Lol. A Killer Instinct/Soul Calibur fan site voted Killer Instinct and Soul Calibur above fighting games that aren’t complete shit.
I’m certainly shocked and awed.

Funny how so many of you are hating on SC and I bet none of you ever played it at high level. SC on Dreamcast/Arcade was deep and a lot of fun, and should be ranked high. SC2, not really, too many glitches. Then again, MvC2 has glitches and is popular. SC3 is glitch heaven but definately shouldn’t be on top 20. You should probably consider how deep the game is before hating on it. MK1/2 changed fighting games, w/out it, it would have taken years for that kind of violence to increase.
Wait, so you’re saying that Time Killers, Eternal Champions, Weapon Lords and Splatter House weren’t violent enough?
difference between those games and mortal kombat is that it’s PLAYABLE. mortal kombat had the first signs of extreme violence in a fighter but that wouldnt matter if the game was complete trash like those others.
I think it can be manipulated just like any poll. If you change the wording of the question, people will give different responses. To get a really accurate assessment, the polster should be accurate in framing the question to get the answer that he wants. Because for example a response would be different if the question were what is the best fighting game as opposed to what is the fighting game that had the biggest impact in the genre. Totally different questions as well as responses if people really thought about it seriously. This is what we need to know what the criterias are that a polster used. Still kudos for putting the list together.
Believe me no-one was as shocked as we were about some of the results. Personally, I would have liked KOF 98 to be in there somewhere, CvS2 and VF4: Evo ranking a lot higher, and MK dropping down a few places. SC2 and SC should have at least been switched around, T3 should have ranked higher, and I don’t think KI should have ranked in that high.
But it’s what was voted for, so that’s the way the results have finished up.

“If A-Groove was selected, your character played like Super Street Fighter II Turbo.”
Thats quoted from the CvS2 section and its pretty incorrect.
Where the hell was SCIII?
They made room for Mortal Kombat I and II, and Killer Instinct, which I felt shouldn’t have been on the list. Why not SC III?
That might be the single worst “best of all time” list I have ever seen. It just goes to show that allowing people to vote on them doesn’t really result in an accurate (or even remotely accurate) representation of “best” (be it contribution to the genre, original design, overall balance etc).
You can make lots of arguments against many of them but what still puzzles me is SSBM being on the list and being so high for that matter!!
Consider SC III is already dieing it wasnt going to make the list.
Why is that hard to believe? While it hasn’t taken here, it has taken with MLG, anime fans and casual gamers. So it has a high fan base, which evidently found that site and voted for it.
The top 20 list is pretty ludicrious, it’s fairly safe to say, many of the games there where ranked because of fanbase more so than “quality” of the game. Some of the things that eludes me is this…how Tekken5 is ranked, but TekkenTag which is undoubtedly the best Tekken game of all time was not even ranked at all. SC is a great fighting game, however it should have not have been ranked higher than 3S, however I do feel that SC was a great fighting game because it took the series to a much more promising direction then it’s predocessor.
SSBM although is a great game as well, I feel that being ranked #3 is placing it too high in the pedestal, when there are other fighting games that should’ve been posted up on there over SSBM. KillerInstinct during it’s time was a fun game as well, but I feel it got ranked too high as well at #2. SF2 should be #1, although I was only about 9 years old when it hit the arcades around where I was at, the impact that it made, the the lvl of competetion that grew from there was incredible. I’ve never seen 20+ people gather around one arcade machine and stay that way until the mall closed, everysingle day you would see new faces, and definetly the old faces would always return, and this was with SF2 ONLY, the fanbase, the bonding, the competetion. In my opion I will NEVER EVER see this again, only the new generation gamers would not appreciate what SF2 brought to the table, if you where there during the Golden Era you would’ve also said SF2 is #1, and it is imo unfair to say that it wasn’t if you weren’t there to have experienced it yourself, since many of the great players and oldschoolers at that time have now retired and moved on to more important things within their life.
Games like VF4 where not even listed…whats up with that? MvC2 ranked so low, I get annoyed at the people who bash MvC2, when they don’t even realize how hard it is to even get to the high lvls, with the Top Characters(exceptional is Cable who is very scrub friendly), MvC2 should’ve gotten a more worthy mention. This ranking I’m sure anybody knows for the majority of the fighting games was ranked from popularity more so then anything else, you get a herd of people who just vote for their game that they love and they dont even give a two cents worth about the other games. Seriously, many of the games that where ranked so high, I’m betting that the majority of the people who voted for them have NO clue about the other fighting games at all, except for their own thoughts on what they like.
My word of caution is this, the ranking of the fighting games was stupid, because it was more fanbased on the majority of the games then actual knowledge of the games and having a more concrete evaluation of all the fighting games. Ranking by fan’s will ultimately give you a more “fanbase” ranking.
This is a popularity list, not a quality list.
sc2 being #2 makes my dick fire off into deep space and create a black hole.
not to mention a3, marvel, cvs2, and 3s being higher on the list than that piece of shit. oh yeah… no TTT??? yeah fuckin right.
Thta is so true, I couldnt agree more, they dont have many of the most played games in tournaments around the world, I still would like to know why and how come Tekken 1 is better than Garou in that list (Im talking about Tekken 1 and not about Tekken 5)
DId anyone know that Soul Calibur One on Dreamcast got a perfect 10 on gamespot??
Since everyone hates/disagrees with the list… let’s make our own!
Best fighter because of animation, fluidness, combos, and atmosphere.
