I think there should be some for sure dates that tournaments are going to happen in Texas. Make sure they’re spread out like every other weekend so you’re not traveling out of town every weekend for a video game tournament. (ex dec 13, jan 10, jan 24)
Then everyone, with their egos aside, figure out the dates that each city gets. Then we’ll have a set schedule of all the upcoming tournaments in Texas and each city will support each cities’ tournament.
The goal should be to make it as convenient as possible for the mass of players from each city to travel to each tournament without having to miss out b/c they just spent money the weekend before on traveling to a different tourney or b/c they can’t find a ride two weekends in a row, or their job won’t let them off two weekends in a row.
Then eventually a list could even be put together on who can house who in each city so we don’t have to spend much to sleep.
Planning for the houston tournament has been in the works for a while
and when they finally met with the owner of the venue it turned out that it was the only date available.
Sorry for conflicting whit the ccs plan but we havent had a decent tourny in houston for a while beside trashday.
Were just trying to bring houston back.
But we should definitely work schedules out for future events.
thats sounds great in theory, but its hard to not get any overlapping dates. If the other promoters are anything like me, they dont do this as a job. so just like its hard to arrange one’s schedule, around work and personal dates, to attend the events, its hard to find the time to set them up. We should set up a giant list of things going down in the area and let the mass figure out what they want to do, but so far we have done a good job of not getting in the way of one another, i would like to see more support of other tournys for other cities. any thoughts?
Just to make things a little easier for every one to find info, I can deidcate a web page on my site to tournaments every month. It will be organized by month/area/date. this will make all the info easy to find instead of crawling through pages and posts on a forum. of course there will be a link to the forum with additional information. the webpage is just a lisitng and will only have key information. Name of event, Location, date, and a link to more info or an email. this should make planning easyer for every one. I will post the new listing every 1st of the month and will allow late entries to be added only that first week. If any one has any more ideas, just send me a PM. here is the website, check back later or RSS through my forum to get an update. www.omnicononline.com
This sounds like a good idea. It gives a chance to let other tournament organizers know if there will be a conflicting date like the example given in the first post.
Anyway Dallas has a tourney planned for 1/10/2008 or 1/17/2008. Trying to finalize on 1/17/2008. Hopefully we can secure everything by next week.
I might be down to go,I haven’t been to dallas in a while and also the gas is cheap but if i do go i probably take plane and isn’t the 10 and 17 on like a weekday or something
Well, me personally, (if I was a tourny organizer) think it would be rather annoying to read through an entire thread to see if a date has been selected. (or just to see if it’s competing with something big the week before or after) This thread will grow over time. People post big tournies months in advance. You’ll end up with a clusterfuck of dates.
I think you should use your initial post as check up point. Example, list all the tournies and dates in chronological order. Once that date has passed, remove the tourny. For an example, I’ll just make up random tournies and dates:
March 16th, Saturday:
Battle at the Border XI
Harlingen TX
March 23rd, Saturday:
Houston Hype!
Houston TX
April 6th, Saturday:
Let’s play: Mall brawl
Harlingen TX
April 13th, Saturday:
Dudley does Dallas!
Dallas TX
Something like that. This way people don’t have to surf the entire thread for to check on date. Just because somebody posts after you, doesn’t mean their tourny is further out. You’ll just end up with tourny dates in no order, spread throughout the entire thread. So by organizing in chronologically in your initial post, really helps out and makes it efficient for other tournament organizers to check on dates. The thing is, you have to be up to the task of updating the thread whenever somebody posts a new tourny in the thread. Make a suggestion in your initial post that people should post AND also PM you the tourny info. This will assure it’s updated promptly. If you want to take it an extra step and earn a gold star lol, you could post the link to the advertised tourny under the city for each tournament. I know I’m kind of throwing alot at you here, lol, but I’m sure it would be greately appreciated by the community.
I was actually gonna make the same thread awhile back but got busy and forgot.
Anybody know if Trashday has a tentative date yet? I need to start planning for Battle at the Border 3 which will more then likely happen in April or May but I need to work around Trashday so I don’t run into the same weekend or the weeks surrounding it.
