TFNS: Super Street Fighter 4 Grind Week in Toronto, April 29 - May 2

I haven’t talked to him since last time in buffalo. I thought i made him retire?

but if u do have the chance, plz let him know that he has a better chance winning the pownz tourney since all the top players are in TFNS

I see petty advertising has become a new form of marketing!

First post updated with Tekken 6 BR Singels tournament.

Time for the real talk.

Can someone explain what part of growing is more important to the scene? Cause Curt’s argument seems to be that its all in numbers. Sorry that doesn’t fly when majority of those numbers are free. Or you have the growth where everyone has the option of playing more and getting better, not just the people in hamilton or the surrounding area. A lot of these toronto players don’t have a car and don’t really have any real reason to leave toronto to play.

I don’t see “growth” in a 60man tourney where 45 players are scrubs. So in reality, this is only really effecting the growth of Pownz, not the growth of the street fighter in TORONTO.

You know why he stickied this thread? Because it’s his JOB as a moderator to SRK.

You want to know why I think he’s being petty and childish? I had to get Anant to tweet this on GTASF twitter, because Nagata did not. And the fact that it’s not even on the topic of #gtasf. Or how about the other multiple times where he felt he gets cheated, waits for things to go wrong, then tries to play back-seat driver saying it shoulda been done like this/like that etc. I’m sure you’re aware of all the shit talk he did on JS and Stephen when they took a hit on TX. In case people weren’t aware, they decided to hold TX during the summer, suffered a loss, and here comes Nagata laughing it up with everyone making sure everyone knew the tournament was a failure. Sounds like someone thats thinking of the big picture right? Instead of being the bigger man and supporting the tournament, he did jack shit out of spite.

Or how about the Netchamp fiasco? What did he do there? Oh right, nothing. You know what my problem is? After all this talk about how he wants to tihnk big picture, at the end of the day, hes nothing but spiteful. if he really wanted to think things big picture, he would try to work things out, and be a better person in all this. Now, I’m only saying this, because while I might do the same in his spot, I’m not the one scolding little kids on their join dates and making fun of people. So, you can’t have it both ways. If you’re going to be bitter and spiteful, please stop trying to act like you’re the victim and you’re the better man in this situation. Because you’re not. You’re a child who wanted to run the scene, and then when it didn’t go your way, you sit back do nothing and laugh afterwards.

So you really have two options here: You can apologize, straighten shit out, and have the possibility of working with TFNS in the future to do something that we both want: A bigger and brighter scene, or you can do what you always do, WANT it to fail and then laugh with your buddies afterwards in your EGC, and act all holy. Either way, we will be doing what we can to promote TFNS, and if you don’t want to help then so be it.

more ppl should read this post

this tournament is still too far from pickering. i am not pleased dice. why didn’t you consider myself, DG, and FatalDMG when choosing this location?

Heres the real big picture. You have a bunch of players (most of whom qualified) who are migrating to this venue if there are conflicting Pownz tournaments.

You could either

A) Be a dick and try to tell everybody that they’re wrong regardless of what they say
B) Or as Teddy pointed out you can be the bigger man and try to create a harmonious scene

Where is Pownz in all this? I’ll tell you the biggest frustration I have with Pownz is the total lack of communication they have with the community outside of Hamilton. (I can’t speak for their communication with Hamilton either actually I have no clue whats going on). I’ve waited to hear back on several front and I understand it’s a few people who are streched very thin and they are very busy. But on this note, you truly can’t expect people who are in Toronto to simply sit back and wait for Pownz to do everything. (Espescially when their timelines seem to be late several weeks to even months on things they have promised).

TELL US WHATS GOING. Can’t upload the video because you messed up the encoding? Let us know, if we’re constantly kept in the dark why wouldn’t the community who wants to grow not take matters into their own hands?

Sure exposure and all this sponsorship stuff is great. But there are peopel who’s first priority is to be the best. I was listening to an old Pyrolee Gootecks podcast and he said something to this effect. Basically evo doesn’t interest him. He wants to play in Japan to play/be the best player that he could be. No amount of money or youtube hits makes you a better player. As everyones gunning for recognigtion in this scene they should remember that.

I didn’t come into the scene to be a youtube star. I came in to be the best player I could be.

everyone has to start somewhere. better to have 45 scrubs join and a few of them start taking the game seriously than playing the same 10 people over and over again.

Now you’re just being ignorant.

We get 10 people on average at JS’ place at any given time. If you think there are only 10 players from sauga, toronto, vaughn then you’re gravely mistaken. Come to think of it, without sauga at pownz, you’ll be the one play the same 10 people over again.

You LIE! Who doesn’t want to be a youtube star?!

This post deserves a theme song.

Davero makes a very good point about how most ppl just wanna improve/be the best. When you have local comp consisting of a group of skilled group of guys that you like (prolly friends with) and meeting up is easy and conveniant, then it’s very hard to draw these ppl to a location like POWNZ because they get the same comp at home and they don’t have to go out of their way to get it. This isn’t like the 90’s where travelling to another city was mandatory in order to experience higher level play. This is Toronto we’re talking about, which has some of the best players in the GTA.

Now, about the whole division deal, I don’t think having a readily accessible Toronto SF hotspot is dividing at all. In fact, it allows the Toronto guys to level up, get better, and possibly attract new local comp. This actually improves the scene skillwise and at the same time grows it (which is also a key ingredient in having a stronger scene, cause more people = more comp = more variety of play = more adapting = getting better).

Despite POWNZ being a good thing for some players, let’s keep in mind that it is a business, and a business is there to make money. Can it cater to the players and make them wanna come more or more importantly bring in new ppl? Yeah, but remember, unlike unconditional love from your mom or whatnot, POWNZ attracting and “unifying” players is a means to an end, which is to make more money. Let’s not BS around this fact, cause it is a FACT.

In conclusion, I’d like to say that this debate reminds me of the rebel forces vs the Empire in Star Wars. You got Dice01 aka Luke Skywalker and EX_Matt aka Han Solo and Davero aka Chewy vs Nagata Lock II aka Darth Vader and then the guy who owns POWNZ aka The Emperor. The rebel forces want freedom and don’t want their local scene to be meddled with, and the Empire wants to unify all and that means everyone going to POWNZ. Ok, so it’s not that dramatic, but still there are some parallels to be drawn.

Bottom line, let ppl do what they want, freedom is the fundamental human need, and ppl are gonna play where they wanna play.

and mihai is an ewok mirite

ok, the people who matter have talked and sorted things out in private, everybody is happy, let’s move on and hope the launch day is successful for both parties.
