oklahomas there man!
hopefully

Thinking about maybe doing a Team event in addition to the team tournies that everybody always seems to want. Possibly thinking about a 5 man exhibition type event but would involve multiple games, not just one.

ranma is there any word on a3?

Houston vs. The World MvC2 5 on 5!

We should do that Houston Versus some State at TS5, Have a round robin to see who get’s to be in those five spots.

Alpha 3 will definitely be at TS5, the reason will soon be reveiled.

heh… thats an uphill battle.

I think ill practice for this event this time

we woulda try to run a3 even without your precious japs lay =P last years turn out had lots of top american players… but since we are on the topic will it be supergun or arcade or what?

I’m a big fan of Alpha3, don’t get me wrong. The most ideal set-up would be Arcade dual cabinet American/Japanese. Texas Showdown thread and website going up soon. Looking forward to it let the party begin

does sg still have a a3 board even?

haw haw watch me choke while playing ggxx#R…i probly will this time, i just have that feeling

hey i will too… dont worry. its like me to mess up everything when playing in tournament

TS5!! Woot!

I wrote a detailed post, but decided to summarize.

TS5’s is much like #Riot 1 in October, and I wouldn’t run it the same way again. 4 Round Robin pools sound too big (4 pools of 15 people or more), will be frustrating to run, and have too many “random” complaints.
IMO, Double Elimination brackets are a must in big tournaments. A bracket format adds to the seriousness of the tournament. A big round robin starts to lose its flare midway through.
I like Evolution’s format the best (pools, double elim, final 8).

Notes:

  • TS5 will have around 10 TVs stated from Ranma.
  • MvC2 is on arcade cabinets

I suggest:

  • Smaller pools (8-10 people) 2/3 sets except for CvS2 1/1
  • Double Elimination Bracket 2/3 sets - Also, gives way for emergency rollover to Sunday
  • Final 8 - kept or new records

I’m not trying to decide what the format should be, just merely stating my opinion. I too want TS5 to be the best tournament that Houston has ever had and one that everyone will remember. I just think it’d be best if we work the kinks out before the time comes. If its too late to change the format since its been posted, then oh well.

I agree with vig, 20 man round robin pools at first sounds awesome. But I can imagine all the time and resources a 20 man round robin pool would consume. The evolution format was definitely the best imho. A combination of semi-mini pools (10 man or less), double elim and grand finals offers less demand on resources and more versatility for players. If Texas Showdown went ahead with the 20 man round robin then a good guess would be that all the set-ups at the moment would be occupied by tournament play leaving more then 75% of the people with nothing much to do.
