So I just read the Official UMVC3 Change Log for the Marvel side and it looks pretty good to me. All of the changes appear to make sense and that they will actually matter during gameplay. I think Doom is definitely the best Vanilla Marvel character now and Captain America is really going to be good. She-Hulk’s nerfs don’t really hurt her at all imo and those buffs make her look like she got more better than worse. Spider-Man’s changes seem promising too but I wont be able to say whether they will make him worth playing or not until I get to play Ultimate. I’ll definitely give him a shot though. I want to play my favorite super hero in at least 1 of these damn vs games.
Still not understanding the Doom buffs. He was a solid character in vanilla, and if anything, I expected him to be slightly nerfed.
The Hulk buffs are really promising. Less charge time for waves. Wallbounces on two moves. Air x-factor allows for two Gamma Crushes in one combo (probably killing any character instantly).
Doom definitely NEEDED some buffs imo(like more damage and less recovery on photon array) but not to the degree that he got. He’s gonna be a monster now. Oh and screw Hulk! That overpowered, 1 button only needin…NERF HIM!!! NERF!!! Nah but his buffs definitely look like they will make him more fun to play. Too bad Im not a Hulk fan.
It was Doom’s ridiculous assists that I expected to be nerfed. Plasma beam had too much durability AND came out instantly. Missiles are annoying, but you bait those. Molecular shield was far better than people gave it credit for. As for his damage on point, the corner combos was where he drew blood. Gaining three bars and ending in upshot rainbow of death was nothing to scoff at. Footdive pressure was already good too.
Maybe Hulk isn’t going to be a 1-button whore after these buffs. Who am I kidding… ST.H ALL DAY!!!
Oh, and Deadpool cancelling everything inteleports is going to be annoying. Gunshot startup cancel teleport will be stupid.
Although I agree with everything you said, Im pretty sure your respect for Doom comes from you playing that matchup with Hulk. It’s annoying dealing with Doom with She-Hulk who has WAY more mobility than Hulk so I can only imagine not being able to move around well PLUS being a big ass target.
Deadpool would be top tier if he didn’t blow himself up after 3 teleports. His mixups would be unblockable. LOL! Thinking about it now, Deadpool along with every other character with sold zoning tools got a HUGE buff when they made characters unable to block while air dashing.
Think I’m just gonna be playing mainly Guy in SF4 from now on unless I go to a tournament. People give me shit for playing an easy character, well FUCK YOU just wait till I get my combos down…
Seriously dude, fuck what these folks talkin bout. If you like Bison then play Bison. You’re gonna make yourself worse trying to prove something that you don’t have to. People giving you shit should motivate you to whoop their asses even more. Also, the scene in general will benefit way more from Bison then Guy.
I see what you’re saying but honestly I’m pretty bored of Bison now, have been for like a couple months. He’s still my best character but I don’t think I learn much playing him nowadays and doing so makes my footsie game worse cause Bison lets you play in a way where you can avoid footsies (at least “traditional” footsies). This became obvious when I started playing shotos and had no idea wtf I was doing midrange.
I don’t think the scene would benefit much from me playing Bison…we already have a better one (Woot) plus everyone plays/played him and everyone knows the matchup. Who knows the Guy matchup? Not many I would think.
Having no idea what to do midrange against shotos means that there is still work to be done with your Bison. Ive been in your position before, feeling like I wasn’t learning much with my character but when you feel that way it means it’s time to polish up. Work on you matchups, execution, spacing. There are a TON of things to work on. I would also use Woot’s presence as the best Bison here as motivation to step your Bison game up. Get better and take his place. Guy may be fun now because he’s fresh and new but as soon as he gets boring or you get frustrated from lack of victories you’ll be looking back at Bison.
Oh, look! Here’s a fun fact: Bishop and Sev both play(ed) Guy. So does Mekkanic in Nashville (who’s Guy was actually pretty decent last time I played him) … If you’re looking to pick a character that Memphis doesn’t have so the scene would benefit, choose Rufus, or Viper, or Fei, or Fuerte, etc … I’ve run into those characters more at tournaments than any other … And we don’t have a serious player for ANY of them …
Also, +1 on Bishop’s post above … I’ve been there too, lots of times … Just keep pushing is all you can do …
Kinetic: Squab/Bishop are pretty much right. We have gotten decent match up experience against above average Guy’s so some people here have a really good idea how to fight him. So it def wont be new. Also if your most worried about playing someone to help the scene RUFUS my god this guy is so boss and we have never had a for real Rufus player (Jas you dont count homie). All that being said if you just want to play someone else go for it. I mained Gen for like a year and did ok really enjoyed it since he was so different from Able. Also just FYI Guy has way harder to use footsie than Bison.
