Who is the “We” community??

The We community is GTSouth.com

Well all getting ready to step out of the office, You all have a wonderful Merry Christmas.

Jrawlinson:
When it says “played at 40+ lcd hdtvs” you realize most of those TVs probably have input lag. People in the fighting game community heavily prefer CRT tvs.

This.

If you insist on HDTVs, you’ll really want to invest in either this:

or this

Alienware OptX? AW2210 21.5 inch Full HD Monitor Product Details

and be sure to use HDMI.

Having fighting game tournaments on anything but those or CRTs WILL cause people to not come.

Minimal lag and non split screen is preferred for shooters as well, so if you guys are serious I would definitely consider changing format.

Not sure of the lag your talking about at my house we play on a 42inch,65inch, and led projector and I have not seen any lag at all. Yes we will be using HDMI cables on all TV’s. Could you link me something showing the lag, Not saying your wrong just not sure what you are talking about is all.

ok read up on the lag, the TV’s we have will not have that issue they are all 1080p ready. plus the HDMI and 120hz the game’s run fine. The lag came from TV’s that could only run 1080i and not 1080p. I thank you for letting me know, but the lag will not be an issue.

As for the split screen shooter that is only for a set number of matches, once we are down to a certain number we will then set people up on their own screens. Many other COD Tournaments do this the same way.

The problem with what your saying is that 85% of the games created now a days aren’t actually 1080p

But I REALLY hope you are sure and have actually TESTED the quality of your equipment, as a tournament organizer myself, I’ve fallen to my ego and pure ignorance because things were already set in place, i was too concerned with how much it would hurt my pockets blah blah blah.

There is a HUGE difference between casual play at home and TOURNAMENT play & tournament player vision.

There are things you couldn’t imagine seeing with your own eye but to a trained individual, in there favorite game yadda yadda, you’d be shocked and amazed.

Example, Madden on PS3 isn’t the “Tournament Standard” for a reason, especially on flat screens, they are often considered the most convenient, they look sexy and all but they cause offensive lurches (the offensive has a slower start up) the same glitches you would get from 360’s online Madden play…actually happen offline on PS3, Nano blitzes cause heavy lurch on certain flat screens etc.

I could make a big ole list but point is, you got 2 months + to sit down and figure it out, just beware, you got people paying to come to these events, expecting the organizers to have just as much if not MORE knowledge about the gaming, rules etc-etc on hand.
Some of us can get very cough vocal when it comes to our money being noobed out of our pockets

I’m sure a lot of you guys know about this already but there’s a tournament coming up in Atlanta

http://shoryuken.com/f7/atlanta-revival-reawakening-january-15th-2011-atlanta-ga-259100/

Raph you better fix your PS2 stick

We are looking at using led 40 inch TV’s, I have not found an issue with lag with any of the games we are using. Once Marvel VS Capcom comes out we will test this one as well. I can understand people getting upset if they feel they were noobed out of there money. I have no intent on that happening. Again I thank you all for your words of wisdom. I will make sure all games work and not have lag. If you can think of anything please let me know. I want this event to continue in this town cause it needs it.

Umm they, that’s the tournament we host bro lmao

Uh, I know, but you’re from Atlanta, and this is the Bama thread.

Just trying to get the word out.

I don’t think you understand what I was trying to say bro…

I am the tournament organizer for the tournament you posted…

You should read your thread (Bama thread) so you can keep up sir

cool, two tourneys I cant go to cause I play on 360 pad… fml

I know the pain. T_T

On the lag issue, basically put Guitar Hero or Rock Band in and calibrate it.

If it’s anything above 4 milliseconds (some are as high as 100) then it will annoy the hell out of a fighting game player.

Frames are around 8 milliseconds (Anotak will correct me on this if I’m wrong) and games have one frame links.

If you play on a CRT TV, what you input comes out on the screen as close to immediately as possible.

If you’re doing a one frame link and you have 50 milliseconds of input lag, you will drop it unless you compensate.

Since it’s impossible for every gamer to get used to every TV, we just use CRTs and monitors with no noticeable lag.

I will give that a try and so how it goes. Thank you for the advice.

So would a 2.4ms response time be ok?

White Christmas in Florence! Merry Christmas, everyone.

Merry Christmas Bama Thread and surrounding areas.

Liking this plethora of tourneys poppin up around the corner and everything. Sounds like the beginning of the year is goin to be exciting.

I seriously doubt that a 40 inch TV is getting 2 MS of input lag.

Perhaps Guitar Hero was a bad example (just trying to convey what input lag is), check this out.

That’s an example of input lag on a CRT (left) and a computer monitor (right). Computer monitors have some of the least lag of all LCD panels, and it’s still pretty noticeable. Essentially, if a monitor isn’t made and advertised to not have input lag, it has lag.

Both of the monitors I linked to have ~2ms of input lag, which is phenomenal for an HDTV.

Honestly though, it would be much easier and cost effective to invest in five or so CRT TVs (depending on tournament size) and not worry about lag at all.

Let me just stress once again that if you hold a fighting game tournament on larger HDTVs, most players will show up once and then never again.

Serious fighting game tournaments ONLY use extremely low input lag monitors or CRT TVs.

If you don’t mind me asking, what model are the TVs you are using?

frames are 16.6ms (1/60th of a second). Response time is not the same as input lag and the two are unrelated.
