I wish I could keep ics on my g2x but no netflix or skype is starting to get to me. If only there were a proper ics rom with hardware acceleration
do not do it for this. Fucking with batteries is the fastest way to start a fire in your pants, and lion batteries are problematic to start with. do it to get new apps and gain control over it, I wouldn’t doof around with power functions unless you know what you are doing.
if you want more life, disable the faster connections and dim the screen, that’s what’s killing you.
Anyways, got one of these at work to test for compliance, should be fun

T-Mobile’s WiFi Calling is a feature that I’ve really been using a lot lately (I work at a hospital so I don’t get cell service until I get near a window…however there are WiFi access points EVERYWHERE). It sucks that the ICS roms being developed for my MyTouch4G don’t have it.
WiFi Calling with T-Mo has been proven to kill battery life significantly, even when you’re not using it (actually talking with it). I disable WiFi calling immediately whenever I flash a new rom. Also, number WON rule for battery conservation is to DISABLE auto sync in the Account and Sync section of your settings. You can easily have 2, 3, or 4+ different kinds of connections CONSTANTLY seeking information for updates (whether it be your email, FB, Twitter, etc.), which puts a constant sap on your battery. I’m currently running an ICS for my Tmo GSII and on my one charge I’m currently looking at 25 hours. I have a backup battery that I constantly swap so I never have to worry about my phone needing to charge.
I have a Zagg Sparq so I don’t really have a problem with battery life. I can run the battery into the ground and just charge it from wherever I’m at. Nothing syncs on my phone at all on top of that.
Samsung Captivate Glide through AT&T.
only now 4 more days. What’s a good screen protector? I honestly scoffed at such things as that and cases for phones til I got a bad crack in my Ally that has been laughing at me for 6 months. My plan is getting a Razr, MAYBE a Razr Maxx. what are good options?
Unless they’ve managed to perfect the batteries, I wouldn’t touch the Droid Razr just because of the lack of a removable battery.
I’d bet the MAXX version is better on battery life, but still, no removable battery is a no sale for me.
I never bought aftermarket batteries but then again I felt no need to. I do have an external portable charger I keep with me at all times. one is a small one that gives me an extra 1000 mAh. not much but works in a pinch. I’m looking at getting this for my phone and other gadgets:
Get the maxx over the regular razr

I decided after a short time with my D2 last year to do so + an external charger. Never regretted it.
Wife has the same deal with her Galaxy S.
That device looks good, but for me, It was more cost effective overall just to have the extra batteries. My mom inherited my D2 when I moved to China, and the batteries are still doing good, and served well for her when they were without power for 3 days after an EF5 tornado ripped through town.
About to get a D2G, and do the same thing, but I’ll wait to stock up on batteries until I get back to America. I had 5 with my old D2, would like to have 3 or 4 with my D2G.
I have a ZAGG Invisible Shield for my MyTouch4G. My brother has the same phone, but he picked up a screen protector from BSE. I dig the warranty that ZAGG has, so I pay extra for the brand name. But I don’t see too much difference in the quality between ZAGG and BSE.
Way over my head at the current moment. Can someone explain in stupid terms what rooting is, why I should do it, and if it carries any risks I should know?
Rooting, essentially, is the Android version of Jailbreaking. You can flash custom ROMs that have custom interfaces, overclock your phone, and run games that your phone wasn’t meant for through hacks. There is, however, ALWAYS a chance of bricking your phone. But, if you can follow directions, you’ll have a VERY small chance of that happening. Worst comes to worst, take it back to your carrier’s store and tell them it just shut off on you and won’t come back on. More than likely they’ll warranty replace it for free.
Good luck if you’re going to do that.
Just got my D2G today. So happy.
Seller wouldn’t let me get the MEID on it to check it with Verizon before I bought it, so I took a gamble. Plugged it in online when I got it, and the number’s clean!
Also came with 3 batteries, a protective case, a screen cover, a stylus for the touchscreen (lol, don’t know how much I’ll bother with that), a decent set of audio technica (that’s what the packaging says, i wouldn’t be surprised if it’s a knockoff) headphones, a 4GB MicroSD Card and even a battery charger where I can hook up my phone to a AA battery to recharge for emergencies. This was all for 840 Yuan ($140 US)
Already rooted, but it was either stock Gingerbread or flashed to the Chinese Milestone 2 ROM, because I had to wrestle to get it into English.
May flash it later to CM or Liberty. Not sure which yet. But right now, I’m just happy to have a smartphone again, and no longer have to look at my broken screen, voice calling is barely audible on the other end, dumber than dumb Chinese phone I got before.
The batteries were also OEM and pre-charged. GDLK. Finally China did something right for me.
So, if my phone shows the superuser app, yet no app, even the su app works, it’s just been unrooted, and I just need to reroot, right?
Sent from China using CHINGCHONGWINGWONGTINGTONGtalk.
If you want to unroot, it’s as simple as deleting the SU app itself. Though, in order to do that, you’ll need a file manager that can browse root directories, like Root Explorer, or ES File Explorer. If you’re talking about restoring the superuser app, it won’t be as simple as downloading it from the market. SU on the market assumes you already have have SU baked into your rom. Because it’s a system app, and not a data app (app you could download from the market), once you update SU from the market, the SU app itself needs SU (root) access to update the app, because the SU app is baked into the ROM as a system app, which requires higher (root) permissions.
Makes sense? Check to see if you have a custom recovery, and report back.
Well, the SU app is already there. But nothing SU works. I downloaded AndroSS because I thought I was already rooted, but then it says to check SU, and SU gives me errors too.
So basically, it looks like it WAS rooted, because like I said before, it IS a Verizon phone, but the Verizon D2 only comes with English and Spanish as interface languages. This one has Simplified Chinese and English, so I think it was rooted, flashed with a Chinese D2G stock ROM, and then unrooted.
So all that should need to be done is that I re-root? Or are my steps more convoluted since it’s been rooted and flashed and unrooted?
Did you check to see if you’re running a custom recovery, like ClockWork Mod Recovery? If you’re running a custom recovery, re-installing root is as easy as placing a zip file on your SD card and flashing it from recovery, which only takes a couple of seconds…
