The 2nd KOFXII Thread (debuting at AM Show in September)

Its a 60fps vid, this is what the game will look like (the flow of it at least) on your TV. The other videos are all ~30FPS.

I really wish i could rep you for that.

Damn I can’t wait

Did they change Athena’s super? It look more like a cone shape now.

i agree about the first part of your post. but the last part, the ultimate 2d possible? not even close to it.

the ultimate 2d fighter would be very costly. all characters should be in Full HD, the animation should be unseen compared to ANY prior 2d game before it (constant 60 fps with everything), even the bg’s all fully animated in 60 fps and actually interacting with the figting.

imagine the standard things like people looking at the fight and acting according to it, things happening in the BG because of the fight, stages actually changing where you can break stuff, and even where moves like powerwave leaving tracks on the ground. most awesome thing would be SS64style (or doa4 style) where you smash your opponent through the bg’s wall and land in a different part of the stage where you continue your fight. the things you could do are almost limitless, it would be awe inspiring and thrilling as fuck. and we aint even talking gameplay yet (not a lot to do with looks, so duh).

but then again, the budget to that in Full HD 2d with animation like in akira or gost in the shell would be fucking expensive. especially if you add more that 20 characters and bg’s in it. if it ever happened id like it to be a completely new SS game. :nunchuck: damn.

she’s just doing her throw in the vid

The 2D in KOF12 and Blazblue are still “pixel art”-ish - it has hard edges and pretty much look like they were made with the old sprites techniques just bigger. The “ultimate” 2D(altough personally I like the pixel look) would be animation(as in movie/tv-series) quality, with soft alpha, super hi res and all.
Or even crazier, like quality digital artwork but animated. Though that would take some sort of insane army of artists.

I didn’t mean KOF12 and Blazblue are as good as 2d could get I’m just wondering if they’ll ever go beyond that due to time/costs and possible lack of returns. Obviously the success of the new KOFs and the BB series would decide that, but I would’ve have thought they’d have to be very successful.

BB is at least one of the top arcade games in Japan at the moment but if KOF12 were a disaster would it break SNK for the last time?

i like sprites not anime lol.

you mean, something like odin sphere? that would be cool  , of course the pixel art rocks too

but both are cool man, and in the end both are the same

And when you say break SNK…you mean SNK USA right? Because SNK is quite popular still in Japan…(and other places as well)

my only concern is the piracy here in latino america, that could hurt kofxii, hope that the fans show their support buying the game

Yes, that would be cool indeed! Vanillaware needs to get into the fighting game business, Odin Sphere is beatutiful. But actually, it is made similiar to the Rumble Fish fighting game, as in “advanced paper clip dolls” rather than hires sprites. A character is built with several pictures that are rotated/moved and sometimes the art is changed when rotating is not enough.

I meant kinda like HD Remix. Actually, very much like HD Remix. But without the restriction of having to fit an old game, and maybe a bit more work put into it.

I really think that for KOFXII and beyond to be a success, SNKP really has to work on its community outreach to the non japanese speaking world.

Good to hear, hope their future isn’t dependent on this one game where they seem to have spent so much of their time and resources.

As Digitalfuel says though it’d be nice if they were able to put more effort into marketing/promoting this game in Europe and America and getting a larger fanbase over here. Look what hype did for SF4. It’s a similar situation for VF which is big in Japan but Sega don’t give it anything like the support over here anymore.

A simultaneous world release 4 months after arcade is a good start.

Sexy-looking game is SEXY. Can’t wait for this one too.

…Actually? They (kinda) WERE…for a time.

According to an interview in PLAY magazine from a while ago (I believe Odin Sphere was on the cover), back in the day, a number of the people who worked at Vanillaware were at Capcom, and these same people gave us Muscle Bomber/Saturday Night SlamMasters, as well as probably other Capcom fighters from that time frame, before they left to do their own thing.

And, at least in some ways, it seems that experience is still with them, as anybody who played some of their games (Princess Crown, with its “Super Combo Finish Flashes!”), would be able to see.

So, they probably DO have the personnel and the talent to probably make a competent FG, but will they ever get around to it? That’s a good question. Who knows what they’ll do, after finishing up Muramasa for the Wii…

I doubt they could pirate the arcade version, seeing at how highly costly the game’s board is (Taito Type X2). Neither could they do it with the PS3 version of the game, which might be the most popular in terms of sales (Not sure how the next gen consoles fare there)

There’s still the issue of pirating games on the 360, though.

My only problem with the game atm is the speed. It sometimes looks decent and then sometimes it feels like everyone going in slo-mo. I hope this isn’t a problem by summer.

the world will explode if that happens

That or the vid uses a build of the game from pre-recent loketests.
Man Raiden’s super start-up is so damn AWESOME!
Robert fixing his jacket before finishin his Ryuko Ranbu is TOO pimp.
Now I wish there was a True HD ver. of that trailer
