I think it’s time we invested in a “Fryer clean out rod” at the arcade. The revolution has begun.
He should have hit the white bitch too that was shrieking all over the place. Sometimes you just need to let shit be.

Crystal: I heard there were the usual bracket moving for late people and top players coming in late on certain games…so I guess it is a YMMV (Your mileage may vary) experience…
I get so sick of that. I’ve already ranted about it once, so I won’t go into it again. “Oh, you’re in top 16? Who would you like to play Mr. Wong/Viscant/F.Champ/etc.?” Reminds me of that video from last Final Round where Filipino Champ was bitching about fighting Ricky Ortiz in top 16. lol
I don’t understand why evo is scheduled so close to the 4th… Its going to make traveling just that much more difficult.
Seasons beatings did run pretty much on time, except for the final day.
It was the best organized major i’ve ever been to, but there was some weird stuff going on.
I got skipped in my AE pool after got my first lost. Guy running my pool said someone reported a win against me… but he had never called my match in the first place.
Also, the late pools had almost 2x as many people as the morning pools. I only had to win 4 matches to get out of my pool of 11 people in marvel. I know some of the later pools had 18-20 people in them because of all the moving.
Not only that it will increase the price of all flights since more are traveling and it will only go up so if your gonna go book early. Lycan and I were looking and it was like
-$504: Nonstop Mem to Vegas (This is like 100 more roughly than last time)
-$420: 1 stop Memphis to Dallas to Vegas
“I knew your pool was going to be easy”, only way Sparks made it out.
It’s the equivalent of telling a few people at your school but never getting word out to anyone else. They purposely don’t tell people. Not even an attempt to get the word out. I don’t know why they don’t, but they don’t
I came over…I want to come over more but you guys live about an hour away and i have problems getting ahold of Josh.
I am not anti-social. I just do not know where people live and i also have to work around my wife and child’s schedules. I really want to play and get good at playing the games i do play. I wish that people here would stay together. I had a MK9 scene going on where I go to school but it fell out as soon as people got back into their shooters and didn’t want to learn mechanics.
Tripp, you shouldn’t think comments about anti-social stuff is directed at you. This is an issue in Knoxville that goes back years before now
I do not think that it was solely aimed at me. I was just stating that i was not anti-social. I really wished that i could just get out and play. I sadly live in the middle of nowhere and need to get out into a bigger area.
for Dream this is from Fubarducks twitter about the 2012 AE update for arcades
“So SSF4:AE 2012 update is free for arcades too (thank the stars) but its being distributed via the NESys network. How the heck do we get it!”
also the update comes Dec 2nd for arcade the 13th for console
Basically this. The tournament was run smoothly. I was just dumbfounded at the concept of pools starting on time, but there was DEFINITELY some shadiness going on with the brackets. Players showed up 30mins - an hour after their bracket was supposed to start, but as long as they had a bunch of initials in front of their name they just moved them to a later one. Also I overheard my pool TO asking people what character their next opponent was playing, then going back and studying the bracket.
I just wish they could get all the pieces right and stop trying to fuck all of the top players. I swear the top player politics are the thing I hate most about this community.
Other than that the tourney was ran well and I had a good time. That’s just a very difficult thing to overlook. I’d be super pissed and would have said something to Ghaleon had Jake’s predicament happened to me. I know this exact same thing happened to Josh’s-sister’s-boyfriend Jake for Marvel. Co-incidentally his pool was run by the same guy that ran Sparks’.
A lot of that stuff happens when you have “volunteers” running pools. You guys know that I am really strict about tournament stuff and even when there is ONE mishap from a previous tournament that I didn’t do a bracket for, I don’t tolerate it and I will run it myself the next time.
There will be issues with tournaments and no one is perfect, but seriously it just involves paying attention. The issues I had with brackets always came if I entered tournaments that I ran which I did until about 2008 and then I completely stopped doing it because it slows the tournament down and even at MWC when I was running and entering the same time we had a couple of errors happen as well. One time the computer shut off and erased a bracket and I had to recreate it from memory. That was really fun.
I’ve had only one tournament where I ever ran pools (MK Nationals) and that was super smooth and I even ran two pools at once while running around overseeing the other 4 and then we had another set of 6 pools a couple of hours later but all I had to do was pay attention and follow the brackets and keep up with what is going on. Even if you multitask well it can be difficult because you have questions going on at the same time and lose train of thought but a lot of new organizer volunteers that can’t run a 16 man pool? I don’t know about that one…
It’s even worse now that streams are such a big deal. People want to make sure top players stay in to keep stream monsters interested. Add that to the fact that top players know this and take advantage of it, and you’ve got a recipe for some gourmet bullshit.
I tried to gauge interest at hosting a monthly fight night so the East ppl could mingle with with Mid ppl, but guess it’s too far for either parties to get enthused over. Guess Cookeville gotta keep drivin’
Like has been said many times, most East TN players are hard to get in touch with. I do believe there’s interest because a lot of people who don’t normally post or who are new are saying they want to play locally (and people not posting here but reading cough). Some guys from Bristol, TN came into town a few weeks ago. I don’t know if it was ever mentioned here but people do travel to play one another, but it’s very hush hush most of the time
NeoBlood: Yep, and the problem is they are treated like rockstars and these are the issues:
The top players get flown out by either tournament organizer or partial sponsorship.
The person running the stream gets paid by the tournament organizer through cover charges or in some cases, by the amount of people on the stream if there are sponsors paying.
Basically the “win win” is the top players even if they don’t place (because they get money from money matches and the “privilege” to play them) and the person running the stream. The tournament organizer will make money with the amount of attendants there because cover charge will allot to them but make no mistake, the players that “go” to the tournaments that are “not” top players are treated like cattle. It’s almost like one big event for “fandom” for them.
All Dark Phoenix BS aside I was impressed with Flocker. He actually knows how to play her and played incredibly smart overall.
I’d love to see more of that defensive style play in Ultimate.
