Uh, wow, the game looks…Really early. All sorts of weird shit going on in that vid.
Aren’t they just drawing over old sprites like they always do?
Ryo does have his fireball. I think it’s short range.
Anyways in the video, Shen does his qcf a and Kyo does his dp. They clash and Shen cancels the clash into a roll. Later on Ryo cancels his DP clash into a backdash.
Let’s make one thing clear. I hate clashing.
Doesn’t Ryo move like he does in CVS?
This game looks soooooo sexy. I can’t wait to get my hands on this jewel.
Well, nothing more solid than most info we get from gaming sites. The author clearly said that they visited the SNK Osaka office and got the info from SNK…I don’t how much more “source” info people are expecting from an online article.
But, if people have evidence that it’s false, please let me know.
Well this shit is fucking insane. Niggaz on the Barry Bonds diet. And Athena is thick now, wow!! It kinda reminds me of how AOF3 looked. I gotta see more of this here. I kinda had a feeling this would be a Dream Match game because they ditched the tag system. But it does throw the formula out of whack though. Fuck it, shit look to gangsta for me to give a shit.
-I saw the complaints on how slow the loading was, so I upped it to YouTube. So enjoy that.
hm
i’m starting to have concerns. clashing looks really odd. every concern i have is mostly unfounded because noone good is playing this, yet, but… moves seem to hit at odd times and there seems to be no real ‘confirm’ frames after hits, moves seem to just animate ‘right through’ (if anyone gets what i mean by this). clashing doesn’t make a lot of sense to me, i wish some nut from snk would explain it. and i am really wary about the fucking super ash does at the end of that one video with no real rhyme or reason.
still, it’s unfinished. please be good, kofxii, i would like to play you. with friends, not by myself.
at any rate, game looks pretty nice. very high resolution and smooth animations, although graphically some things look a little odd to me (kyo’s win animation, for example). i fucking absolutely love the dynamic sprite lighting, though, which i guess means that behind each sprite there’s 3d information that dictates how light interacts with each part of the sprite depending on the light source. that’s sexy as fuck.
What’s up with Ash’s super? It just disappears on hit(quite unimpressivly so too) instead of moving right through and chipping away.
What you’re referring to is “hit stop”. Most fighting games have a short 2-4 frame pause right as an attack connects. You’re correct, the game doesn’t appear to have that yet. There also doesn’t seem to be much push back from hard attacks. Super freeze hasn’t been implemented yet either. It’s early though, I imagine most of this basic stuff will get ironed out.
i really dont see how this can come out in 2008 and be a coherent game when its almost october, only 2/3rds of the characters are done, theres no meter display, etc.
My God… KOFXII looks so good. And wasn’t it stated that KOFXII was supposed to come out in 2009?
Kind of odd that the flames from kyo’s and ash’s attacks no longer ignite the opponent.
They seem to be using an early build for the test hence some of the stuff that seem kinda odd to some.
Leona looks cool, but younger.
And like everyone else has said, Ryo and Ralf are fucking huge.
They said May 2009 on console, and 2008 for arcade. seems waaaaay too soon for how much of the game look done so far.
So is it confirmed that there’s no super meters or super flash or anything? If that’s the case, along with other major changes to gameplay, it seems like they are really going for a ‘new’ style. Well, I put that in quotes because adding/removing features that fighting games have had for years isn’t really new, but with no meters it’s definitely a major style change.
Some things I noticed from the video:
-
Game speed is slower, but might seem faster if good players were playing. Still, definitely slower compared to any other KOF.
-
At 0:38 and 0:45, you see Kyo whiff a grab, so I’m assuming 2-button throw is in, along with whiffs. Long, very well-animated and noticeable whiffs at that. Also, later on, you can see that throws are not insant, as Kyo is in his grab animation for 1f before he throws Ryo. The video is 30fps so you can’t tell exactly, but normal throws are definitely not instant still.
-
Rolls are harder to see, as there is no shadow effect, but they are more similar to the old speed (97-2002 era).
-
You can see the spin stun from Garou at 1:28, Ryo’s low jab clearly combos. Also, no combo display.
-
Ash’s orb ‘super’ is really damn slow. So slow that it looks like there’d be no way to set it up. If there is really no super flash (to take up time) that’s going to be added, I’m kind of confused that a move like this would exist in a game made in 2008. It reminds me of games from the 90s where devs would just add moves because they looked cool.
While the graphics are great, everything else seems like I’m looking at a VERY pre-alpha build of a game.
FINALLY! Thanks good sir, you are a gentleman and a scholar.
That’s what it looks like to me really.
I hope they go all-out on the pyrotechnic effects and presentation. Losing the serif fonts would be a good place to start.
As long as this isn’t anywhere near the final build, it looks freaking phenomenal.
God, has it been 15 years since KoF '94??? I just remembered I’m an old sack of shit.
VEEEEERRRRRRY pretty, but that’s it. There’s no way in hell this is coming out this year. Spring '09 at the earliest.
Which is their release date- April 09. Was announced as well.
I can’t see May 09 console now unless they do simultaneous release.
I just hope SNK adds more chars in later on. 3s-level animation is hard to do, so adding through updates 1-2 at a time would be nice.
throws are A+C
