The Anime and Manga Thread v.3: Read the 1st post for FAQ, tips and chatroom details!

yeah i was laughing a lot during that episode

does the anime end where the manga does?

Didn’t know there was a new Haruhi episode this week. Hopefully, Haruhi will be longer than 14 episodes.

Haruhi 10 gave me mixed feelings, on one hand I really wanted to enjoy it for its light hearted atmosphere and quirky dialogue, on the other hand, after being hurt so badly, I’m not really ready to open my heart to it again.

Juuden-Chan continues to be pure quality.
Umi monogatari seems to have a fair deal of implied lesbianism, although sadly, it seems to be platonic. Going to keep my eye on it.
I figured out what bothers me about Sora no manimani, the recurring theme about the splendor of nature. If nature is so great, why am I inside watching anime? Its like the opposite of genshiken. I could relate to that because its about a bunch of misfits who watch anime. Sora is about a bunch of vibrant and outgoing people who have interesting relationships and spend their free time marveling the heavens and enjoying the outdoors. I have never felt so alienated in my life.
Poor, poor Hime-Chan. Your chance of winning is and always will be 0%, which is tragic because you are way cooler than the hyperactive midget.

Ponyo was so awesome the animations blew me away. the dubbing was pretty great, ifi had to complain it would be hearing Ponyo for the first time but then after you get used to it the film sucks you back in.

New Soul Eater is out

Soul Eater 64

Spoiler

Fuck those half-assed wings. The spread at the end was really sick. Why can’t these chapters come out faster damn it?

I somehow missed it few days ago, but Sekirei anime homepage posted first trailer for Pure Engagement.

For those that’s been reading the manga, you can see that those all come from major scenes past volume 6.

I’m a little curious how they’re gonna fill 12 episodes. But Sakurako Gokurakuin and her editor apparently worked pretty closely with the staff in season 1 (which was partially why it was done so well), so it wouldn’t be surprising if they provide the staff with materials in advance in anticipation of anime passing the manga.

Just read a manga called Mai-Chans daily life.
The highlight was probably when she fed herself into a meat grinder to make some hamburgers for a girl with no arms or legs.

Spice and wolf 6.
who was in on it from the very beginning?

Spoiler

Horo, duh

Kinda dissapointed that Lawrence finished this quest with a speech check. Would have liked to see a boss battle or at least some kind of minigame. Was made uncomfortable by the implied bestiality.

Spice and Wolf #6 was very good. The episode had such a satisfying conclusion that I could have seen it as a final episode. I thoroughly enjoyed the interactions between Horo and Lawrence. I wonder what will happen next. I’m hoping for another long, well done arc instead of a short one. Though I wouldn’t mind a few stand alone episodes in-between for a change of pace.

All of the shows I watched had great episodes.

Kromo: That’s a pretty fucked up manga.

I just started watching Spice and Wolf season 1 because you guys keep talking about season 2 and i must say, the fact that Horo is sassy and not quiet and conservative like I’ve always thought she was is still mind blowing. Shit is still dope though.

So, I’m wondering if someone could help me with some recommendations–I know there’s a list on the front page, but I couldn’t really find what I was looking for.

Basically, a friend of mine wants to watch something very good, and “epic,” as in epic in scope. He’s seen a lot of the popular stuff like Gurren Lagann, Evangelion, Gundam 00, Code Geass, Macross Frontier, and a bunch of other series that I would categorize as epic.

The thing is, my knowledge of anime is pretty limited. So I was wondering if there was something very recent, or something rather old (early 90’s maybe) that’s considered extremely good and epic as well.

Check out Gunbuster.

]Top o Nerae 2! (Diebuster)
[]Eureka Seven
[
]Last Exile

Any of those would work, imo. :x

Make sure he watches Gunbuster before Diebuster, though.

Leave Eureka Seven for last.

That ep was so good, but they gave you so much to digest in the last few minutes.

spice and wolf 2 #6

[details=Spoiler]
so…let me see if I got the chronology of things right.

  • Horo and Lawrence are headed into town, and run into Amati.
  • Amati loses it over Horo.
  • Lawrence, trying to deflect the thought that they’re lovers for medieval reputation purposes, makes up a story about her being indebted to him.
  • Amati decides to play captain save-a-ho.
  • Lawrence, believing that Horo won’t leave him regardless and getting no indications otherwise, agrees to the deal.
  • Lawrence talks to Deanna to try to find out more info about Yoitsu and whether or not rumors he’d heard of its demise were true.
  • Lawrence received a letter about the encounter, apparently not knowing that the presumed demise of Yoitsu was mentioned.
  • Horo asks about it (while also mentioning the scent of a woman on it) and he offers it to her to read…Horo claims she can’t read for some apparent reason.
  • Lawrence leaves to do Lawrency things.
  • Lawrence returns to find Horo in hysterics over the letter, which she can read after all.
  • At the end of the heated exchange, Horo says “I’m sorry.”
  • Horo meant this as an apology for her over-the-top behavior, but Lawrence interpreted this as a rejection.
  • Horo then never, to Lawrence’s knowledge, returned, thus heightening his fears that she would leave him.
  • However, at that time, Horo actually went to see Deanna herself, and told her what was going on, with the intention to have Deanna feed Lawrence a story about Yoitsu surviving, presumably to relieve him of the guilt she’d just put on him.
  • Horo also signed the “marraige contract,” apparently to incite Lawrence to action. She apparently was waiting for him in the room. but he left immediately.
  • During the meeting, it’s acknowledged that Deanna is a bird goddess of some sort, and that she had previously had a romance with a human priest until it went sour over the hidden fact that she herself was not human.
  • As this discussion was going on, Lawrence arrived to talk to Deanna again.
  • Horo hid in the attic while Deanna decided to test Lawrence’s resolve, presumably based upon her own experiences in romance with a human.
  • Lawrence made the request to buy pyrite and asked the now infamous question on the way out.
  • Horo decided at that point to buy the pyrite herself with the intention of crushing Amati as well.
  • Lawrence began to make arrangements to try to make his gamble work, such as the spreading of the rumor that wheat was going to escalate…which never came up again and didn’t have any effect on the result, oddly enough.
and then the events of the episode.

I know I forgot something in there.

Does anybody else want to know what Amati said that pissed off Horo so much as badly as I do? The lack of knowledge is killing me.[/details]

if anyone hasn’t watched kurozuka, i’d highly recommend it.

Not really sure; I hear it actually didn’t.

Warp’s S&W spoiler

Spoiler

Rumor about wheat prices escalating? Wasn’t it about the pyrite or was I not paying attention well enough? Everything else is spot-on, though.

I’d wager that Amarti said something about Lawrence not being a worthy companion or something like that which pissed Horo off.

My money is on Amarti making a comment about Lawrence being too old for a girl as young and beautiful as Horo. I could see that getting her pissed off real fast.

Here’s what I remember about the wheat.

Basically all of the pyrite buyers didn’t care about the product itself and wanted to make a ton of money off of the soaring prices. The majority of the buyers were actually interested in buying wheat since that is a popular and stable product outside of that city whose prices go up towards the end of the festival. The plan to crash the market was two-fold. The first was flooding the market with pyrite. The second part was spreading a rumor that wheat prices were starting to go up earlier than expected. These two combined forces were supposed to drive everyone to sell the pyrite quickly so they could buy the product they actually wanted: the wheat. By everyone selling their pyrite and flooding the market, the value of the pyrite to hit rock bottom.

Umineko 7.

How the fuck you gonna slap a loli like that? Shit is so serious.

Umineko 7

Spoiler

Beatrice is fucking deadly. Best laugh ever. Still don’t know why they decided to put her in a school girl outfit. Shit is just weird.

Amarti probably came into Horo’s room and tried to convince her to stay at his place and casually commented on how the room smells like a bear died and shat itself in it. Horo is sensitive about her fur, so she wouldn’t like it being compared to a bear, and she would already be feeling guilty for pooping on Lawrences sheets again, so she’d get indignant.

If she can mate with humans she must have human genitals, which means she probably hasn’t had a douche in like a thousand years. Lawrence is probably used to the smell of dead fur and fermenting grains so he doesn’t really notice…maybe he does and doesn’t care, or maybe he likes it. But c’mon, do you really think the reason people don’t hang out with the beautiful, whimsical wolf girl is because of “the church”? Sure there horo, whatever lets you sleep at night.
