"The answer lies in the heart of battle." Ryu Video Thread

Thanks for the advice, but when you guys give advice, try your best not to insult like children when you do it. Your points are harder to come accross that way :/. Be professional is all I am asking, oh wait, I forgot this was SRK. Add me On PS3 ChenLiCha and we could play some friendlies. I added you rsnake91, lets play and you can teach and give me advice if you want without saying I need to die in life because im not crazy good. Ill be on PSN. Just invite me to a match, I will wait. I added you.

  1. cLP/cLK isn’t meant to be mashed for the most part. You need to stop doing that, it’s not footsies at all. You’re both using it waaaaaay outside of their ranges too, completely whiffing. People do this, yeah… but it’s usually to mask that they’re preparing to throw a fireball, SRK or give the illusion they’re still pressuring you. I didn’t get this impression from either of you. Both of you connected a lot of times with two or even three of them and there didn’t seem to be an effort to connect a cMP/cHP/Tatsu/SRK/Hadoken. This is where your damage is going to come from. Had you guys done connected even one of these the momentum could’ve changed dramatically.

  2. Waaaaay too many SRKs on wake up and after landing from getting hit in the air. Neither of you did much about it but against the people I’ve personally played from this board you’d have eaten at the least an SRK but more than likely a quick cancel combo. You can easily drop off 20% of the guy’s life bar when they whiff a SRK. You NEED to start punishing them. Not with throws or sweeps either. Once in a while a wake up SRK is good but try blocking or backdashing if you fear getting hit by something on wake up.

  3. There was no zoning. Use your fireballs to make him move backwards/block or to force him to jump (into the SRK you’re now buffering)

  4. Footsies. You guys need to stay on the ground more, this ties into my next point as well. Use your cMK, Hadoken and cMP, Hadoken. Using them without the Hadoken is fine as well, you don’t want to get predictable. But I didn’t see you guys moving in and out of range, baiting or pressuring with these techniques.

  5. AA. Please for the love of all that is good in this world. Neither of you AAed anything… Well almost never. Jump in’s all day long that against even a TERRIBLE Ryu would’ve cost you to eat an Ultra (which many many times could’ve been landed or at least FADCed to try during this match) or at the least a SRK. You can’t jump in like this. At your level, it’s working but I’m sorry it’s because neither of you have the vaguest idea in your head about AAing during these matches. You gotta stop that. Use the SRK to stop jump ins or cHP if you’re not comfortable doing a SRK as a reaction to a jump in.

  6. Ultras. You missed lots of Ultras and chances to FADC and at least try to Ultra.

  7. EX SRK is terrible. Only use it to beat out something you really cant afford to get hit by. It has invincibility all the way to the top of the jump. It’s not meant to be used in combos. It has worse damage than the HP SRK does

  8. Use some tick throws on those many a jump ins.

  9. This needs to be said again. You need to use links. You both missed lots of damage opportunity

  10. You guys need to pressure on wake up, since you both use SRKs a lot on wake up I suggest starting with these three and then why you train each other to stop SRKing all the time on wake up you can branch out into a lot more.

A) walk up right beside your downed opponent, wait until they’re just about to get up and start walking backwards a bit. You will block a SRK if they do it on wake up but if they don’t SRK, walk in and throw

B) cross up with jLK or jMK. If they’re just spamming SRK they should either get beaten out clean or will get hit mid air but you should be fine. Watch out for the SRK again when they land. This is a bad idea, do not mash SRKs all the time.

C) charge focus attack, back dash. Punish.

  1. Use more cross ups. You can set it up without a knockdown like this… jHK, cLK, cLP, cLP, cross up. Obviously if those moves are hitting you should combo, it it’s not you can mix up or cross up.

  2. Hit confirms. This ties into a couple of the points I mentioned. When you guys jump in your attack gets blocked and you do an SRK. Why? This makes no sense without FADCing into a mix up and even that doesn’t make much sense. Jump in, cLK, cLP, combo or block string.

  3. Focus attack wasn’t really used by either of you. Use this to pressure or to encourage your opponent to stick something dangerous out. Again, cLK, cLP, cLP, LVL 2 focus attack, dash in… if it hits f+HP, SRK. If it is blocked, you guys will probably have to block the SRK and punish the person. I doubt that if I tried something like this that you’d block and try to block or tech a throw. So be careful. Against most other players, this is a great mix up. You can throw, cLK/cLP strings, cross ups or another FA LVL2. Always use LVL2, never LVL1. You only need to wait until you flash white and then release. You can back dash if you’re really worried about them following up with something after your blocked attack.

I REALLY hope you take into consideration what I’ve written and look into adding ALL of these things to your game. These are things I do routinely. This is basic stuff and you need to know it. I’d highly recommend both of you look at my old tutorial videos. Search YouTube.com for Kuma Oni. Go to my channel and look at the tutorials. Feel free to take a look at those matches if you really want but honestly it’s not even a close to a reflection of how much I’ve improved. Anyone here who’s played against me will tell you that. I, of course, am not a pro but I’ve been told by pretty much everyone here that I do a good job of explaining these basic concepts in my videos. PLEASE PLEASE look at them.

EDIT:

Okay, I couldn’t leave this up to you… here they are. In fact, anyone who doesn’t do even 1 of the things I mentioned up there should watch these. They are listed in order of what you should watch first. Also, please forgive my execution. When I made these videos I only knew of the concept for about 1-2 weeks but was so excited that I had to share with the rest of the community. This was filmed several months ago. I’ve considered making shorter more professional videos. If the demand is high enough I might just do it for you guys :smokin:

Best of luck young grasshopper. The answer lies in the heart of battle

Kuma Amazing, thanks now that was actually helpful. I’ll pratice these and then if its ok when I record again I can send it to you to examine, I mean, not all will be corrected in no time. Hey do you have PS3? I want to pratice with an SRK human.

Yeah I have PSN. I am very selective of who and when I play online though. This isn’t a no. To be honest, I used to have a lot of people on my PSN mostly due to those videos (I’m still getting messages almost daily on YouTube asking for me to add them) and I was constantly being messaged about games and it prevented me from getting execution practice in, as well… I was spending too much time trying to help rathering than helping myself. Long story short, there was about 1-2 months where I didn’t improve. At all.

Also, the connect would have to be at LEAST 3 bars. I’ll say this now, online is NOT a substitute for offline or the arcade and I strongly suggest you find your local scene and arcade if you plan on getting good at this game. We can play a few but I personally don’t like online unless I’m playing with someone who lives in my city (local scene) when we cant actually get together at someone’s house.

So, my PSN is Kumaoni but I am certainly not free today (SF4 gathering with the locals) and usually during the week days you have to catch me at about 12 midnight to 1am PST as I work 12:30-8:30pm and need to spend time with the ol’ lady when I get home.

I really hope those videos help you out. People on here can be rude, yes. I’ve been one of those rude guys. It really depends on when you catch me, haha. I try not to read this during work as much because usually I’m on edge. I try to be as helpful as possible because I learned almost everything I know on my own. I can very confidently claim that my mediocre skill level is my doing and mine alone. Yeah I’ve had pointers here and there but no one has ever really sat me down and tried to pick apart my game for me… Darth Paul and I used to do that after I already had my feet a bit a bit, I kinda miss those days.

I’d also suggest you join the training team if you’re serious. I’ve had a chance to play against some of them before and after the team’s creation and I can definitely say that there are very few to no scrubs in there. Decent players for sure.

Again though, I’m no messiah of Ryu. Please do NOT look at me like that. I like to play, I play competitively but I am still new to this game. To give you an idea, and anyone else who’s played against me if I happened to get the better end of our matches, I am ranked on the high end of the low level players or maybe low end of the middle level players in my local scene. We all have lots to learn. Find your local scene, bro. Train with them. Then rep your boys in a tournament. No shame in yellin out the love for your area code after a win.

lol dude. im not teaching anyone, im far from teaching people on how to play Ryu. so please dont ask me to teach a character( or characters) or send me random invites.

lol lets calm down now and stop sending me brainless hate mails with cursing every 2 sentences. Relax dude, it is SRK.com not your life. You can work for me when you grow up, I’ll have you clean toilets.

brainless? ok seriously shut the hell up. i was nice at first, now your being the douche bag. and for your info. im 24, not 15

Nice, did you read what you sent me in PM? I don’t think so, but its ok. I don’t care really anymore so lets just drop it.

how about you stop being a troll, and learn to take advice, in threads and listen to people.

I’m not a troll, I did take advice from people that said it properly. What are you talking about, 24? If you have to tell me your age that means your not acting it. I’m 22 but you talk so grumpy, I been here since 2008 and been playing people months ago with their mini tournaments online and I am on Capcom Unity even longer and connected some players from both sites. Your the troll, you speak with no respect as if I was suppose to read your mind and know all SRK mood swings at the start. Lets just continue it in PM and not spam the video place and we get banned or something.

LOL oh man. you blow my post way out of proportion, even my first. seriously. u have the mood swing… and i said my stuff in OUR PMs nicely. everyone is different. plus u were the one who started shit with me.

LMAO, cool, it must be Sunday.

yup. the day after a good night of drinking ftw.

good vids, ryu is beast

Hey rsnake91, you play on PSN right? I’m a ryu, still not good bu I don’t use noob tactics and I try to play intelligently, I’m looking for good mirror matches if you could add me.

My PSN is mr_sneaky

my GP is only about 7500 to give you an idea of my experience

GP means NOTHING to me.

GP means shit all Sneaky. I have like high in the 2,000 GP cause I never play online but I get lots of training in offline so I can still rock that shit!

Snake and Chen Li Cha, don’t even worry about it guys. Play online, first to 5 or something and solve it. Better play gets to gloat obviously, loser learns their place. Or you could keep arguing on here and nothing will get solved. Please post the match videos.

Well I have no local competition so that’s all I have to go by. Sf4 is my first fighter since tekken 3 and I have never played any of the other street fighter. Notice I said “to give you an idea of my experience” and not “skill” because I know as good as anyone that there are some god awful players with over 10,000 gp.

I’ve played kuma and he beats me pretty easily but I take a round from him here and there.

zero reason to play him.

GP doesn’t represents one’s skill level, i played alot of almost g1 players and they are not that good, i beat them without problems at all and i’m only almost 10k below them

higher GP can only mean either one is very good, good or play too much :stuck_out_tongue:
