Meh, learning Dhalsim was a long and painful process. But, I’d probably never have actually done it if I didn’t just do it.
Yeah man. I’m not just saying this because I play Akuma, because I’m ass with him and I wish I didn’t play him, but Akuma is easily top 3 hardest characters in the game IMO. He’s extremely technical, as in you have to know every little thing about the game engine and each character. You have to know how to do option selects, how they work, how shortcuts work… You have to know how fast each character wakes up, the frame data on all of their moves, as well as frame data on your throws, jumps, normals, specials etc. You have to have character specific midscreen and corner set ups. We’re talking like 5-6 for each character for corner and mid. Akuma is an all training mode character. Outside of training mode focus on reactions like Dping every jump, hitting sweep at the tippy tip of the hitbox, learn to frame trap and use kara throw, and zone safely. Everything else is training mode. You have to have very ‘clean’ execution with him, and play like you have 10,000 health all of the time in most matches. Just pure confidence and no mistakes.
I’ve heard tons of top players that are quite good with Akuma say they won’t make him their main because he’s too technical. I’ve seen Akuma players carry around charts on their iphones and shit with all of their set ups for each character. Once you’re good with him, he’s obviously a monster… but until then it will suck. It is pretty easy to lose to to random shit as it is, even when you’re good. Akuma is a nightmare for me. I’m just not good enough for this faggot. I’m hoping Seth works out, because he’s way easier.
Damn I’m late to the party! LOL! Sorry but i’ve been caught up with a lot of other personal shit to have time to get on here to post but GG’s to all i played in nashville this past weekend and great job to richard and chris for running the tourney as smooth as they were able to. Wish i coulda stay for grand finals but we had to go get a hotel room and pizza!
You know if i had been there GA would have been singing a different tune. I swear some ppl should never be allowed to shit talk ever! It’s like a lot of stream monsters and ppl that go to tourneys don’t even realize just how terrible some of this so called hype/shit talk really is. That’s why i’m so glad i have my own flavor of hype talk. i would never purposely disrespect anyone unless of course they are being a dick but i will shit talk sure but in a creative yet funny way. They just salty because papa smurf rammed that big blue fist all up in that ass crack. Don’t worry Lee i’ll be in your corner at fr to support u and make sure no asshole gets out of line cause i already know GA is gonna come at you after this, especially being their home turf and all. I get the feeling i’m going to make a nice change in side bets that weekend lol!
Gg’s to all last night on that Kang! I feel that I improved a great deal over the weekend and all my sets were hella fun last night.
Josh, you know i play low tiers so don’t hate on yuri and mai lol!
justin, you just suck, go back to big lots for training lol!
Marcus, i need to play you more so i can level up. fuck yo neomax! Also any tips/advice after playing me last night would be much appreciated.
Kinetik, Gg’s dude and learn some basic combos. athena has some dumb combos from full screen lol
Sev, ya man tomorrow we’ll play, i wanna see how i do vs you this time around
Abe, we have to play next time for sure. and run kof,sf,marvel in that order at the tourney. trust me it will be better ran that way and the stream monsters will be more pleased with watching marvel last plus it gives me time to make it out to commentate since i’ll have to work that day.
flymike, lmao!!! smh, you do realize that if the next few times we play kang it turns out anything like last night i will own your soul right?
Also special shout out to Shawn for the compliment on shit talk lol I’ll do my best to continue to entertain everyone
…like what? I can’t think of anything from fullscreen besides catching a big jump with neomax.
And trust me I know combos but I can never do them in a real match. I’m just trying to get hits in while I can.
Aww snap! We in there then.
Good games to all the folks last night. Shot out to Anthony for polishing my SF skills again. Sev… your day is comming.
Ok guys, I’ve been tossing this idea around Josh and Jas for a while now and I’m gonna ask the rest of you KoF enthusiasts to help a nugget out. I figure the only way to get each of my characters up to par is to get more experience with each individual character, so I need yall to play a bunch of 1 on 1 matches with me. Personally I think my Liz needs the most work so I’ll be training her 1st. Whaddaya say?
This appears to be the Japanese youtube channel for SNKPlaymore, they’ve been updating with some really nice play that appears to be pretty advanced. Something to check out if you are looking for new KOF videos:
Edit: @ Justin, I’m down for 1 on 1 matches, personally I need to work on Joe, Duo Lon, Goro…pretty much all my characters, but I’ll start with Joe.
Arson: What you just said about needing to know all this specific ass stuff could really be said for anyone. Jason doesn’t know shit about frame data (or at least that’s what he says) and he can play with most of the cast which is more about solid play than anything. Do the stuff that works like the vortex and space well and you will be fine. Fundamentals make you capable of playing with any character once you gain experience a little bit of training mode. Besides, execution wise Seth is about the same and if you think losing to “random shit” (which is a player not blocking something) is frustrating with Akuma, what happens with less health and less stun Seth? Just takes the lumps like Shawn mentioned if Akuma is the character you really want to stick with.
Athena can drive cancel first hit of Psycho Sword to EX Psycho Ball and do whatever she wants from there.
So on Tuesdays at GG what do you guys usually play? I’ve got this coming tuesday off and I might head up there as well. Even if it"s mostly KOF I might still come up just to get a chance to see what it’s like.
Anyone see that tier chart for KOF floating around? All I can say is DAMN.
Tuesday will be the best day to come through as that’s our unofficial fight night. Should be someone there that can keep the place open later.
HOPE YOU LIKE KOF!
SF and KoF. Lately there have been more KoF setups but we can get more AE going if you are down.
Sounds like you’re yelling at me Yea I remember you telling me about learning Ryu before going any further with Akuma. I’ll give it a shot and see how it goes. If only I could get wins by playing a basic Akuma. I just wish there were more characters I like in SF so I could actually main someone else. Too bad I hate charge characters.
I knew Akuma was gonna be super technical when I saw the sticky threads in the Akuma section on SRK especially the match up thread. I thought about writing notes down in my iphone and using them while playing especially in a tourney setting where I will face any type of characters. There is just too much to learn about Akuma for someone like me who has been playing for less than 6 months. This is why there are so few American Akuma players due to his heavy execution to be really good with him. He is fun to play but just a complete nightmare when trying to actually play to win.
Worst case scenario, I’ll just learn the match up for Rose, Sagat, Cammy, Chun, Abel, Gen, Cody, Adon, Bison, Ryu, and Ken and be content with just that.
You better have this shirt next time I see you. You’re the only one that uses that move. LOL
Pretty much that whole post was talking about vortex, which is where the hours and hours of training mode and all of that shit I said come in, and pretty much what makes Akuma so hard. Also, I said getting hit by random shit is harder early on. Seth having less life doesn’t matter because his offense is stronger overall. He can be scarier in more situations and his execution is easier IMO. With Akuma you play like a robot when it comes to mix ups and vortex. This happened so I do this, with machine-like precision or I’m going to get hit or it won’t work. Seth’s mix ups are much more creative and organic. You can just go nuts with him and people are scared to do shit because Seth is so hard to stop you’re so scared of his options.
The only really hard part about Seth’s execution is not getting shortcuts. LOL. Yes, every character takes knowledge and training, I’m saying Akuma specifically relies much less on fundamentals and solid play and more on your execution, knowledge and time spent in training mode. As far as me complaining, I’ve already taken my lumps. Its been since August of 09. I’ve been playing Akuma forever and never done that great with him. I go through cycles of doing mediocre and then just going 1-2. Since last sat. I’m just trying to take the Japanese method of playing constantly in order to get better, which seems to be helping. Only problem being I want to play KOF.
Just ordered the “Busta Wolf” and “Psycho Crusher” jams from Eternal Rival. I love those guys. Lot of transparency with their processes and customer service seems to be on point. I’ll be making more purchases with certainty.
I am down to help with this if you like.
Also tier list?
Anybody wanna host tonight? I keep missing fight night because of work. And last one I was at, there was nobody there. I’m off today and wanna play!
Don’t be so hard on yourself you’re not bad. Honestly, you were the best player I played against in casuals at RCR. But like you said with Akuma you can’t really fuck up. Only real flaw I see is sometimes you try to force your way in when you don’t need to or when you can get hit by something but I do the same thing too.
Dude I sent this to you on AIM earlier, here you go again: Warning, GINORMOUS LINK AHEAD.
