Thats because Daigo doesn’t have a good ground game. Thats what Ed Ma and Justin Wong were saying in Gooteck’s podcast. I think he just throws a bunch of fireballs and gets really lucky with random ass dps.
:wtf:
that would be the ex tatsu glitch.
and i highly doubt daigo throws random ass dps only scrubs do that lol
Yup.
Dumbest shit I’ve seen posted on these boards.
They added some vids to the playlist posted earlier.
Daigo vs Eita (Go) and Rikuson (Sa), you can see those here :
http://www.youtube.com/user/sf4db
Plus you got some matches of the Chiba cup with Haneyama, Fuudo, FZ, Curry Mama, AC Revenger, Aloha, PPN, etc…
@ the first match versus Rikuson, that’s call rape.
Wow. Just wow.
wait… wait… wait… WHAT? Justin said that about Daigo?.. and… uhhhh… Daigo gets luck with ‘radom ass DP’s?’ … seriously, you are joking, right?
It’s pretty much unanimous among the american top players, I remember Wong, Edma, Gootecks and I think maybe Combofiend saying his footsies/fireball game was good, but not as good as say John Choi.
I don’t think he gets lucky with either SRKs or fireballs, that’s just retarded to say. Someone who does as consistantly well as Daigo does is not hoping for random fireballs and SRKs to land. I think there definitely is a nostalga around Daigo and that messes with people. I personally haven’t seen enough of Choi to really say but I would say that more often than Daigo does, Choi likes to zone with fireballs. Daigo just walks at you, he’s gunna do something, and it WILL work because he’s fuckin Daigo.
Don’t hate on the guy. To say that Daigo throws random is wrong, I agree. But this WAS said. www.gootecks.com Edma Pod cast, Justin Wong pod cast and the Combofiend/Dogface/Ian Cofino Podcast. Not posative if Combofiend said this but wong and edma did for sure. I do know that Justin also said he hadn’t used Balrog since a tournament I believe in June (the SBO quals in Europe I think???) and picked him based on feeling he could out footsies Daigo. If you look at the match, you can see their are a few things Justin didnt use simply because he forgot that Balrog was capable of doing them based on having not used him as of late.
I personally think that Daigo’s ground game is pretty good. Now is it as good as Edma’s, Justin’s, or Choi’s? No, it’s not. I’ve personally played Edma quite a bit and can say that he has probably the best footsies I’ve ever fought against. John Choi’s zoning is proof in the pudding when you watch his videos. Justin’s footsies were proof to based off of his Abel and Balrog display at Evo.
But point of the matter is that Daigo doesn’t win through JUST footsies or zoning. He plays CALCULATED and VERY smart. He feeds off of your bad habit and makes you pay for it. Look at how he was wrecking that Bison player because Bison was trying to throw off of his block stun…he ate…what 5 Ex tatsu’s in the set? Not only that but after he’d eat an ex tatsu, he just throw. Basically, Daigo took advantage of the fact that the bison player didn’t know how to tech throws without the block stun trick. And the point of the matter to that statement, is that he’s an all around SOLID player who plays smart, calculated and very clutch.
To say that he has “bad” footsies is a bit of an overstatement in my opinion. I don’t believe that Daigo has AMAZING zoning…I think that remains in John Choi’s hands for now. However you have to understand that Daigo also doesn’t just play footsies. You see this guy pressure in matches and press momentum as well…zoning is just part of the game, and though it’s a big part, Daigo puts his eggs in another basket…playing calculated and adaptation…not zoning.
EDIT: Through the videos that have come out during the summer, it’s also quite obvious that Daigo isn’t as comfortable with some matches as much as he’d like to be. Balrog, Viper, Blanka being some of them. Put him against a Sagat, another Ryu, Bison…most of the cast, he’s VERY comfortable with matchups and he is beast status. However there are a few that are still not cracked yet in Daigo’s eyes…He doesn’t know how to win against a Balrog yet (obvious as to how he fought Justin and Maeda Taison)…nor does he know how to win against a Viper very well (did you SEE Marn win 4 in a row? Oh and what happened at God’s Garden?)…Anyways, cut the kid some slack, he’s a human too, and his godly’ness is only a figment of your own perception.
How the hell are you SUPPOSED to fight Rufus? From afar? That doesn’t get you ANYTHING. I laugh at the fact that everyone thinks this match is Farris Bueler’s day off or something…as if Ryu just skates through this match. People say “Ryu’s hadouken’s keep Rufus out all day.” When it’s like…think about the vitality and damage output…Rufus doesn’t NEED to get in on you as much as you need to get in on him. Oh and when you do? Here comes an ex messiah or random snake strike to reset the pace of the match.
This match is (imo) 5.5 - 4.5 in Ryu’s favor. Ground game doesn’t really work on Rufus because of the fact that he’s either pressuring you, or away from you. So…how do you expect to see amazing ground game? It’s a momentum matchup, not a zoning matchup like Sagat. And lol at the whole “playing dumb at times.” To the untrained eye I can understand why you’d think that. I personally saw it as calculated risk. There’s a reason why top players jump, and it’s not just off of a hope like 95% of players.
Mickey, it’s funny u say that about ed ma cuz that’s considered his weakness.
refusal to play the other guys game. Hence the reason why Justin says he is difficult to read. He’s a stubborn person this Daigo.
In my opinion, I think Daigo plays the Boxer, Viper, and Blanka matchups the way they’re supposed to be played. You have to take into account the who’s playing with those characters (Marn is beast with Viper, Taison is JP’s best Boxer, Mizoteru is gay, etc.); you also have to take into account how Viper, Boxer, Blanka have a TON of anti-fireball/DP strategies and how Ryu has to outplay them to get the win. Unless something is discovered that makes these matchups in Ryu’s favor, I think you’re always going to see Daigo have trouble against Viper, Boxer, and Blanka players that are on his level.
Youre saying that Blanka has a TON of options against DP?.. ummmmm… like what? And how is thematch in Blanka’s favour? I agree that Viper and Boxer have a shit load of options - actually, I still think the Rog match is in Rog’s favour, but Blanka?.. c.mp beats 90% of his options.
viper is 5-5 boxer is 5-5 blanka is 6-4(Ryus favor)
blank doesnt have ton of options that beat out DP maybe the ex rainbow bals if it is crossed up correct, but thats only if he doesnt try to dp, and decides to block it and then dp your ass. so idk where u got your info from or thought of this opinion.
Yeah and then Daigo beat Marn 5-0. God’s Garden? He barely lost a couple matches to the best Viper in the world. Uryo can beat anybody in the world (except maybe Itabashi Zangief because that matchup is retarded as hell). Why does it have to be because he just hasn’t figured something out. Maybe it’s because he knows the matchup but Uryo just played better that day?
which ever you decide, Daigo is still a force to be concerned with at any Street Fighter 4 related tournament, on a good or a bad day.
Personally, I think Viper actually has a slight advantage over Ryu - 5.5-4.5… I know she has less health, but she has SOOOOO many options its unreal, and her ability to counter relatively safely with the flame kick completely nullifies a lot of Ryu’s options… surely that gives her a bit of an advantage? Oh, and then here the fact that her ultra is even easier to land than ryu’s…
as for Rog… meh… still not decided on that. In theory, I understand why it’s 5-5, but it never feels like it. Summing up the pros and cons
PROS
- Ryu can zone TO AN EXTENT
- Rog has shit wake-up options.
CONS
- Rog pokes = insane
2)Rog has more health and more damage - Corner death trap
Personally,I think Rogs pokes and hit dmg/health give him a minor advantage. Maybe the Rogs see it differently though.
I don’t think Viper has any advantage over Ryu. Her moves have really low priority. Her flame kick gets beat by standing jabs or focus. A good Ryu who really knows the match is very tough for Viper, but not in anyones favor, it’s 5-5. Also I wouldn’t say her ultra is easier to land. She has way more ways to land it, but they aren’t easy. With Ryu all you have to do is hit confirm some jabs and then srk, fadc, ultra which is pretty easy to do.
