty dollar flat fee (instead of ten and ten) and fifty percent of that goes to the pot. So in reality, they are actually keeping less money than normal because of the portion donated to charity.

Am I right on this?

If I am, then I’ll be there with a MvC3 setup (Evo monitor, disk, and PS3 with all DLC characters).

I can bring a full setup for AE.

From what he told me it was 50% of your cost (the $20 you’re spending for venue and entry together) that is going to the pot. So basically, your entry fee ($10) is what goes into the pot and the pot has the standard payout.

I think this is right. We’re just used to hearing ten and ten instead of one single flat fee for entry and one game, so that got everybody confused.

Got a new avatar for you Nice1, check it out:

i was gonna make that my avatar but its over 50kb :frowning:

Eh, stupid .png file.

Jpeg here (smaller file, only about 37KB)

Save that and then upload it as your avatar so it doesn’t kill my Photobucket’s bandwidth.

Correct ,shit’s irrelevant now tho. Game entree is still the pot and the charity stuff is from the venue.

@mayor , correct
