Dear God, please don’t bring this type of conversation or comparison up again. It polarizes everyone who doesn’t play BOTH games at a competitive level, and it’s obvious that very few people are willing to do that, whether they be Tekken or SF players. It’s just going to start stupid controversy that keeps players on either side of the fence from trying and playing the other one. Example:
I believe he was referring to competitive play, not people who button mash. The “basics” in competitive Tekken play, even when you’ve only played a week, include spacing, sidestepping, throw-breaking, and juggling, all 4 of which no one here in Mid TN has learned correctly. There’s no one here in MidTN that took the time to learn proper backdashing or even simple backdashing that moves them away, they just say “It’s too hard lololol” Next, YOU DO NOT HAVE TO LEARN OR UNDERSTAND FRAME DATA. Just like someone knows he/she can punish a Juri divekick or a Bison cr.rh with cr.mp or cr.mk in whatever situation, you can learn Tekken the EXACT same way. You don’t need to know numbers! Anakin is the best example of this–considered probably the most difficult to beat player in the States and knows NO FRAME DATA. ZERO. I swear he doesn’t even know a common jab is 10 frames.
And the execution difference between the games is irrelevant. Most people can’t even touch Viper’s required execution in SF4, but she’s brought up as an example for some reason. I wouldn’t bring up Nina’s combos as an example – knowing I’m probably the only one in all of TN who can do them makes them irrelevant to the topic. Hell, it takes some people a damn hour to learn how to perform a “while rising” move in Tekken. Just let go of the stick/pad and hit a button before you stand up. That’s just like I couldn’t even do a super from P1 side in 3S right off the bat cuz I kept letting go of the stick instead of grinding it into the corner. And that’s not a comparison, more like a “There are too many variables to consider one harder than another.” when it comes to execution.
…
In general, I’ve found people who view themselves as “elite” in Tekken say that it’s “hard” in order to boast on themselves, raise themselves up, or make it a challenge to newcomers. On the other hand, newbies will say it’s hard because they don’t want to put time into it. None of it is really THAT damn hard in either game; you just can’t have one game’s mentality and try to apply it to another game right off the bat. Anyone in SF4 who says “Viper is hard” can be told “OK, if your execution is good, go do this in Tekken” and anyone in Tekken who says “Nina is hard” can be told “OK, go do this in SF4.”
(and Jason, I know you weren’t the one to bring this up lolol, so don’t feel like I’m directing it at you. Just trying to kill the discussion cuz it’s useless and counterproductive from every angle. I would also point out that the dominant controller in the USA for Tekken is ps2/ps3 pad while SF4 is stick… just makes the comparison that much more retarded to make)
