WTF is an Asterix?
Dunno if this should be in here or the Comic Books thread, but anyway I’ve been reading some of the books and they rock, the comedy is light-hearted but can give a lot of laughs. My fav. character yet is still Obelix (These insert civilization are crazy).
For those wondering there have been 2 live action films and below’s a list of the animated movies made-
Asterix is one of my favourite comic series ever. I’ve read every single one of them multiple times, including the stupid adventure all text ones (they sucked). The Twelve Tasks was good though.
My favourites in no particular order would be Asterix and the Black Gold, Asterix the Gaul, Asterix and Caear’s Gift, and Asterix and the Big Fight (was that the one where all the Roman camps attack them at once, and they had that hilarious giant illustration of the fight ? 
)
First I heard of Asterix was the Genesis game, which was HARD. I ddin’t find out it was a comic until much later when I saw an English version at a bookstore. Also IIRC, they’re "Gaul"s, as in ancient French basically.
Oh, The Big Fight is another one completely… but still very good. Thinking about it, my favourite would have to be Asterix and the Banquet.
Which is the one I was thinking about before, where they’re attacked by all the camps at once?
I’ve read most of the Asterix comics at least once, and like pretty much all of them. They’re great light reading.
I particularly like Asterix and the Olympic Games, Asterix and the Big Fight, and Asterix and the Goths (mainly because I read those the most as a kid).
All the camps…I can’t remember what it was, but I remember it had like a full page drawing of just how screwed up the battle was, complete with like labels to show what’s going on. I’m looking through wiki (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Asterix_volumes) to see which issue it might be, and I’m thinking it’s Asterix and the Roman Agent, but that’s just a guess.
Yep, you’re right, that’s the one. The guy makes everyone hate everyone else.
Asterix rocks, except nowadays. I love all the ones that were written by Goscinny, but Uderzo just can’t do it. He’s an excellent artist, but he should leave the writing to someone else imo.
The last one I saw had aliens attacking the village with like, some superman character (I’m not making this up!!!). All the new characters looked out of place too, completely different style than the regulars.
But enough pessimism. I think my favorite one would have to be… either Asterix and the Vikings, or the one were they join the foreign legion. I don’t know what it’s called, 'cause I read it all in Dutch. The Egyptian with his nose jokes is just too good.
When I was a kid I always thought Obelix was so much cooler than Asterix that, in my mind, I treated him like the main character. And since the title of the comic was Asterix, I assumed Obelix was actually called Asterix. (This was at an age when reading wasn’t as important as looking at the pictures yet)
Now that I think of it, I did the same with Teddy Ruxpin. I hated that bland, uninteresting bear, but thought that caterpillar thing was so cool, I thought his name was Teddy Ruxpin.
Finished reading and the Magic Carpet last night, the crazy shit Asterix and Obelix did til they reached Whatshisnehm’s country were hilarious. It lacked some ass kicking though, still it was fun.
