"The answer lies in the heart of battle." Ryu Video Thread

About the Dictator match-up.

I think you should take a little distance in the fight. Not all the time but few times in a match. Try Real defensive play at times. Stay out of Scissor Kick range and throw fireballs, Dictator can’t do a thing that could “hurt” you from that range. At this range the only thing he can do to damage is devil reverse and headstomp but these are what you should be baiting. His jump is so floaty that it isn’t very safe. And at max distance it is very easy to just stalemate the fight. You can chip damage/build meter Dictator pretty easily and it is going to irritate the other player, even more if you have the lead.

You got the skillz, just build up a totally different gameplan (defensive) that you can throw out in the middle of the fight.

your from canada BC?

Friends going at it.

hey me 2, you play at metrotown arcade?

Here are two vids of me that were streamed by FADC during the BattleField Arcadia #3 Tournament in Brooklyn, NY this past Saturday:

Match 1: Ben Fong (Balrog) vs BizziB (Ryu)

Match 2: KDZ (Rufus) vs BizziB (Ryu)

I played like total shit against the Rufus player. I was sitting on 1P side even though I was 2P in the match and certain times I was looking at the wrong Super Meter thinking KDZ didn’t have bar for EX Messiah but in reality I was looking at mine and ate too many because of this which normally I would bait better. I won my last match sitting on the wrong side so I stayed for good luck, but now looking back that was a seriously dumb thing to do. Regardless, I deserved to lose after seeing how many whiffed light DP’s I attempted going for reversals, shit was awful and definitely had my nerves rattled amidst the spotlight.

I only watched the first match. Youre okay, nice execution… its hard to say a lot really cause that Gat was a total fucking scrub. I would suggest you be a bit more cautious and patient when it comes to working your way in though, cause decent players are gonna punish you for being too aggressive (the Gat could have ultrad you after he hit an EX, for example, only he was a scrub). Oh yeah, and you keep quiting youre combos to get a throw. Even from SPS, you go to jab then stop… seriously… why would you do that? Just complete the combo.

Yes I do, I tend to go most week days around 4:00-4:15 on my lunch break from work and sometimes before work from 11:00am-12:00am and again sometimes after work around 8:30pm

About the grand finals video :

1) You need to dp everytime their feet leave the ground.

2) Sometimes you make choices that don’t make sense :

@ 03:57 : You hop over for some reason (leaving him enough time to recover) and use two bars for nothing, in that case just go for the most simple and damaging combo

@ 06:46 : You hit him with FA Level 2 and go for a just frame instead of Ultra or dp > exfc > Ultra.

3) Stop using you meter so much for ex fireballs, keep for super, ex tatsu, exfc.

4) This guy seems to have a shortcut for Focus Attack, you need to punish this as well, especially against Sagat (since his backdash is slow as hell), do either :

A solar plexus the second it while break the armor with counter advantage, then you can try cr.mp/cr.hp > dp/tatsu. I think if they backdash then only the second hit will connect but it will be safe.

A tatsu, wins everytime, beats back/frontdash and the Focus Attack itself.

A cr.mk into lp dp, beats the focus and frontdash, if they backdash it’s safe.

5) For a finisher, you can use hp dp up close if they don’t have meter, the Ultra will whiff if they use it on wake up.

**6) **Sometimes you’ll hit with a cr.lp/cr.lk and there’s nothing coming out afterward, you need to confirm those ( see end of last round for reference)

I was nervous as hell man! Thx for the tips and if you can watch the second vid!

Thx for all those tips man. Really apreciated. No he doesnt has a shortcut but he likes to focus a lot and that had me on my toes. We arent too good at SF but really those were helpful tips.

Thx everyone!

Good matches by Chris Hu, it’s kind of hard to believe that he did not use SRK, FADC, Ultra at all when he finished 3rd at EC Throwdown. At least according to the videos released of him. I hope he keeps improving, great American Ryu players are still a bit of a rarity.

I love Chris Hu, he’s the one who inspired me to give up Gouken at a DM tourn.

His SRK’s are just so consistent versus jumps. I really wish I could do that. Nice vid.

I guess it’s time to bite the bullet. I’ve spent the past couple of weeks working on my new website, so I’ve not been playing sf much lately. However I’ve been relearning some video editing and got a hold of a Dazzle. Took a couple of random fight videos from last night as a test, and thought I might as well post them for some advice/critique.

I already know there are a good few silly mistakes, including too much jumping and random lp srks! Not been in training mode for a bit, but I’d be happy to hear any other advice you guys can give.

That Bison wasn’t to good. Both ryus were horrible. You need to :

-Use more fireballs, learn the distance, there’s a topic about it.
-AA jump ins with a **grounded fierce **dragon punch
-Drop that cr.lp > cr.lp > cr.mk, it’s a just frame (and you got absolutely no consistency doing it) do cr.mp/hp instead. Crouch HP forces stand up so you can follow up with tatsu if you like.
-Stop doing random srk
-Stop doing cr.lp > cr.lp > nothing, crank a srk in there.
-Stop throwing random ex hadouken, save that meter for super/ex tatsu/exfc
-Stop using ex hadouken, seriously, when you have to hit confirm go for ex tatsu, it does twice the damage and twice the stun.
-Learn reverse srk, if someone keeps tatsuing over your head srk their balls.
-Learn or use srk > exfc > ultra

here is a game i had with Kageski (this is the first time i get to fight good sim) i know i wasted quite alot of chances but i did better after few games and started winning but please advice as how to make my game better thank you

sup dude… so i have quite a few comments on this. Firstly, you seem to be too desperate to get in. There’s no reason you can’t sit back for a while and try to work out the Sim’s habbits - ie. when theyre going to attack and how. That gives the oppurtunity of finding holes in their game, and using one of them to get in successfully without taking so much damage. Also, you seem to have the mentality that if you dont get all the way in on one go, you have to go back to fullscreen and start again. Why not just sit at half screen or whatever, put pressure on the Sim just cause youre fairly close, and see what you can build from there?

I didn’t see you land your ultra once, and you had a shit load of chances. i think youd do well to get more familiar with all ryu’s comboss, so you know how to capitalise on the hit you get.

You can tatsu through Sim’s ultra btw. In the ffinal round you could have tatsud into a corner combo (possibly tatsu, EX SRK, FADC Ultra?)

Didnt see this in the game, but make sure you always option select a tatsu against Sim, that way they’ll get hit anytime they teleport.

But yeah, the main point is to take time. Don’t play into Sim;'s hands by being desperate to get in, that just gives him free damage. Let him know that youre thinking about his game, to put pressure on, and just wait. he cant do much damage from fullscreen anyway. Actually, he cant do any unless you somehow give him frame advantage (like by FBing at the wrong time). So be patient, find the hole in their game, used it to get in, and once youre in know your combos to et maximum damage and keep on top of him. If you use tatsu and a really good ground game, the Sim probably wwont be able to escape once youre on top of him.

hope that helps.

Thanks Paul and yes i noticed i missed alot of chances as this i would say the first time i encounter a good dalshim who knows how to play him so i’m still unfamiliar with the matchup but now i have better knowledge.

advice taken and noted, anymore advice guys?
