"The answer lies in the heart of battle." Ryu Video Thread

most good dudley’s will not do unsafe machingun blow so don’t even try to punish. the jab and strong version aren’t too easy to distinguish (at least for me), and if they block your srk, say goodbye to at least ~30% life.

jabs will beat any ducking if it’s done close enough so use that vs ones who ducks a lot.

watch out for overhead cause i can’t block it online on reaction for the life of me, so i normally just give up lows on wakeup in most cases.

don’t throw fireballs, and just be super patient. dudley has no way to win other than by trying to get in, and with good c.forwards and dp’s, and well-timed jabs, i think this is a hugely favored match for ryu.

A very basic video which explain how to perform a shoryuken.

I do agree that it may be obvious for most of you. I think i ll make a video about shoryu cancels later.
If you have any commentary about the shoryuken video, i’d be glad to read them.

Not sure if this has been posted before, but here’s Daigo’s Ryu vs Gief:

Really good video, loved how you got the joystick to show up on screen. The :df::d::df: and :d::df::db: for anti-cross up dp are the ones I use all the time.

Crossup dp?

damn, i didn’t know that shortcut for auto-correct dp. I always just mashed dp the other way. I’m gonna use this instead.

He probably means anticrossup/auto-correct DP.

I’m pretty sure the directional inputs don’t matter (ie: you can buffer the dp before wakeup) and it’s all about when you press the punch button (ie: press it the same frame or just before your opponent hits you, so you start your invincibility on wakeup).

yes it matters, if the enemy does a late crossup jump your buffer wont last enough.

Late cross up = trying to cross you up after you wake up? DP him before he crosses you then. Or still buffer before he hits you.

Ryu mid-screen cross-up tatsu to U1.

Was stuffing around with my mate online. He’s kind of scrubby so I’ll say that he definitely have no intention of pulling this off. Nevertheless I was shocked when he pulled it off, as I’ve never seen it before.
Checked input data and the tatsu definitely cross’s up as I was blocking back.

Managed to pull it off after 5 or-so attempts in training room but I can’t see it being super effective/practical in an actual match, unless you have crazy hit confirm or practise the hell out of it.

Anyways, thought it’d be cool to share.
Cheers

Can you try that with Ultra 2?

That was very useful. Thank you.

Hello Ryu forum, how are you today? swell, I was able to recently get some of my matches streamed at a casuals get together a few days ago. I am not normally able to capture footage of myself with my setup, but I was able to get some of my gameplay recorded.

I recorded about 25~ or so sets of gameplay with ryu, my channel is http://www.youtube.com/user/TheSheruff .

As with any Critique my Ryu post, any comments or criticisms are welcome. I realize a lot of people will say I play really random and strange, but I feel playing this way is much more fun in casuals. I can zone well enough, but I prefer a more aggressive style all around.

edit: In an effort to make it a bit easier to sift through all my vids I choose to highlight some of my favorite matches:

me vs. Booker(dic)-

Me vs. D.fox(sim)-

And the whole set vs. JT(box) was pretty good

^ can’t really give good advice based on those videos since you mostly won your matches… but generally I’d say your pressure game is good, and so is your zoning. Except holy crap random dp/tatsus every 5 seconds. It’d be nice to see your opponents punish you severely for each one but the biggest punish I saw was cr.LK xx scissors kick from Dictator… and damn that Dictator was missing links everywhere (especially 2 frame links) letting your random dps pwn him. It looks like anytime you get pressured, or anytime your opponent has a frame advantage, there’s a 50% chance of seeing you reversal dp the first chance you get. And anytime you’re far from the screen (just about outside cr.HK range or farther) there’s a 50% chance of seeing you random hk.tatsu. It looked like luck from these opponents, but let’s see how you do against better players. Again your pressure game looked good, but mostly because these opponents didn’t know how to simply block, or they wanted to backdash vs your random tatsus.

playing makoto is making me jump too much with ryu lol x.x

Hey guys, total street fighter 4 scrub here. I uploaded 4 random ranked matches, and would love some feedback on how to improve my ryu game. I apologize for the poor picture quality, I lack a capture card.

Thanks ahead of time for any tips!

Please post losing matches for better advice. If you win, then your opponent didn’t do a very good job of capitalizing on your mistakes.

Ok so. No offense dude but you are clearly a flowchart Ryu.

 1. no use of BnB’s, nevermind any thing that resembles a nonrandom combo; to tack onto this, I also saw pathetic punishes after whiffed Ibuki’s moves and focus crumples
 2. very reversal happy
 3. very jump happy, and Ryu has one of the best ground games in the game
 4. you don’t seem to like to block, just jump around and reversal
 5. you mindlessly burn meter for no apparent reason (ie: what were all those EX dp’s for??)
 6. zoning game nonexistant; poor antiairing
 7. little pressure game; you get a knockdown but you don’t really do anything except hado on your opponent’s wakeup
 8. falling for FA trap on wakeup; reversal moves gain armor breaking, so this is the time to do reversal dps. Otherwise, just backdash, and then follow up with pressure.
 9. way way too much unsafe dp’s
 10. poor knowledge of Ryu’s matchups

tl,dr: You basically play a flowchart Ryu. Get practicing.
