The 2nd KOFXII Thread (debuting at AM Show in September)

added the last 5 vids to post #3086

Well… this game certainly takes some getting used to. I was having a hard time trying to implement the b+CD counter at first (as well as watch out for when the opponent does it), and then other times I’d keep thinking I was playing any other KOF and I could throw with one button. Even worse, I’d remember that throwing is two buttons and then when I’d go into throw I’d push A+B instead of A+C and end up rolling… yeah. Entering an SF4 tournament and trying to stay in that mindset the same day you’re trying to learn a new game probably isn’t the best of ideas. (although I have no complaints with how the SF4 tournament turned out…)

I think I’m also disappointed in that I couldn’t seem to do very well with the characters I wanted to play. A lot of times I could visualize what I’d want to be doing, but then I’d just… be completely unable to do it. I’m going to go the pussy way out and blame the sticks. I was having a hell of a time hyper-hopping on those, and I lost count of the number of times I missed buffering into Galactica Phantom off Ralf’s crouching C - CD chain. Maybe the timing is tighter on CD into super, I dunno… 98 was pretty weird about detecting double quarter circle motions too now that I think about it…

I’m certainly not writing the game off yet, I will definitely be spending more time with it and hopefully get a better chance to find some characters that click with me. I really really want to like this game, but with a character roster that’s limited by KOF standards, and the characters themselves often feeling limited in general (due to missing moves or having them replaced with other weird ones… what the fuck am I supposed to with Ralf qcf+P?), I’m worried that the game won’t stay fresh for very long.

Sure does look purdy, though.

Rising Tackle is back to being charge down, up + P

Terry rising tackle is still charge motion

Really, in one vid Terry comboed into it so easily that I thought it couldn’t be charge. Is charging short.

Is it when he comboed ducking,B ducking,A down forward,C rising tackle?

Huh, looks like they ramped up the functionality of CD attacks with the parry-like and unblockable attack, in addition to them being more easily comboable. Interesting.

Leona sounds pretty good, while new Kensou and Chin might be worth trying out.

Thanks for the impressions.

So then that was df+C, I was thinking it was close C (back+C?)

Are there any vids of Kensou beasting? I really wanna see the new Kensou killing the competition (he looks too awesome not to be good)

Also Iori’s AA into super is all kinds of madness.

Does Ashs fireball super still give him massive invincibility while he’s creating it?

no, there is plenty of time to hit him out of it (which obviously cancels the fireball entirely)

Thanks to x20strike and BBH for uploading vids, and FMRoss for posting up so much info! Good shit.

Something to try next time you play: With Ash, throw them midscreen, then immediately do his ball super, then try to roll to cross them up. He probably doesn’t have enough time, though.

Another one to try is off something that gives you a lot of time (probably best in the corner), like an unteched flashkick, do the super asap and then try to instant overhead with like hop D or something, or maybe full charge CD? There’s gotta be some nasty setups with that super.

What does Robert do with fwd+B? I checked the KOF 94 and 95 command lists and I’m not seeing it there.

I’d say this is because of the zoom-in effect when characters get close to each other. Personally I don’t like this feature, it makes me confused when I watch the game’s vids.

btw, thx for the great info

Could someone link to Raiden, Robert and Ralf matches please?

It was never in 94 and 95…aka King of Repeated Jabs-into-specials 1 and 2. It started in '97 (where the gameplay got deeper due to the ability to link command attacks out of normal attacks), I believe, and it was a spinning back kick with massive range and comboability.

New or from the ones BBH/StrikeFreedom posted earlier? If it’s the latter then:

Robert:

For Ralf, I don’t think there isn’t one for him yet, unless I missed something.

I’m sure we’ll be getting more in the coming days + the release of the game after a week or two.

So, do just SOME characters have more than 1 dm? Robert, and I assume Ryo have their ranbu and Haohshokokens…

Robert, Ash, Shen, Benimaru and Ryo are the only characters with more than 1 DM, IIRC.

I hear what you’re saying, plus you have a better Idea out there than I do since you’re actually playing it. I think we’re approaching it the wrong way though. With all these new systems, whiffing throws, and these Breakings that a lot of characts seem to have, this is reminding me of more of a Garou/RB than the KOFs of old. Definately a different beast in its own right. I wouldn’t be surprised once the game is out to the masses that stuff is found and things will be figured out. (Hell the game isn’t technically out yet). Just seeing whiff throws and Breakings and whatnot with the Fatal Fury chars immediately reminded me of Garou/SFIII. That with the speed it shows and the chars make it an entirely different beast all together. Time to watch the rest of the vids.

Thanks for your work ppl, excellent vids.

Judging by the vids the game is better than I thought it would be gameplay wise. Really liking the new systems they added, like the psuedo parry and CC (which seems to balance itself by having to hit as a counter and allow for this last minute comebacks that a good fighter should be able to offer). Lots of great universal function basically that any character can use.

I think its great that the experienced player couldn’t just jump in and fire away, shows that the game is different and there will be a lot to learn. I’ve played KOF2002 to freaking death so the last thing I need is to be able to feel right at home within secs.

Iori’s grab seems nerfed, you could run and combo before (into a super if you had bar) but now its just a dp and a super (the damage seems to be as much as a standalone super overall). It will be even more nerfed if it lost invincibility.

Now Goro Daimon… that is some damage he has on his throws.

Kensou is now now the resident badass, he just oozes style and power. Definitely the first character I’ll.

So far every character looks useful, can’t see anyone look particularly weak

Overall, I’m beyond impressed by the pace of the game and how it feels, just praying to all that is holy that there will be a pc version and it will work on my pc well.

EDIT: About Ralf’s move where fire just kinda appears in front… it has autoguard but Ralf still takes damage during it. I could be wrong but I could have sworn I saw someone cancel it into Galactica in one of the loketest vids.

yo! this game is hot!!! is there any link to clark’s Super DM, still haven’t seen it yet.

Also if ryo does that move where he punches you a bunch of times, and robert does that move where he kicks you a lot at the same time, will it cause a bunch of clashes, i think that would be funny.
