Hope this all goes through Lyle and we see this arcade soon. I’ll be there.
fuck your couch
how old were you when you started playing video games? there are underage people who deserve to game with us. i know one guy who was joining tournies and kicking ass since he was a highschool sophmore. plus the arcade would be limiting it’s revenue if it made this an adult only arcade. if you guys truly can’t stand people under 18, than maybe we can have a curfew. I know Dave & Busters kicks out everyone under 21 after a certain hour.
a card system would elimiate the need for a change machine and also allow you to set the game at 15 cents or 40 cent or whatever non-quarter value you believe a game is worth. The card system works for Dave & Buster. I remember one game costing me like 34 cents. Weird number…
that makes sense, but he could also charge people to go into the console area. like maybe $5 an hour or something. that would be good for newbs who want “some” competition, but aren’t good enough to face us yet.
you will need to hire security for that room though, because there are a lot of shady people out there who WILL steal from you. maybe you can do an arcade/game rental store. i dunno, i’m just throwing ideas out.
the kids can still go mgl to play DDR, and PARA PARA YEAH!!! (anthony)
is there a lot of fighters under 18 these days. I can only think of 4 or 5 that plays on a regular basis.
One of them walking demons me too
By kids I mean people who play whack-a-mole to get enough tickets for a plastic car.
dfdjlakfdafjldfdjlaljfjlfdjlajlkgg :looney:.
While Huy is right about there being a few kids that play (and one of them walking demons Rom too ), that number could definitely rise once the arcade is up and going.
Have you thought of getting recording equipment? I’m sure that would be awesome for our fun and for the community. Money matches, tournies, etc. Putting out vids might also get more people to want to come?
if those kids get into “fighters” most kids like racing games, or home console stuff, but I could be wrong, I am old.
NO YOU.
jk.
On a serious note, the idea of acquiring recording equipment has been brought up, and is definitely in the consideration of happening. And vids would definitely be plus to our community. However, we will take this one phase at a time. And once we reach that phase, it will be more closely covered and discussed with you all.
I appreciate your idea, and that you expressed the idea. I would also like to hear more of them from the rest of you folks from the community in the case that we haven’t thought of it yet.
Anyhow, thanks for the support, and we will continue to update everybody as we are continuously working on this project.
No golf course, whatsoever, wastes too much everything. A quiet room would be nice, like a chill room, i’ve remembered too many times being in MGL and wanting to tune out the noise, then i’d go to ticket land and my head would explode. You should hire the cute girl that works at shabu shabu for the ramen part, but not the one with the sports glasses. How about windex near by so we can clean the machines every so often? too many times i’ve played using someone else’s greasy buttons…
open a nickel arcade up there lol all we do is pay 1.95 to get in… and then everything is no higher than 15 cents …
what? you calling me a kid?! :annoy:
during the summer a group of kids from milipitas (possibly high school freshmens) came to SJSU. they were in some kind of summer math camp program. for lunch, the majority of them would go into the bowling center for, bowling, ping pong, pool, and of course the arcade. there was a decent crowd on the Guilty Gear XX machine, most likely because of the anime looking graphics. there was also a smaller crowd on Tekken 5, which was the newest game at the time. there were only a few kids MvC2 and CvS2, but hardly anyone touched 3S. i guess 3S was a little too old skool for them.
i was owning them all in every game except for MvC2, where there was this 1 kid who actually knew what he was doing. the match started and he immediately did a cross-over and combo’ed into it. i was like, “wtf?! this kid knows what he’s doing… shit! he’s dong it again!”
anyway, i think any kid can potientially become a fighting game fan, they just get intiminated too easily when experienced players go all crazy rushdown and perfect them within 15 seconds, which is why i think a console room would work out. find a why to lock the tv, console, and joystick down into the table and charge like $5 for a hour play in that room. newbs can use this room to pick up the basics, until they get confident enough for the arcade machine where the real competition is gonna be. this room would also be great for smash brothers and halo fans.
oh, and before you buy any furniture from a store, check out www.craigslist.org . people are always giving away free stuff on craigslist.org or selling it for a lot cheaper than retail price. chairs, crt monitors, and dirt are the 3 items most given away free.
i always wondered how nickle city makes it’s money, because you still gonna pay the employees at least min wage. i don’t think $2 & a bunch of nickles would cover it, because i’m sure you still got a lot of bills to pay every month.
$?
UGH
No $
i hate cards, am i the only one?
nope
u know with the card system, anyone can easily screw you over, by holding a magnet over your card. so u can get into some trivial argument with some random guy you don’t know, tell the guy to fuck off, then he gets all offended because you used the f-word, than the next thing you know, your card doesn’t work anymore.
you aren’t. I say nay for cards too.
Cuz even though most of the players are gonna be regulars, there are going to be lots of scrubs, passerbyers, soCal people who come too.
They aren’t gonna want to get a card, charge it, play, go home, leave the card in a pile of junk and forget where the hell it went off to.
Actually what’s cool about the card system is that even if a card gets demag-ed due to a magnet, the card being overused, etc. Most card systems have reciepts for the card or the id# is on the card itself; so everything can be retraced from points left, games played, purchase history, etc.
There are a lot of advantages to a card system. The disadvantages are few but can cause major headaches at times.
Refering to not letting kids play, it may hurt in the long run. There’s a need to encourage new gamers or else the arcade will just die out eventually when the older generation fades away from the scene.
Plus how many ppl really started playing after they were 18? Some of the top players were really young when they were extremely good. Daigo was in his mid teens I think when he got into the Street Fighter spotlight, Justin Wong was about 15/16yrs old when he got his first Marvel title at Evo, Gene Wong is still only 15 and placed 7th this year in CvS2. This is just to name a few. So definitely the more the merrier imo. It can only help.
exactly, the arcade industry and the fighting game genre needs all of the fresh blood that it can get. besides, those newbs are good parry practice.
