Does Ash and Duo Lon have their LDMs from previous games?
Does CC eliminate charge times?
1st ?: No they don’t
2nd ?: Don’t know
Since people are talking about testing shit, I’m trying to think of shit to test…
The only thing I can think of atm is: see what happens when you get an anti-air counter-hit with CC. maybe you can do an anti-air juggle? Or maybe it doesn’t cause a stun at all?
see if ash can link flashkick super/anything after his b+B; the recovery looks a lot more like 2003 speed
check if Kyo can (in the corner) do blah blah CDxxqcf+hk,hk and then juggle after
see if Iori can link cr. lk after his dash side slash special when the opponent is crouching (it was like this in one of the loke tests)
see if raiden can link after poison breath (lp or hp)
i’ll be thinking of more
OH I THOUGHT OF ONE
See if you can block after the opponent parries a cr.A with that b+CD thing. It happened in one of the early videos (I think Kim did a cr.B, got parried, had time to do a cr.A before the counter attack hit him).
Err…what… It’s out? How? -confused-
Well, I went through and watched all the HardEdge footage related to that link (up thru the Feb. 11 videos), and while I feel a LITTLE bit better about parts of the game, I’m still not all that impressed. This isn’t to say my soul is crushed or KOF is dead to me or anything – but where I expected SF4 to suck balls and by December I was hyped as hell for it (and I was even more blown away when I actually got to PLAY it…SF4 Dictator for the fucking win), we’re at basically the same stage of development for XII now and I’m nowhere near as energized by what I see. I know the loke test player skill isn’t that great for obvious reasons, but I’m not convinced that real play is going to unearth that much more depth/awesomeness, either.
The roster still kinda disappoints me; I know they had to trim the cast for the initial re-animation so that the game wouldn’t take a decade to animate, but it’s kinda especially painful in this game, given that my favorite KOF characters have a long history of getting killed off (O. Yashiro, Chris/O. Chris, Shermie/O. Shermie, Mature, Rugal), phased out (Krauser, Heidern, motherfucking Lucky “HOOOO!” Glauber), or are at least on hiatus for XII (Mai, Mary, Vanessa, Yamazaki, Gato, Kula, K`, Adel). I’ve always RESPECTED most of the KOF cast for what they each try to do TECHNICALLY, but I’ve never really LIKED most of the people who’ve been retained for XII (I’ve just never been a Terry/Kyo/Ryo kinda guy.) Good to see Raiden again, though; Raiden needs more love.
My perennial favorites Ralf and Clark are still in, but I’m not really terribly pumped about what’s new with either of them. Ralf’s new Heavy D! ground pound doesn’t look as terrible as it seemed at first glance, and being able to chain into his old stand CD looks neat, but he seems to kinda cry out for his old backbreaker. Glad to see that Galactica Phantom is no longer a gimmick, though. Gatling Attack actually seems to have some use now with Critical Counter combos.
Clark seems okay, although I have to wonder where Napalm Stretch (lol) and his Frankensteiner (less lol) have gone to. His/Ralf’s new stand CD or whatever the new universal autoguard attack is called seems pretty decent.
And of course, both of them are still ENTIRELY too huge. I’m sorry, I really try to get past the cosmetic aspects of the games I play, but these guys are MUCH TOO LARGE. To me, the whole point of old Ralf/Clark was that they were NOT all that huge (I think even Shermie was taller than old Clark!), but they packed a lot of ass-whooping into their smallish frames. (How DOES Clark manage to frankensteiner someone as huge as Chang, if not by sorcery?) Inflating them to Liefeldian proportions just kinda defeats the point of their original design, IMO.
Leona still looks like fun. Still, her and Ralf and Clark are really the only ones who remotely approach “I kinda wanna play as that guy” in KOF XII. This is really disappointing to me, because in other KOF I generally play around with at least half the cast with real interest in addition to my staples (generally Mai/Ralf/Clark). I don’t really get that feeling with most of the cast of XII. (I will admit that being able to chain into the new knockdown moves for combos like Terry close attack, whatever the hell command for his new tackle, Burning Knuckle juggle helps the game’s pace a bit, but I still don’t really feel compelled to play as Terry, Kyo, etc. It’s just not in my blood.)
tl;dr: Ikari Warriors remain awesome.
Please deflate Ralf and Clark’s muscle suits.
I’m going back to '98 UM/2k2 UM/XI unless they add Mai for the home release of XII.
