I guess it all depends. In both those examples, the opponent had already initiated an attack, ie the fierce DP and Focus Attack. So that means the Ultra probably doesn’t have any invincibility on startup. But supposedly it has a zero frame startup so folks shouldn’t be able to hit you or jump out of it once you already have started it. I don’t know much about frame data so maybe someone who knows more can clarify.
If that is the case then it works the same way Akumas non-ultra demon does. This essentially means you can tick throw with the ultra. Even if that doesn’t end up being the case though if it does more damage then ultra 1 it could still be worth picking just for the extra damage off of focus attacks or oppnent slip-ups depending on the match up
Interesting thing just happened. I got a message from someone here on SRK who is a “Scandia Supervisor”. Whether or not this is the current Scandia Tech, I have no idea.
They mentioned that they have been very interested in the things I have said about Scandia. Also that if I think I can “run an arcade better”, I should shoot some ideas.
Very interesting…we’ll see how this goes.

Agreed. Also it not being a Console setup is gonna hurt really bad in about 26 days.
Still brewing it. It would be nice to get Scandia back to the old days. I love Console Get-Togethers, but arcades are so much fun. Also with Arcades you can drop in whenever you want, instead of having to schedule around someone’s personal/house time.

Really dude? Let’s not be outright rude. What I think I’ll do is mention a lot of the little things that Scandia can do better for the North Bay/SF Fighting Game Community. Getting updates for a lot of the machines other arcades already have (and have had) will be a little tough and I would guess money hungry. I’ll do what I can to suggest what other arcades that get lots of fighting game players in and see if we can work from there.
Seriously, what kind of person is running scandia’s arcade setup that they would have an account on srk, care enough to PM people that mention the place, and then cop out with that… Srk is such a huge tap into the community. Just needs to make a thread saying something like “looking to step up scandia’s game: suggestions here”

For street fighter - yes it is too late. unless a super street fighter 4 arcade edition is announced this summer Scandia will not be making any profit from fighting game players. Not until a new capcom fighter comes out to arcade. This however likely marks the death of arcade culture with no news of SSF4 to arcades. If this will continue on to the next titles from capcom… well, you can definitely say goodbye to fighting game arcade culture in America. Arcades will literally be nothing but racing games, rhythm and beat, and “ticket prize” games. Tekken, KOF, and Virtual Fighter may be good games, but American gamers in general don’t really care about anything but Capcom.
Basically, Scandia should have jumped on this a year and a half ago and it’s a real shame because the Santa Rosa area definitely has players out there. on top of that, it has individuals that could promote the scene. Actually, if Scandia wants to fix things then the obvious thing to say - things shouldn’t have gone bad in the first place. I’m sure things started to descend years ago and management didn’t really give a fuck. Not until they got an arcade machine that nobody uses and sat in the office wondering why…
Running an arcade isn’t rocket science. You buy a game people want to play when they want to play it and fix the machine when it’s broken. Other than that - you play world of warcraft in the office.

Thing about Arcades is what you mention, you either have to be at or ahead of Consoles right now. The later is extremely difficult with companies like Capcom opting for no arcade release for something like SSFIV. Also at the very least you need to ask yourself, “What are we offering, that you can’t experience/get from just Console play?”. Arcades can’t offer much other than longer hours (which sometimes are more convenient because it’s not someones house), introduction to new players and an overall fun environment…when done right.
If I get a response back, I’ll post up what gets sent.
