Terrible episodes of great shows

Just about every long-running or critically acclaimed show has at least one major stinker in its run. It’s just inevitable when you have so many episodes, some of them are gonna be duds. Sometimes, these episodes can be just as well-known as the great episodes.

I’ll start with Code of Honor from TNG. Everything, from the racist undertones thanks to the baffling decision to make the actors playing a primitive alien race who lust after strong women black to the terrible fight scene makes me wonder how anybody involved thought this episode was a good idea.

Most of the people who felt it was a bad idea keep their mouths shut as they still wanted their paychecks or got gaslit into following along. It’s the kind of thing that you would find in the TOS, and there several episodes like this. Not that it was right in the 1960s, but TOS was a product of a different era. But in the TNG it was obviously bad.

One of the biggest criticisms of early TNG was that it felt too much like TOS 2.0.

Yeah that was the case, and you had Roddenbery at the helm still which he only wanted to do this his way even if it made no sense to everyone else. We would not have DS9 if Roddenbery was still around.

In a lot of ways DS9 isn’t very Star Trek for better and for worse.

Tng>Stargate sg1>Babylon 5

What I like about Babylon 5 is the Human ship designs are very grounded in real science till the last season. But half the alien ships are odd looking and the CGI didnt age well.

prefer early seasons to the later seasons.

DS9 is the reverse, Where Sisco had hair the episodes are meh, when Sisco went bald and grew a beard the episodes got better.

TNG is very hit or miss with Best of Both Worlds being its peak

Hmmm.

A Cricket’s Tale in Its Always Sunny comes to mind. Probably the only episode of the entire show that I can honestly say I didn’t really like.

When they shift focus off the gang, it’s bad enough, but keeping an entire episode pretty much devoid of them was kinda painstaking to watch. I don’t even dislike Rickey Cricket’s character, quite the opposite actually, but it’s kind of just a boring side story. I skip over it every time I re-watch the series.

Three words.

The Great Divide

That was the shits

A good bad episode was the pov frank one

I liked 3 episodes of workaholics. The high school reunion. The wrestling party. And the drug test one. Every other episode was like an experiment to get me to change the channel

The writer of Code of Honor wrote Emancipation for Stargate SG1, and guess what? That episode also has racist undertones.

Calling the show great of be a stretch but any episode of CSI that tackled a subculture is instant garbage.

Same with Law and Order. Any time they cover a sub culture they blow it way out of proportion or something.

I feel CSI is garbage anyways, so many mistrials happen because people confuse CSI for real life.
Plus the fact they got to hollywood everything breaks my immersion in the show.
NCIS goes double, as its worst than CSI in my mind. Only Character that’s even probable in that show is Leroy Jethro Gibbs, Ducky gets a pass but everyone else is absolute bull shit. Especially Abby, Ziva and DiNozzo. Abby would never got hired looking the way she did, Ziva would not be allowed anywhere near NCIS as shes a foreign agent (and automatically considered a security risk), and DiNozzo use of Firefighter terminology in a group that supposed to be staffed by mostly Marines is infuriating. No one uses the term Proby as the NCIS don’t have Probationary Agents.

Law and Order’s gaming episodes are horrid. Ice T is setup as the in the know guy and his takes are clearly clueless.
