The Android thread. Questions, comments, help, etc

I always think you’ll get used to it. I mean when I was considering Note 2, I almost went iPhone only because of the size, not because I preferred iPhone. Then I saw tiny Korean women using it and thought “I ain’t no manlet!”. There’s always “1 hand mode” too.

Of course I still don’t have my Note 4, why the fuck did I upgrade and 3 weeks later still no phone.

I thought lollipop was supposed to have multi tasking? Samsung still does it the best at least for now. I’m selling my tmobile note 3 if anyone is interested.

well i’ll give you a list of some apps on mine.

a compass app.

crackle and hulu
Apex launcher with black theme turns all of your app icons and widgets black and white…with a black homescreen wallpaper looks pretty badass.

I have more apps but they’re art and medicine apps.

keep in mind that just cause you now have root access that you cant brick your device you can still brick it if you delete certain apps or flash certain roms…all depends on which model your device is.

SD maid for example allows you to delete certain system apps or stock factory apps which can brick your device. if SD Maid says in red lettering recommend keeping or some warning beforehand its best not to delete the app.
going to androidforums.com and checking up on your device’s root threads is the best way to make sure you don’t fuck it up.
reflashing a stock rom is a bitch mang.

Just gonna wait for a stable release for my device…

I forgot an app…this is a pretty fun app.
its called
Animation Desk–lets you create actual animations aka cartoons

oh and this vid explains why the Samsung Notes are so badass.

like for example you can write in your own script handwriting and the note will decipher your script and understand it and translate it into type. so you could handwrite something you wanna google search and it will translate it into the google search bar.
or like at 1:46 in the vid a rectangle with vertical lines is drawn…in hand…the note reconstructs it into a clean geometrically perfect shape. so if you draw a fucked up circle it turns it into a perfect circle, fucked up square=mathematically perfect square.
and as you can see things are written in script and it turns it into legible type. etc etc.

Eh, store manager is back from holiday. Gave him a call today, then got a text saying my phone will be delivered to the store tomorrow. So I’ll probably pick it up before/after work, or perhaps the day after. Won’t have to worry with a slow phone that’s full now, I should have about 16GB free since I’m going from Note 2 to Note 4. Anything I should really try out, or is it just the same thing but buffed up?

jesus. I spent hours today rooting my mom’s phone. she didn’t ask me to, but I always root a droid device cuz I just don’t trust OTA updates nor do I like unrooted cuz then you can fix broken shit which would need root anyway. then you cant use shit like SDMaid or Ttanium back to fix, clean up, or restore things that went wrong.
it was for her new phone. Cuz her old phone I bought her, the LG optimus F6 broke down. it got caught in an inexplicable boot loop.
a boot loop that nothing could stop. I even removed the sd card, the SIM card, and the battery and it still kept boot looping.
I even did a manual factory reset and it still would stop boot looping.
well, anyway, she bought herself a new phone and I did a root to install Titanium back up and back up her phone’s os & settings.

but…it wasn’t easy. it wasn’t like the easy peasyness of rooting my Galaxy Note tablet…which was with kingo one click root.
that took 5 seconds.

this rooting, on the other hand, was a bitch!
her new phone is a Samsung Galaxy Light.

check out all the insane amount of steps I had to do.
tell me if rooting phones isn’t getting more and more complicated with each new season of newly released phones.

  1. Extract files from Odin to your desktop by right-clicking on it and selecting Extract here.
  2. Connect your device to your PC using the USB cable.
  3. Copy SuperSU .zip from your desktop over to the root of your SD card. It’s the topmost folder on your SD card.
  4. When it’s copied, disconnect your device from your PC.
  5. Double-click on Odin executable and it’ll launch.
  6. Click on PDA and select TWRP Recovery available on your desktop.
  7. Uncheck Repartition and Auto Reboot if they’re already checked in the Odin.
  8. Turn OFF your device.
  9. Turn it back on by holding down Volume DOWN, Home, and Power buttons together.
  10. Press Volume UP and you should be in Download mode.
  11. Plug in your device to your PC using the USB cable.
  12. Hit Start in the Odin and it’ll start flashing the TWRP Recovery on your device.
  13. When the recovery’s flashed, pull the battery out of your device.
  14. Put the battery back in your device and hold down Volume UP, Home, and Power buttons together.
  15. Your device should reboot into TWRP Recovery mode.
  16. Tap on Install.
  17. Select SuperSU .zip file to be flashed on your device.
  18. Tap on Swipe to Confirm Flash.
  19. It should begin flashing the selected zip file on your device.
  20. When the flashing’s done, tap on Reboot followed by System.

I really really really wish Jolla Sailfish would come to North America already. but now I think that will never happen. the corrupt carriers, competing os makers & device manufacturers will do everything in their power to not let that happen. They know it would be game over to their constant hustling and pushing of their useless unwanted stock bloatware if they did.
Jolla=power to the consumers.
support Jolla if it ever makes it to your country.

I should root mine, being lazy atm. Note 4.

there are tons of simple one step Root’s available.

I’ve had my s5 for about a month now, and while I’m glad I finally made the switch from the dinosaur flip phone to this smart phone, the only thing I use it for is pictures and instagram hahaha. Sweet phone, takes better pics than my pentax point and shoot and isn’t too confusing as I thought it would be when ever someone would let me use theirs and I’d be lost on how to make a simple phone call. The only thing I’m worried about is when motorcycle season starts, the jeans I wear aren’t exactly baggy, so not sure if the phone could bend from being on the bike, and distort the screen.

Fuck, all these rumors about the HTC One M9 being 5.5 inches. That’s too big for me. Oh well, time to find something else. Shame, I really like the HTC One series.

Plastic cases don’t usually bend like iPhone cases. They break.

I’m sure there’s some kind of phone holder that you could use while you’re on your bike. I would be surprised if there wasn’t already a solution for that.

EDIT: Yup…

I’m trying to root my s5 but I hear there isn’t a true root for the latest firmware?

Eh, there are rumors like that too about the Xperia Z4. I love my Z3, but yeah, if it gets bigger, I will have to find a new phone because right now it’s like the perfect size.

lg g3 is about the perfect size…saw one at bestbuy the other day and that shit NICE

eventually I will buy it but its only been a year since I got my s3 lol…KINDA early to just go buy another phone

I’m hearing rumblings that OnePlus may be working on the OnePlus Two already.

Also hearing rumors that the device may feature in-house firmware instead of Cyanogen this time. Sadly, that’s one of the selling points that made me consider buying the OnePlus One despite my two rules never being met.

I’m jealous of my mom’s Galaxy Light. she can watch tv using the optimum app.
meanwhile I still cant fix her old lg optimus f6 bootloop. nothing and I mean nothing I’ve tried fixes it. I think its permanently unfixable.

Pour some cereal on it and enjoy Boot Loops for breakfast.

the M8 is 5.5 inches, isn’t it?

Besides, any of the 5.5" and larger phones, have one handed mode

trust me, the extra screen size is fine. I can’t go back to tiny little phones.

Yeah I should, cause they advertised a 32GB handset, when it’s really 24GB with all the bloatware.
