I remember in my political science class in high school, my teacher explained how the voting process worked in our state (NY). One thing that he emphasized was that when registering to vote, even if you do not back either of the 2 main political party’s, you should register as one of them so that you can vote in the primary.
So I did.
And for YEARS, I’ve been telling friends, family, and acquaintances who registered independent that they are making a mistake; that someday you are going to want to vote in the primary and you wont be able to, and also because my city/district is so democrat-biased, that the democratic primary might as well be the general election in a lot of local races. They all brushed off my warning, likely because the Republican and Democratic nominees for the POTUS are usually decided before we get to vote in the primary (and the POTUS elections are all most people care about).
And NOW THEY WHINE, because they couldn’t vote for Bernie Sanders. Hate the system all they want, but they were fucking warned. It wasn’t rigged in this regard, those voters fucked up and should take responsibility for it.

I’m not sure you’re right on that. There seems to a belief that Trump supporters are poor white people, but exit polls don’t line up with that statement. Trump supports earn above the average in America, and earn more than Hilary supporters on average.
Rather than being poor white people, it seems Trump supporters tend to be male, white voters who don’t like the direction America is going, and are attracted to Trumps alpha male personality and his complete lack of PCness.
