Chaos Breaker’s graphics look nice but…KoF XII’s still looks better. Are there any HD gameplay vids of Chaos Breaker though?
I don’t think so, since it’s arcade only and the rom is not dumped. So unless there’s some official trailer in HD(which sounds unlikely considering it’s a japanese game that was released years ago… back then HD trailers wasn’t big, and as we’ve seen with KOF XII even now Japan is still a bit behind on the HD trailer thing) I think we’re screwed on that.
Also, “high quality” would be more descriptive, since I assume Chaos Breaker isn’t “HD” in resolution.
Maybe one day we’ll be able to MAME that game.
Its not that the rom is not dumped. The board isn’t emulated.
Everybody’s now hot for Chaos Breaker ever since they saw that “Obscure Fighting Game” thread.
^You can play as an undead knight riding an undead skeleton horse, how could one not be hype?
@Yin- Heh yeah, if there were HQ quality gameplay vids, I guess the comparison could be much more fair.
^^I know it looks awesome, but nobody can play it…
Considering '94 had 5 from FF (Mai, Kim, Terry, Joe and Andy) and 5 from AOF (Ryo, Robert, Takuma, Yuri and King) in a cast of 24 characters, XII should be set for FF chars (it’s almost the same cast as 94 too, except instead of Mai we get Raiden, what a trade-off…) but needs 3 more AOF chars if they are going to have both series weighing the same.
I don’t know if they will do it that way (it would be far too predictable so I don’t believe it), but it gives me more hopes of King in XII :~
Maybe both? I recall seeing it on “the guru”(or whatever he’s called) list as not dumped.

What I meant was, it doesn’t matter if the rom is dumped. But yes, you’re right.
I think Chaos Breaker was made on Taito type x1 board so it wouldn’t be HD but there are some HQ vids.
Eolith the makers of this game also did KOF2K2 didn’t they? What have they been doing since Chaos Breaker?
Yeah, Chaos Breaker is low res, and animates like Rumblefish. It certainly doesn’t animate better than 3S or AOF3, and the sprites are nothing to call home about.
The skull on the horse is broken, BTW.
Really? I can’t see anything pointing to it using the same technique as Rumble Fish (and Odin Sphere), that is “paper-clip-art-doll” style. I think that style would be difficult to use on low res pixel characters, the rotations of the parts would look awkward?
I remember in Rumble Fish how it usually looked real slick, but then that kimono-girl turns her back on you or something in the win pose and while she turns it is sooo obvious that she’s made of different “parts” that are just moved/scaled/rotated and sometimes changes art (because the turn requires this change of art very much and they didn’t use enough frames or something).
Eolith did both KoF’s 2k1 and 2k2
I can’t wait for this game!! It looks pretty good and it could be better than street fighter lol
Does anyone know which characters (if any) in this game will have move sets similar to charge characters in SF?
I’ve dabbled in SNK fighters in the past (SS, FFS, KOF98, MOTW, CVS1). But only played as a couple characters in each.
I’m asking because I have a local friend who plays mostly charge chars in SF but I’d like to try to get him into this game too since it’s shaping up to look good.
If a few chars had that move set, it’d help lure him in.
Ash and Leona are charge characters.
Ash is definately a guile type charge character with projectiles and summersault kicks. Leona is a more tricky and I guess can be compared to Dictator though thats a really big stretch.
Ash has a charge-back projectile and a charge-down upward kick. That’s a bit Guile.
Nope, Ash=Remy; both are French and have a throw move that does 3 hits and juggles.
I dont think you wanna start playing KOF games with charge characters, even if thats what your friend likes to use in SF. You gotta get yourself used to the fast pace of the later KOF games and I think its easiest using non-charge characters. Learn Kim, hes fast, has good pokes, hes easy to pick-up and he has a very flash-kick-esque charge down-up kick anti-air. And sometimes he has his charge back-forward kick slide.
