thats pretty funny actually. in 91 terry was a metro man. in 94 he became rugged, we got introduced to a new metro character, kyo. everybody thought kyo looked like a ***, then we got iori in 95. but after actually playing with iori it became clear that he was too cool to be considered girly or metro. he had the look, but he fought like a killer.
story goes on to 99, we got a new metro hero, k. k was even more metro than kyo and iori combined but he was still straight, or so it seemed. just then everybody thought (at least me and then some) when it couldnt get any worse we got ash. who not only looks like a girl, but has a girly voice and figure, not to mention moves like a transvestite.
now, just how metro can you go? dont know. KOF XIV will have a new story arc, and we may just see the newest metro fighter to date. so womanly that hell put even mai to shame for walking like a sac of sugar. no elegance. kind of funny how iori went from being a metro to being manly in a year. will ash be considered manly in a few years when metro takes a plunge ito the dark unkown? or will japan have been satisfied with loli bishounens by that time? who knows…

Pretty much, but a couple of things can be traced to Ash’s look. First the artist behind 2003, a lot of his designs are… lets call it metro. No bigger example then several of the designs of new characters and alternate costumes in Maximum Impact. Secondly, I maybe alone in this but since 03, every time I look at Ash, I see an altered version of Kula’s sprite with a different head.
Maybe they intended to make him such to hint at him being a girly man villain in the same vein as many Final Fantasy and anime villains but eh, he plays decently enough and I don’t usually like using charge characters.
Ash is straight. There’s some DS (?) SNK dating sim game with KoF characters, and he’s one of the males that the chicks can date.
K’ has coolness and hot off the freakin’ scale! 
It should have been “everybodys gay for K” instead of Bridget, it even rhymes.
Hm… Oh yeah, gotta end the post with something straight for balance without resorting to the “no homo”-meme… 
Uh… Vanessa is so hot, she’s like girl-K’. Angel and Vanessa, they’re the good ones. The rest of the SNK chicks is a bit meh. Well, King and Foxy are kinda nice too.
As for Ash, I think he’s a pretty refreshing addition. He has funny flamboyant animations and stuff like “hobby: painting his nails”, cracks me up. Also the whole stealing-Ioris-flames thing was nice, mixing things up.
Would be interesting if the next “hero”(or anti-hero in Ashs case) was an actual girl. How about fast forward a bit, and go Kyos or Ioris daughter. I’d like to see the design for that.

Since they’re using 3d models as reference for the 2d, they should just give the 3d model some crazy boob physics. Shouldn’t be that hard to make the best Mai ever with the help of modern technology :woot:

On the other hand, as I said on one of my first posts here in SRK, I’m a complete SNK newbie… still I’ve played most of SNK games thanks to emulation, bargains, etc. And I have to admit that they design cool chars, very attractive most of the time, especially the girls. Angel, Vanessa, Blue Mary (most people don’t like her, I do), Mai, Kula, Bonne Jenet… those make a good list compared to Capcom’s iconic beaties Chun-li, Cammy and Sakura? SamSho’s Iroha is outstanding also.
The first time I saw Ash (video) I thought “she” was hot too, his sprite has very womanly curves and manners and I was so confused about his gender. I have this problem since I learned that Final Fight’s Poison was a man
where you even playing ff1 back in 91? what i meant to say was you could clearly follow the transition from fighters that actually looked like fighters to fighters that look like x factor idols or whatever. point is terry used to be a pretty boy fighter, but compared to nowadays standards hes a barbarian. if you had been following these games you might have noticed it somehow. i have and i did notice.
Considering they gave her a color scheme mimicking Ash in MI2, I’m pretty sure they were thinking it too.
Could have sworn Kula was girl-K’, but eh.
