I started a new thread in the Newbie forums as part of my mission to get new players posting video so the people trying to help them can give them actual specific advice instead of vague overused phrases like “don’t jump”, anyway the first video is a Ryu vid and I figured this would be the best place to find people used to breaking down ryu gameplay videos. If even a few of you could give it a look and post a critique in the thread it would go a long way towards getting more new player to start posting.
Also if any of you could check in on the thread every once in a while that would be great. Ryu will probably come up alot since the people posting are all newer players and alot of them flock towards shotos
Thanks.
Im also encountering a lot of good Goukens lately. Hate that air armour move he has, you cant zone him out properly.
Also Ive been hit so many times by the ex-tatsu he has… I even know he’s going to do it and bait it by empty jumping… but he even hits you during an empty jump. They all do the focus dash forward grab, into dive kick throw mixup.
What I get hit by more often is if the they cancel into EX Focus Attack. I usually end up getting crumpled because I pressed a button and then they get a free Ultra.
This is my opinion in response to your post

[]I don’t think that Gouken having an air armour move is that much of a problem, Ryu can always make use of light tatsu if you see it coming from the right distance. also remember that reversal specials are armour breakers in case of resets
[]ex tatsu is pretty fast on startup so you have to be more on point with your jump ins.
[]when you notice that a character is trying FADC grab pressure fell free to jab them or ex tatsu
[]about dive kick throw mixups I will suggest you watch your opponent and take the path of least damage.

I hope that answers your questions
It’s a pretty well-known glitch. It doesn’t happen that often any more without a proper setup. This moment @ 9m35s is what made this famous:

Not video as such but…
Training mode. Pick whatever char P1, Ryu P2. Record and make Ryu-dummy throw hadouken, shoryuken. Try to jump in and see at what distances the dummy can’t srk your jump-ins. Those are the basic scary distances where you don’t want to throw fireballs.
The mindgames Ryu has to offer really click well with me. I can’t wait to play him at a higher level because I’m having so much fun already! He’s also teaching me stick for the first time… hadoukens and shoryus are actually really hard for me to get 100% of the time since I’ve played just Vega a charge character since 2010. I know how to block really well so I’m sure it will help! I’m really scared to press cr.HP or buttons when I react to a jump-in late haha, since Vega can;t do much : )
All of the input tricks you have to learn to do things like hit-confirm crouch moves into specials that have a crouch component is interesting. I keep FADC’ing crouching LP instead of SRK haha.
