did anybody happen to pick up my game case at a recent fight night? it has all my ps3 fighting games and a copy of portal 2 in it. I can’t find it anywhere…
For Sev and FlyMike
VF Launch Pre-Launch Party stream. This is the whole stream, not just the Chibita/Fuudo highlight.
Yeah that’s a good idea actually. I’ll try that next time.
I’ll try to catch some of it when I get off if I go home.
But I kinda don’t wanna watch it. High-level VF is so crunk when you understand it a bit. I don’t wanna get hype and end up putting more time in it than I intend to. Watching japs will have you grinding on those games. Then you realize that you’re in Memphis. And Quest mode gets so lonely afterawhile.
But at least you X-Cocks got online with Version C. Decent online. And always solid players on…
Welcome to grappler-user hell. You can beat some very good players, but they will credit it to the character and not your skills. It has happened to me in Blazblue, Marvel, and SC5. Just ignore the salt.
Yeah, from what I understand the 360 online is really solid for the VF5 series so far. Main issue is time and character choice. I am liking what I’m hearing, esp when the commentators say that due to the new system changes, yomi, timing and spacing are much bigger factors than straight execution. Which is music to my ears.
One example being that because MTE is gone, you have to again, know your opponent and what throws he favors, instead of just doing a EMTEG, you only do ETEG and hope you read the throw right. Or duck.
How about banning the game altogether?
I wish I was joking, but I can’t do it anymore. Like when I see FlyMike playing Tekken 6 and want to troll him and tell him “hey shouldn’t there be a Street Fightet x in front of that?” But a strong conviction consumes my body as I prepare to send the message. Like if I send it, hell will open her mouth and consume me for such a vile offence.
But yea anyways, Jose you probably shouldn’t even waste your time on the game at this point. Maybe when they actually release the final game instead of that $60 beta we got it will be tourney worthy be until then…
I would say either play with an unpatched version of the game or just not run SFXT.
Wasn’t there a really good Tekken scene here? Like one of the best in the country? That could definitely happen for VF
Ivan, there IS a very good Tekk scene here. However the way it works is different and all I’ll say is that that particular subject has been discussed quite a bit behind the scenes etc. There’s a lot more to it than just that.
Having said that, I’m getting quite excited about VFFS myself, I think it has definite potential to be the new single-char 3d FG standard, as Tag2 is gonna cover the team aspect. I’ve been reading up quite a bit and strangely, this is looking like the most accessible VF yet. There has been a change of focus in the overall metagame that favors fundamentals, adaptation and yomi over some of the more execution-based challenges from earlier versions.
I’d go more in depth, but I dunno that the interest is there quite yet lol.
@ Abe: Something to make the game friendlier and more accessible. Wasn’t a bad move, but was definitely mixed feelings on it from players. Obviously I suck at grab-breaking, but I was practicing it a bit for whenever I played Rell, Bishop, Terrence, and the CPU, and you can imagine where it gets funky. First you have to recognize you’re getting grabbed and react (This is Tekken). Then it went a step further by the MTEs. And even the fastest buffering only allows you to input 3.
How it is now with complete guessing just makes it like SC. And not scrubbier or random because it does emphasizes reads more. So now the entire game is pretty much about reads. They got some fancy word for that but I don’t remember what it’s called. Where you’re almost exclusively fighting the player himself.
And it does have some little execution stuff. Especially with certain characters, and definitely Akira. That’s why it’s the only 3D game I gotta use stick for. Not that I’m any better on stick. But because inputting and buffering solid directions in succession is easier on my wrists than these fat ass nubs I have lol. But everybody else who plays it here uses pad, even Bishop. Playing GG and working at Fed developed very rare and unique calluses for them.
@ Gabe: Yea you were on your last legs. One more mention of that shit in the presence of sacred games, and I fear you would’ve got struck down right where you stand. Fat Megamans floating and characters not being able to use staple MOVES, the world is coming to an end soon. It’s good that you somewhat repented when you did.
I really don’t understand VF hype. It looks like a poor man’s Tekken to me.
@ Kin: In Memphis? Nah that was GG with the whole entire scene of bosses. Tekken just had players. Rell and Mick notably. Big Jio too I guess until he moved to Knox. And just a tough crowd in older games. Then when Marcus was making a name for himself in T6, he quit playing the game be a UFC fighter.
Btw, VF will never have a real scene or be on that level here. Hell no. Tekken isn’t even at that point here. And say you remove like…all those players. Then you’d have everyone else here who’d have to just get acquainted with 3D games in general. Way more success to be had for everyone here in Tekken. And mainly because, where the fuck is anyone going to go to compete in VF? Lolol some of you guys don’t know but this IS why I’m playing Tekken. I used to be a casual VF junkie. But how was that even possible when theres no one to play?
@ Lee: Haha it’s not. Visually, I totally understand that people’s eyes aren’t trained for what goes on. It’s more acquired taste. But once you step in and if you comprehend it, it’s poetry. But even at low level Tekken has sparks and cool shit. VF at low level looks like “cool shit”. Meaning poo that has been on the ground too long and dried up.
The hype is because it’s a “new game”. It’s genuine interest and love from the actual players and some passerbys who dabble in each game. But fully expect 91% of the newer players to customize characters and quit.
Yea see that’s the problem right there. I much rather ban the character. Decisions, decision lol
Also removing sfxt from the list would be a tad extreme don’t ya think? I would be all up for it hell and add a different game to the list but at this point with MBB being so close by i just don’t know. Fucking capcom always fucking up!
I say we remove sfxt off the list and add hungry hungry hippos to the list instead
@Mike: I’m glad you mentioned SC in that statement. I can agree with that. However as a Astaroth player in SCV, I can assure you that folks broke a lot more of my throws then I’d have liked, especially once they figured out which throws I was more likely to go for midscreen, near the wall, back to the wall, etc. So if that’s closer to how it feels now then I’m quite ok with that.
Now, before FS you could buffer 3 MTE. 3 buffers covers 3/5 of the possible options, so essentially you have a 66% chance to break the grab. And this doesn’t even count fuzzy guard. I can see how that could make throw game kinda weak if you relied on it, so again, I’m ok with the removal of MTE. Fuzzy guard/duck is still an option.
And yes, I know that Akira does have exec based stuff, and I’m sure that several others do as well. What the consensus is showing though, is that overall the game is less dependent on high exec, which as a scrubby masher, I’m all for that.
As for fighting “the player”, that’s a good thing I thought? Like you said, players make the tiers. That is awesome in my book.
@Lee:, Try Wolf. Hell you can even customize him to look like Rock from SC. Do that, land a few burning hammers for 50% damage per throw and a couple GS’s and I think you’ll feel right at home.
@ Abe: VF won’t be a single 3D standard over Tag2. That doesn’t even exist really, people don’t necessarily think like that when it comes to 3D games. Even so, SCV isn’t going anywhere from where it is right now. It’s in a ok place, could be better. But could also be where SCIV was around this same time. And you’d even have that new DoA game get more burn in the states than VF. As it always has.
Game is great. Optimism is great. And new players WILL play anything for a split second. But, wishful thinking if it ever was. You couldn’t even get longtime active fg players on board for the ride. So yea. I expect a little more exposure and dabbling than VF4/VF5 had here. And I’m talking about small community streams and sidetournies at big majors. But that’s it. And notice I said SIDE-tournies…
If we could somehow stream that with you commentating my life would be complete.
IN YO MOUFF
Yeah, when I saw it being projected at Final Round, I asked Woot “Who made a 3-D Mugen and why are they showing it?” It just looked bad.

I dunno I thought this was pretty fun to watch

I didn’t see the whole thing but there were some clutch moments around the 13:00 mark
