Tennessee Thread - How Do You Eat a Fart?

He called Batman a furry, your dead to me. Also I don’t buy games by reviews I truely think Batman:AA was a great game I think many people would agree with that. Batman:AC I’m expecting another great experience.

JAX GON’ GIVE IT TO YA

It’s awesome how so many different characters are viable in MK9. I also saw a Freddy player made the top 8.

The best Batman was on NES. Jas knows what I’m talking about.

On the whole DLC argument … The only games I’ve bought DLC for were Mass Effect (1 & 2) and SFIV. I don’t believe Mass Effect’s DLC was planned from the beginning (outside of maybe some of the armor upgrades - which in turn is like the horse armor example). It really does seem that nowadays the developers want to add more shit than they can fit on a disc, so instead of trimming a game, they basically just say “fuck it, throw it as DLC, people will buy it”. Now, whether that’s true or not, I don’t know. But there are SOME instances where I think they do it intentionally trim a disc for no reason and put certain elements as DLC strictly for the money - I mean, realistically why WOULDN’T you at this point? DLC is the super hot buzz word right now and it’s making a killing.

I hadn’t bought a new game since MVC3 (or AE if you want to count that) because everything on the market right now is just dry. There really isn’t anything that grasps my interest. Everything is either a sequel, re-boot, or just another FPS. However, Dark Souls has managed to occupy me. But it really does seem the days of new, innovative games are over with. It’s just laziness IMO.

I don’t know, just my two cents.

This DLC stuff wouldn’t even be agrument if it was handles the same on console as it was on PC. A lot of DLC you pay for on consoles is free on PC, it’s just MS and Sony are greedy so they want you to pay for it. I’ve read many a story of developers wanting to do free DLC for consoles, but MS wouldn’t let them so they were forced to charge for it.

There’s a reason why Batman: AA and AC are 8/9/10 and not just an “ok” game. It’s a complete package that you’re completely overlooking.

  1. The writing is done by Paul Dini (one of the best Batman writers ever)
  2. It has fan service out the ass (whether that be playing as Nightwing, Robin, Catwoman or seeing a majority of the rogues)
  3. Batman’s search and fetch stuff is actually fun. I highly enjoyed finding everything in the game but mostly for the riddles. I 100%'d the game outside of the challenge maps.
  4. It’s the best Batman game in terms of movement, atmosphere, writing, and gameplay. No the NES one isn’t better.
  5. Presentation is fantastic (yeah the little stuff like how about all of the psychologist interviews between the doctor and the various rogues. Awesome, if you didn’t listen then you fail.)
  6. You wanted an in depth combat system? Why? X and Y are completely fine as long as the combos end differently or have various effects. Batman works inside the real world where multiple people attack him at once and he can’t force blast them out of the way or chuck them to the side. He doesn’t have powers. He does his Batman thing which works within this game because you feel like you’re playing Batman.
  7. It has stealth, action, and detective work. Batman staples.
  8. Mark Hamill is the Joker and Kevin Conroy is the Bat. If you don’t know about how good these voice actors are then you’re just not a fan. Many hail them as the best at either role even over the real life actors. It will also be their last reprisals as the characters as far as we know.
  9. Graphics are dope and now it’s an even larger world.
  10. If you’ve ever read Batman graphic novel/comic book. This is Gotham City, this is what it looks like.

I mean everybody acts like some company is gonna come out with the next game that nobody ever did. Revolutionary shit that makes you feel 7 again. Sorry, it’s all been done. Whether that be in film, novels, games, etc it’s all been done to death. The only thing you can do now is mash stuff together and present it well with good execution and solid ground work. Batman is the pinnacle of what it’s supposed to do in the genre it’s in. It’s the complete package.

9/10

Well to me you kind of want to average all of that out when talking about score. I mean I agree with you some aspects of the game are amazing (artistic vision ect) but I dont care how great the vision if the game is buggy to play that gets annoying and pulls you out of the experience. As good as some aspects of the game are there is no way it deserves an overall score above a 7 IMO

Batman hate itt

I never said the Batman games weren’t good. I was just saying lately, everything coming out is a re-boot, sequel, etc. But, I have to disagree that it’s “all been done”. I think developers and filmmakers are being lazy and just cashing in on the popularity of franchises, because right now, that seems to be where ALL the money is.

Just go browse through the Indie games on XBLA and tell me some of those aren’t fresh and new. I bet if you slapped a popular face on some of those games, they would sell like crazy.

Some counter points

Lets also not forget that AA had its share of issues
-No reason to ever turn off Bat Vision since it was so broken. And going around the whole game like that basically meant you missed the atmosphere and there was little in the way of you having to be smart and stealthy. You saw everyone through walls and around corners
-Outside the stuff with Scarecrow the boss battles were underwhelming and the Joker one was particularly bad in general and because of how it was outside Joker’s char. So this was bad for fans and non fans alike

And I enjoyed AA and have AC on pre order for pick up later today. I am a Batman fanboy but the chances of the new game actually being work an 8.5 or higher are slim. It will be another “good” batman game at best and there is nothing wrong with that.

I agree, pre-planned DLC is complete bullshit. “Here, take 95% of the game for full price, then pay us more for the aesthetic bullshit immediately afterwards!”

The ONLY way this shit can work in a decent manner, is if they start releasing games like that at half price. You don’t want to give me the full game? Then I don’t want to fucking pay for the full game. I’ll gladly play your less than complete game for ~$30-45, and then if you feel like making me pay for the remainder of the game from that point, I’ll consider buying it. IF I like what you have given me so far. But charging full price and then asking for MORE fucking money on top of that, for shit that should have been in on release at that price is bs. And everyone is doing it nowadays.

Space Marine did it right. They have the “premium online pass” thing for $10 if you buy the game used (comes free with new copies). BUT, if you don’t buy the premium pass you can still play it online as much as you damn well please, you just can’t unlock several aesthetic things, and a few perks. But it’s still BALANCED and you can play it like that if you want. But if you want to unlock shit and get further, then buy the pass. I have no problems with this, as if you buy it used the game company isn’t getting money off it, so this is a decent work around. But ONLY if it’s a fairly priced one, and you aren’t giving someone a half assed version of the game.

That last boss battle really let me down, man.

Jan: I know right even though I enjoyed the experience with the flaws that last fight started and I was like “are you serious!?” Terrible.

Don’t buy Batman and pick up a pacifier at Wal-mart instead.

Yeah Sev, I see what you’re saying about the Bat vision. I guess I just accepted it as such because that’s what Batman would have? He’s a billionaire who goes toe to toe with super heroes. But, within the context of AA where he’s just going against thugs maybe it would have been better if the Bat vision had a quickly depleting power bar? Or maybe just a heartbeat sensor so you would know somebody is on the other side of the wall but not who. Possibly different heart beats? Calm for paroling guards, upbeat for civilians in distress, upbeat for convicts who know you’re in their area.

I will say that the last boss fight was anticlimactic. They should have done some crazy ass battle between the two in a different sort of way. Not the deplete boss’s life sort of way but more along the lines of the Superman Returns game where something else is taking damage possible or Bats has to get to first. I would have liked to see Joker jack a helicopter trying to get away from the Asylum. Then Bats has to race to the top of that big ass tower where he uses that sniper harpoon gun from DKR to cling onto his helicopter from a distance and get pulled through the air.

After that your getting ripped around trying to hold on to the grappling wire while Harley is shooting down at you from the helicopter door while you’re doing some Shenmue button sensitive dodging. After that you kick Harley’s ass with a one a doner when you reach the door and then you have to have a close-quarters battle with the Joker. He’s trying to slip a knife between your ribs and you have to use the joysticks to pick quadrants and with either arm mixed in with some more Shenmue sequences. Then throw in some freestyle fighting such as Joker knocking you out and you have to grapple back to the copter as you plummet. Something done like that would have been cool to me as that’s how the battle would go down in the books.

The hard part about doing Batman/Joker in a game is that they don’t really battle each other. It’s more along the lines of Batman trying to stop the Joker from doing what he wants instead of Batman actually fighting Joker toe to toe.

Re: BatVision: Agreed it needed some kind of limitation. While Bats does battle all kinds of OP freaks not in the context of this game I am sure they fixed it for AC

Re: Final Battle: I think thats why people were so upset over it. Joker and Bats rarely duke it out, but the developers said fuck it either due to a time issue or being lazy and were like lets make it a fist fight with Joker powered up. Something like what you described would have been better if a bit heavy on the quick time dodging for me

Also I hope they fixed the enemy AI some as well. They had some stupid thugs in AA.

The batvision was the most annoying part of the first. It was like I don’t WANT it on because I want to actually see the world how it’s supposed to be seen, but if I turn it off I’m missing stuff. So you pretty much had to choose between getting the full effect of the graphics/atmosphere or the full effect of gameplay/hidden stuff/extras. Not a choice I want to make! I like how the new Deus Ex did it. Yeah, I had the aug to look through walls, but how many times did I actually use it in the game? Like 3. It was a completely unnecessary thing to have, but the option was there for the few times you felt like you might really need it.

you guys make me want to go buy both Batman games!!! Not really though.

I wish I had some time to play these games but sadly i dont. As far as DLC. I have to agree with Squabbles right now. It’s the new hot mess, so why not do it?

Arkham Asylum was “good” because it appealed to gamers who weren’t even fans of Batman. It drew them into the world of Batman, introduced them to the characters and setup. But it also had a dope presentation and the game was DARK. That’s what snagged people. The characters had so much flavor. The whole game had folks thinking Batman was way more “cooler” and badass all day than what it was, even though the novels and most of the comics are just as dark. But some people played AA then went and watched the new Cartoon and was like, “Wtf is this shit?”

Everyone feels the same way about Bat-vision in AA. I read an interview from Rocksteady early on about bat-vision in AC. They said they were going to give it some kind of drawback(can’t remember, I think it had something to do with the combat), so that you HAVE to complete the game without using it. This would make it balanced.

But fuck it, I’m gonna hate passing up on this one. AA was sick. But too many other games coming out anyway.

Also, about developers going past disc limit just to have reason for DLC. Actually…I don’t even think these games nowadays even fill up a good portion of the disc space. Maybe only for the graphics(Uncharted 2 really pushed it). But that’s it. Shit is so underwhelming these days, even the Future saga Ratchet and Clanks are so goddamn slim. Play the Ratchet and Clank games on PS2. Your head would explode thinking they must’ve used magic to fit so much shit in. And they didn’t even care if you discovered it all. No linearity to lead you to everything they put on disc. This goes for alot of older games. Current generation gets by on Trophies and Achievements. And maybe dudes nowadays just need to feel that sense of accomplishment. But it’s the most pointless shit to me. Motherfuckers that ask me to help them get trophies, I delete from my friendslist asap. Am I getting something for this? Not a big head mode or anything? Just another caption on my profile? I don’t have time for that dumb shit. Then there’s a fuckton of gamers who rate the quality of pocketrape DLC by if it has trophies or not. Pathetic.

Mike I getting Batman:AC on ps3 you can borrow it when I finish it. If you want?
