The 2nd KOFXII Thread (debuting at AM Show in September)

same way prince of persia (2008) got so many thumbs down before it came out… out of all the reviews i read over 70% of them bashed the illustrative art style… but this is like the most beautiful game ever made so far… game play could’ve been a little more challenging… the boss battles were good, just would’ve liked more traps and obstacles

worst part about it is that SF3TS was THE BEST SF GAME EVER RELEASED IMHO. it was too technical and difficult for the general public. hence why it didnt sell too well. SFIV has what it takes to lure in the masses of dumbasses. i know people who bought it and are selling it again cause they cant unlock gouken, gouki and seth. and the funny part is, that these people cant even perform a fucking ultra to save their lives. let alone do the challenges or anything that would make them decent players. i think a lot of these people got into srk during the 09 period. theres gotta be 09 members who know their shit and could potentially push most of the peeps shit in hard. though that would probably be the 1 in a million 09 members.

pop 08 was one of THE WORST games ever. yeah it looked good, but what the fuck was up with only 1 vs 1 battles. fuck no, it was even 2 of us vs 1 enemy? wtf? i honestly expected battles with more the 1 opponents. friend of mine sold the game in a few days cause of it. we finished nj2 in 2 days or so, so the dificulyty of POP was laughable at best. GOW3 will probably fix my fix.

I think they nerfed Ralf from the looks of these videos. His damage was never exactly massive but it looks like he is a little slower and so far, all I’ve seen is his Galactica Phantom super, which looks pretty bad in KOF XII. I am guessing it needs to be charged up because when he landed it in a combo the damage looked like crap compared to other characters’ super moves.

I hope he gets one of his gattling punch supers back.

I think its just the casual audience that splooges over 3D.

Agreed.

The change to 3D just felt like a cop out to me.

People expected SF4 to be 2D? Get real, (almost) all of their sprite artists left in 2001 after CvS2. Look at SBX, did Capcom make it? Nope, Arc did their dirty work.

How do you people know this shit?!

Cyberfanatix posted that there will be a 02UM and XII comic series:

It felt like an intelligent move. 3D models are much easier to render and update. And with the right hardware and design, they look extremely impressive.

Not that I’m against new sprite-based fighters (I’m totally reserving XII), but faulting Capcom for making a sound decision seems silly to me.

I agree with the general consensus that 3D = more eye candy for the casual gamer. Read some other video game forums, and you’ll find questions like Is KOFXII for XBLA because it’s 2D and not worth a 60 dollar price tag.

It’s the truth that’s backed up by one important fact:

Capcom Fighting Jam, the ultimate crossover we all know and love very much. Only new character was Ingrid and they used some crack brained moron to trace images and edit some heads and faces a little. Even the backgrounds were horrendous, T. Hawk is an edit of Ken’s Third Strike artwork.

Face the facts, Capcom gave up on 2D (fighters, of course). No one with common sense expected SF4 to be 2D if they weren’t willing to seriously work on CFJ.

Its funny since it’s much cheaper to make games in 3D, so a a hand drawn 2D game warrants a higher price tag than a 3D game, silly morons.

Because some people who like SF don’t only look at the competitive aspect and the same way people find out information on how to play games competitively–people who appreciate the artists find their blogs or pay attention in interviews for things beside " when is the next sf game coming out zomg plz help?!" Its been common knowledge that Team Dirty Beret pretty much dissappeared in early 2000’s where some of them ended up getting work at SNK/Playmore or Sammy.

No img tags? Lame. Anyway, this was a big hint that Capcom didn’t give a damnfuck anymore.

What are you talking about?

That’s a gif from the background of Capcom Fighting Jam. They snatches Adon’s sprite and took out 90% of its frames and pasted him in the bg as parallax in CFJ–showing how lazy Capcom was with its production.

Why do people get so religious about 2d or 3d models? (I can understand 2d vs 3d gameplay for the most part.)

Stopped caring right there.

I don’t know, I like sprites but I like things that look good over anything else. Some people get a bit overzealous, I guess everyone needs a cause.

Keep in mind that other fully-featured fighters have hit XBLA. The question is, does KoF XII offer enough, in comparison, to justify full game price?

I’m more than willing to pay full price for XII myself, but I can understand why gamers might be skeptical of how much their money is buying them. It isn’t like XBLA has too many size restrictions anymore anyway (Portal, Watchmen).

Aesthetics are important. And while I’m not a 2D fanboy by any stretch of the imagination (e.g., I wouldn’t have cared if HD Remix was polygonal as long as its gameplay remained intact and unchanged), 2D does age much better than 3D (e.g., Yoshi’s Island). I can see why many gamers would prefer one over another.
