Tennessee Thread - Arcade Edition and Turtle Nuts

I know, I totally agree, that’s why I’m trying to learn Tekken when I have the opportunity and that’s why I’ve been grinding on MvC2 for the past week. Sure, there isn’t a community for Tekken here in Nashvegas. Doesn’t mean there can’t be. I don’t quite buy that there’s not a community for Tekken in the greater US if KiT decided it would be in anyone’s best interest to come back. National majors don’t just spontaneously appear, there’s got to be a big-enough demand.

Well okay national majors do spontaneously appear if you have enough idiots with enough money in one place (case in point, the younger tourneys you’ve been having problems with Jason), but a Tekken major had to have a lot of demand behind it.

Regardless of your priorities, obligations, or whatever, all I ask it that you would share some of that time we me. I swear it’ll only make you better. I SWEAR!!! LMAO! Seriously though, when you guys see how much better Squabb gets from training with me you’ll come running. Hmph!

Bishop let me ask you a serious question and I want a serious answer. Can you beat the following players here:

  1. Cylus
  2. Sev
  3. Lycan
  4. Hiryu
  5. Eraser
  6. Justin
  7. Woostick

Arguably the best in the scene right now in no particular order. Also answer this:

How well did YOU place in the last ranbat season we had. And Whenever we have our next tournament, will you place in the top?

These are serious questions and I want serious answers. Otherwise you are slaw for life.

Poshib, you must be awesome. Why don’t you ever play with me?

The past couple pages have been one of the best discussions I have seen here in a while.

umm he just wants to help people out? what does that have to do with him beating certain players, or placing top in a ranbat?

I’m reading your posts and… I CAN’T UNDERSTAND IT!!:looney::looney:

I’ll be at GG tomorrow after work (4PM or 5PM). Hope to get some games in with JFord Tough and DreamyEyes (no homo…wait…YES homo…nah…no homo)…peace.

GGs to KrazyLJ, Jacob Ford, Trippfan, and Isaac (even through we didn’t play)

I hate this game sometimes…

I’ll be there, Mr. Buford.

Okay sorry for the non-fighting game related question – my PS3 just got the yellow light of death. Any suggestions on how to fix it? I have the original 20GB PS3 so I know it isn’t under warranty.

We need to hang out.

Aww man that sucks, but I hope everything goes well with your surgery mang.

The only thing I saw was Waku Waku 7…

I want to play Waku Waku 7. The game might just be too hype-MIKE…next time I come to Memphis, we are playing Waku Waku 7.

I’ll be there also. What times?

Saw this. Made me horny.

Hmmm. I’m not sure where this is coming from, at least for SF. If anything we’ve got some new faces coming into the scene (Grimstar, mav, lookatdisguy, tripp) because the higher level players are eager to get more people in and spend time playing with them (no homo). Also I am all for our scene growing and expanding. I tell Jason and Eddie and others all the time that I love our crew here and just want TN to be respected as a solid SF scene. This brings me to my next point…

Jason and other MidTN SF (or shit MidTN Fighting Game cats):
What can we do to expand on the scene? Really I think the thing we can benefit the most from is just playing a ton more. I know the past several months I have been grinding and playing almost daily with peeps online (Shawn, Phil, Sparks, Eddie, Tripp, etc) and that’s helped me immensely and I feel more solid because of it.

The reason I specified MidTN is because I know Memphis has Fight Nights, and there is no reason we couldn’t do something like that here. Especially considering, you know, we have an arcade.

Jason I know you have a lot going on but, if this is something feasible and we can put it together one or two nights a week, could you come out and play with us? I think we could benefit from having you there if this comes together. I really want to get us playing together, regularly, OFFline.

End transmission. Luv y’all.

Oh and I’ll be at GG tomorrow. Get off work at 3:30 and heading straight there.

I’ll answer this question for you. In Street Fighter – not very high. However, Bishop is a well-seasoned player when it comes to other games. He’s respected at Tekken, and easily the best BlazBlue player in Memphis. And when it comes to Guilty Gear, without a doubt he’s got the best Slayer in the nation. He’s well on-track to being an excellent SF4 player, and if he chooses to do so he’ll be good at MvC3.

Now, having said all that…

Okay, look. I’m not ever going to fault your enthusiasm. It’s just that your methods are lacking and frankly insulting. It’s like you’re actually offended that there are worse players than you here, and you’re acting like you think you’re some golden messiah that’s going to rescue us from mediocrity. It’s annoying, and it actually makes me not want to play. I’m not asking for someone to hold my hand, but neither am I wanting a drill instructor. I just want to play a game the way I want on my terms and not be reminded of how pathetic I am for not living up to your standards. If I suck, it’s my problem – not yours.

And really… if I want Tekken, BBCS, or GG advice, you’d be the first person I’d go to. But frankly, if I decided I needed help with Street Fighter, I’ve got Cylus down the road and Sev is an hour away. I wouldn’t be needing your services on that one, especially after seeing the attitude you’ve taken towards it. You’re right that you didn’t get much of a response to your earlier attempts, but all you’re doing with this one is just pissing people off. I’d rather people play the game than focus on how you’re acting about it. Act a little friendlier in your approach and I can assure you you’ll have several training partners.

I have it quoted from dream. It’s official. Street Fighter is all you should play.
Don’t you love how you can take one sentence from a statement and misconstrue what
point the person was originally trying to make?

PS GGs everyone I played online. I’ll be up at GG around 2-3

I guess that’s what I’m trying to get at, really. I keep seeing lots of mixed opinions about why the community here is weird or not growing or whatever and you’ve basically spelled out what to do about it. Playing more offline is the one big thing we really don’t do too well imo. That and maybe looking beyond other games that “don’t have a scene already” and making one happen. Street Fighter is fun but sometimes I need something else.

but of course i don’t actually “play” street fighter i just make jokes and occasionally bash at a fightstick with a big wooden club so i may be completely wrong

Once again

SSFIV tournament in Cooveille
When: Jan. 22nd at 12pm
Where:Downtown Comics in Cookeville,TN
How Much: $10 entry

i’ll be at the arcade around opening time tomorrow. i can probably stay until around 4.

No homo I’ll come earlier

Thanx. I’ll be fine though. It’s a relatively minor surgery as far as surgeries are concerned.

I’m down with doing something like this.

Negro Justice: I am going to Chicago Jan 20-21 and then I guess from there I will find out what my schedule will be like.

I am definitely open to playing offline weekly. The days I DO NOT work are Monday, Friday, and Sunday, but I end up working most Fridays and some Mondays anyway so I guess it just depends on when/where everyone else can do this. I am definitely only going to able to do this ONCE a week though once the book starts rolling though. I also want to play some Tekken with Cody since I will be at home more but will need breaks from time to time and would like to play both games (he is aware of this as of at least a month ago)

Here are my questions:

  1. Is it possible to have a get together with both Tekken and Street Fighter and people actually WANTING to play Tekken?

  2. What days are best with everyone?

  3. Where can we host something like this with 10-12 people? The arcade we can actually stay until 10pm-11pm but I am sure we all want to do this without a time limit, so I am thinking a weekend type day might be better (Fri-Sat)

  4. We tried Fight Nights with Ranbats on Thursdays (per Shawn’s original idea) but no one showed after Week 2. Also, we are pretty spread out (Cookeville, Clarksville, Bowling Green, Murfreesboro, Nashville) so would this be something that is mutable?

Be back in a bit, UNLV game about to start

Violence against women is hilarious. =D http://bit.ly/h5N9fQ
