Someone other than me and Derrell was at Fight Club last night from Bama? Amazing.
Raph, do you guys want to get some Bama players up, and I can get some GA players up and we can throw down at my place sometime in the next few weeks?
Incentive. Isaac is a better Sagat player than Marn. Come play him, learn that match, never lose to Sagat counter pick.
I should probably hit up Isacc too, I need help against Sagat. Tension Pulse tourney anyone? Don’t miss the hype =]

I’m interested.
But would the “allowed inputs” thing prevent me from mapping multiple inputs to the same button for Tekken? Like, for example, I have LP and RP mapped to the right bumper.
Yo Gump Town and Auburn, anyone lookin into getting in this? Haven’t been to a tourney in a good minute. Wold be nice to get some out of town matches in. Holla at me if you’re down for goin.
Sorry for not posting lately. I’ve been working my ass off for a Halloween store, but now that’s done with so I’m going to have a lot more free time. I’m planning on going back to having games at my house super often, so if anybody’s wanting to play, I’m available pretty much whenever at the moment. Just hit me up on my cell (PM if you need it).

I’m kind of a big deal.
Real talk Wes, I thought that costume was Blade…or a dominatrix victim (without gag). Goth general though? Baller.
I’m pretty sure it says you can’t do that. Anything that’s not in the default controller scheme is illegal.
I see no real competitive reason to have a rule like this. The only reason it would be here is to try to create an arcade-like experience in a console nation and that only hinders pad players and stick players who are used to defaults from BB or SF. I would rather everyone play to their full potential.
I’m not going to make another post telling you to play on stick so…
That’s just how it is. If the “powers that be” determine that pressing to buttons simultaneously is a skill (which to a remote extent I suppose it is) then they’ll also expect you to have that skill, rather than macro. And if all you wanted was to press 1+2 then you may want to adjust your fingers slightly whenever the occasion presents itself. This was one of the main reasons I switched to stick: pressing to inconveniently placed buttons on a ps1 pad is tough and macros usually aren’t legal (at least not in the games I play). Funny how switching to joystick had a bigger impact on buttons than the actual joystick.
because it is fucking retarded to be able to do lariat with 1 button on sf4 or st, it is fucking retarded to have one button dash on marvel, it is fucking retarded to have 1 button access to certain moves on tekken
it makes doing certain things on reaction insanely easy that were designed around the limitation of having to press however many buttons
old post from vanilla sf4 i’m going to repaste
edit: i would like to point out that i am a PAD PLAYER in tekken 6, and a stick player in every other game. I play bryan fury and I do taunt setups all the time with him just fine.
i would also like to point out that on tekken 6 the best players in atlanta all pretty much play on pad and the south is the best in the country at tekken imo
Haha, thanks. You have no idea how many people were guessing my costume incorrectly. Over the 4 or so days I wore it, people asked if I was:
- A dominatrix
- Neo from the Matrix
- Morpheus from the Matrix (lolwut)
- The robot dude from Grandma’s Boy
- A Nazi
- A *neo-*Nazi
- A member of the Gestapo
- An enforcer of the New World Order
- Pinhead
- One of the guys from Dark City (Old movie with Keifer Sutherland, for those who don’t know. Bonus points to the guy who said this for the obscure reference)
Only one person said Marilyn Manson, which was close enough. I wasn’t dressing as him directly, but instead going for the gothic style he’s worn in the past. I hate dressing as specific characters (Michael Myers, Jason, etc) but still wanted to wear something dark and in the spirit of Halloween. Overall, I got a really positive response from it, and I heard several compliments from many customers/coworkers.
Man, I love Halloween. Just talking about this stuff makes me eager for next year.
Wow, I always thought macros weren’t allowed for arcade authenticity. I never used macros on pad or stick so I suppose I’m unaffected either way, but it’s neat to know the logic behind banning them. Thanks for the insightful post.
I still disagree with this logic. All you’re doing is endorsing retarded annoyances than actually limiting… I don’t know… cheating? What would you call people that map? I don’t think convenience with button inputs is overpowered or anything. It allows a person to more effectively rely on judgments and reflexes and options.
Why would you want to add some kind of element that only serves to hinder people for no real justifiable reason other than to create an artificial skill gap? “Oh, he screwed because he wasn’t good enough,” no, he screwed up because of something stupid that can easily be avoided.
I’ve argued about this kind of stuff before with the context of L-canceling and I’m not one to be swayed on this subject. I just wanted to see peoples’ reasoning and I don’t approve.
this isn’t L-cancelling
L-cancelling is just an extra execution tax, this is decidedly different. did you even read the post that i pasted? the problem with l-cancelling is that there is not a single situation in which you could l-cancel and it would a better choice to not do so.
3x buttons on sf games make it much easier to react with certain moves that are limited by the fact that you have to react and adjust your hands. the time to execute a 3 button or 2 button move will be significantly faster for someone who is ready to do so than someone who is ready to do something else. If you reduce the requirement to 1 button then the amount of time required to react is lessened.
THIS HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH EXECUTION REQUIREMENTS, THIS HAS TO DO WITH BEING READY TO DO SOMETHING AKA MINDGAMES
but i guess smash players don’t know about anything other than execution
I don’t like arguing via forums so I’m just going to leave it at this:
While your argument may be sound, I will respectfully disagree.
hmm…I think I can see what Raph/Tom are saying.
Jay, imagine if there was a raging demon button (in a game where it’s actually 1-0 frames; not SF4). We can all agree to disagree but I think the general principle is that although not the end-all be-all, execution IS some sort of skill. I think we’ve all seen the case of the player who had little else in his arsenal get bodied vs. a more fundamentally sound opponent but the point still stands. In fact, if macros are allowed for lariats, why not everything? Why not just macro a button for Jedah’s dash fierce infinite in VS netplay if execution is an artificial barrier? Given Raph’s example if you’ll macro 3k is there really any reason why you wouldn’t allow a macro of say…13f ewgf in tekken?
—Not trying to be a dick here or anything.
EDIT: it took me a lot longer to type that than I realized. I didn’t catch the last post before I pressed submit…
lol, it’s alright and I actually thought of that while typing, but I didn’t really want to post it.
I agree that execution is skill, but I think the context of execution barriers is important.
…Raging Demon was frame 1 in 3S? Sorry, I don’t keep up with that game enough. Another question that’s been eating at me is if MSP is the strongest team in MvC2. It’s all I ever see in streams.
