One thing I try and keep in mind when fighting sim is to keep my defense really high from mid-full screen. Sim can keep you out all day, but as far as big damage, he’s like any other character. He’s gotta get right next to you. I just keep some good fireball pressure on them and watch for a spot to get in, but if I don’t find one and they’re not killing me from full screen, eventually they’ll try and teleport or do some slides to close the distance for a bnb or ultra/super setup.
Also, that halfway to sim range Paul is talking about, is a good spot to use some focus attacks. It’s hard to hit him from here, but as you see in that vid, the sim will throw that far fierce punch and try and push you farther away. If you absorb one and dash forward, you’re in.
You need to srk happy jumpers, really, and I talking about fierce srk here so they forgot about being airbone…
Don’t hesitate to build meter with a lk tatsu on knockdowns, it also fucks up there horizontal charge so the only option left headbutt. Which is mi/hi invincible with a huge 6 frames startup, be carefull with the ex version tho.
You can use backdash on wake up from time to time if they stay at their sweep’s max range distance.
Work on combos off the Solar plexus, you don’t want to miss that so often
Use your footsies, it will stuff most of their dash, on ex version and on reaction you can to cr.mk canceled into srk
If you have to use an ex bar in a combo use it for a ex tatsu if they are close enough.
About the vs Rufus.
You can get close and poke with cr.lk > cr.lp > cr.lp when they don’t have meter.
Stay on the ground! Seriously you jump too much.
After lv2 focus attack, you have a +2 frame advantage, I’d suggest you go for a string combo starting with cr.lk
If you land two cr.lp you must link it into something, either srk or cr.hp > tatsu
Try lp srk their dive kick, don’t wait until they are on the ground to do the reversal it’s 1/2 and one of them feature a lot of hp to be gone. If you are afraid about throws you can try to backdash out of it.
You can use more fireball in this match up imo, meaties on wake up will be safe if they reversal messiah kick and otherwise keep the pressure on. Spacing in this match is a strong asset, you need to close the distance and use cr.mk into fb more.
Your srk > exfc got blocked twice, make it happen instead of hoping for it to connect.
You got a good spacing, but you need to SRK more when they jump at you. (Also I think the timing for AA clean Shoryu > EXFC > Ultra is kinda weird or different from the grounded version, but you sort of keep the focus going for a split second before dashing if that helps). You can throw more Hadouken from certain distances to keep the pressure.
You can finish your combos by something else than Hadouken
Don’t jump at Honda too much, a good honda will Dosukoi you everytime especially if he got the meter.
When you get hit by that j.hp try to backdash if they like to follow up with the command throw.
You can wait a bit more for your AA shoryuken, the way you do it is not efficient enough (you are getting 70 dmg instead of 160).
When Honda is in the corner you don’t want to let him out of there.
Part 2&3.
Nice move closing the gap when he gets the Ultra
Maybe you could use cr.lp > cr.mp sometimes, gives you the opportunity to follow up with quite a few things.
cr.lp > cr.lp > cr.hp > Tatsu is also a very good way to confirm.
Yes you can SRK abel on wake up when he don’t have hp and meter left. The roll is not invisible until the 5th frame.
Use backdash more (vs Abel).
If you happen to connect a jumping heavy attack on Sagat, go for cr.mk > tatsu after that, or SRK (then Ultra if you have it)
-You don’t jump on the red cyclone.
-You don’t use tatsu unless it’s in a combo.
-You don’t use ex shoryuken unless you want to counter a move you can’t affrord to be hit with.
-You can throw fireballs on Zangief, you won’t do it at certain distances and when he gets up with meter, but you can poke with cr.mk into fireball.
-You certainly don’t want to burn meter for ex fireball against Zangief and saving it for super, ex tatsu, exfc.
-You don’t dash after a Focus (guard hit) on Zangief.
-You don’t stay near Zangief on wake up, unless he’s SPD happy and you want to bait that. But seriously you don’t want to do that.
-Don’t get predictable with your fireballs.
-AA lp srk > into ex Fireball is bullshit, this is 170 dmg while a clean hp srk is 160 with no meter.
-You can link Ultra on a traded SRK (2 match first round)
-You don’t do random SRK.
-Forget about Focus Attack in this match.
-Learn to reverse SRK ( :db::qcf: on p1 side on late cross ups)
Once again didnt know where to post. Ppl started posting their own videos here but it seems the ojective of the thread was for top world Ryu’s but, anyway…
We had a City vs City local Showdown here and i’d like to share some matches. Since most of the players weren’t that good, i played a little more conservative trying to avoid random ultras and supers that they like to throw and i was also waiting for them to kill themselves with jump-ins and this kind of stuff. They’re still pretty new to the game. Please, any tips, besides execution mistakes, will be much appreciated. I made a playlist of the 8 matches I had that day.
I love the cr.lp x3 > sweep ahah. Your Ryu is pretty decent, some stuffs I can suggest tho :
-You need to dp more (you do it sometimes, but too early, you gotta want a little for a clean hit) and relay more on ex tatsu rather than ex fireballs.
-Use some backdash sometimes.
-In part 17 since you play Ryu you should have seen that would not connect, tech that shit and finish him off ( I think one should always tech no matter what, just in case of) :smokin:
-Hado trap is ineffective at fullscreen unless you have the super, so don’t hesitate to close the gap is necessary.
-Try to confirm more of your jabs into bigger combos. (e.g cr.lp > cr.hp > tatsu or cr.lp > cr.lp > SRK), also when punishing use heavies when you can, especially after a focus.
-SRK more, seriously, as a Ryu player your uf corner should be full of dust ( and theirs too ) but your df one you be crystal clean
-SRK beat random tatsu all day, if they are going over you then reverse SRK
-Ah and when they are in the corner there is a distance where you can spam like hell and SRK if they jump in.
You only lost one round in all those matches gratz!
Shimuza, thank you so much for the tips.
Some of them are really useful, specially about using more EX TATSU’s I almost never use them.
Also, sometimes i just can put out that DP so full of win, that’s why i lose sometimes.
About the hadou full screen, i was just filling my super. But I shouldnt have used to much against Gouken. Is just that, the gouken player, mashes stuff randomly a lot, so i was kind of afraid of getting close and eating random stuff.
I still cant put a DP inside a tatsu, gotta learn that.
Thanks a lot for the comments.
Anyone else, please ?
