Dream you’ve cut me deeply… I wasn’t even included in the flaky Knoxville player list?! I mean look at me! I NEVER meet with anyone to play and I’m on XBL all the time! LOL
Really though, I’ve mentioned it to Thomas and Josh both on IM that I want to do a regular “lunch session”. I’ve got about an 1.25-1.5hr every day, so I figure I can turn one of those days into some play possibly. I know Thomas’ location (off Chapman Hwy) is fairly centralized to my work (right off of John Sevier Hwy) and I believe he’s willing to host - let’s plan on AT LEAST one day a week at his place in real life - Thomas (if you still read the thread) you cool with that? Crystal/Josh - you down?!?!
EDIT - also, just found out I may have to travel to Dallas on short notice, if so I believe I will be in Nashville to fly out, so I will definitely hit up GG on my exit and return… hopefully it will be in the next few weeks…
My opinion? Yes, and strictly for the DLC, as they will be tournament legal and you don’t want to get blindsided by a sudden Jill/Shuma player because you don’t have the matchup practice.
I mean really, they’ll probably both be $10 anyway, and that extra $10 can automatically be made up for by carrying a setup to a tournament and getting an entry waver.
That’s the way I tend to look at these things, anyway.
Well actually that is sort of not true. You can go into training and practice combos and moves over and over until it is muscle memory. That is what Josh does but you have to play against someone else (preferably in person) to get your reactions better and to learn to use those combos and moves that you learned in training.
Okay I am just going to shut up now cause I am on this board trying to give advice on a game that I don’t have a clue how to play. I am going to go sit quietly back in my corner now.
You learn the combos and setups in training mode, then you execute them against the CPU if you have nobody else to play against. Then you find other players of approximately your level and play against them, then you play against people above your level as much as you can. Then you wash-rinse-repeat.
If you need to… play with a notepad next to you. No, I am not kidding. If something happens that you have absolutely no idea how to handle… then write down a note on the situation and figure it out in training mode. If it’s just something like you fucked up an anti-air then don’t bother.
Weren’t you supposed to come over one day to play? I think it snowed or something though. You know Josh is always up for playing anytime. Just let me or him know when. We are in Fountain City right off of Broadway. If you take 640w to Broadway you can be here in 15 min from John Sevier.
Sometimes I think people are just uncomfortable coming here…maybe because Josh is a kid or maybe because they think they would have to watch their language or be on their best behavior. I wouldn’t invite people if we weren’t cool with it. Josh puts his xbox in the living and there is plenty of room in there. I even offered to cook for people before (and put the dog outside so she wouldn’t scare the shit out of people, lol). Only Andrew and Graham came from Cookeville. The only thing I am really strict about is no smoking in my house. I don’t know, I just don’t understand it.
Oops!! I forgot BOTH Aarons from Memphis came over. Sorry guys!!
I actually do that. I even go back and watch our endless matches and take notes on my execution and also failed pokes. I research all the time to find new things out. It is just a very time consuming process but i do it to attempt to get better.
I am not uncomfortable with that. I just never knew that you guys were so open to people playing and stuff. I was surprised that you offered to let me carpool to tourneys if you guys have the room in the car. I honestly think you’re really awesome.
If anyone on XBL Super Street Fighter 4 right now just hit me up with my tag Sunstone1 for a few online matches. Will be on for a while. MVC2 too if you have it.
You guys are going to give me a big head. :lovin: I just believe in supporting my kids in what they love to do. They are good kids and I can trust them which enables me to be able to give them a certain amount of freedom. We are at the point now that they are older and I can be a friend in addition to their Mom. I am fortunate to have a very good and open relationship with both of my kids. They know they can talk to me about anything. It also helps that we have homeschooled since 1997 and it gives us the freedom to do what we want, when we want (which is why you all see Josh on xbl at all times of the day). My daughter is in college now so that affects scheduling for going to tournaments somewhat.
If you only knew how many people my daughter has over here on a regular basis…you wouldn’t be surprised. LOL! My husband doesn’t care, he has his man cave downstairs and if it doesn’t affect him, he doesn’t care. Yeah the carpool thing is no big deal if I have room or if I am not staying longer. It just saves me some gas money.
Damn dude, were practically going to be having mirror matches… Swap out magneto for Viper and that’s my team
Dude after reading some of your posts on the last few pages I know EXACTLY how you feel. I just started trying to play this game seriously maybe 4-6 months ago? And for the looongest time I felt like I was getting nowhere fast. But after playing some of these guys I can tell I’m improving, I ask a lot of questions when I play with them too and they always give good advice and are chill as fuck.
As for thinking you couldn’t get any worse… Let me tell you this: I played Phil a few nights ago on XBL and he used Dudley and I use Viper… Well he STOMPED me almost entirely for a good like 20 damn matches straight before I even got a round on him. We took a break, came back, I recollected my thoughts and tried to think out what I was doing wrong, and what I think I could catch him on. Came back and we played another good 20 or so matches, I won MAYBE 2 of them, but I was finally giving him a run for his money for several of those matches and he was barely beating me on a few rounds. I was at least taking a round on most of them, even if I didn’t win. Which was a major improvement within the time span of an hour I’d say.
It’s all about trying to actually pay attention. If you just lose and get frustrated and don’t think twice about it, it’ll happen again… and again… and again. But if you can figure out what you’re doing wrong, change what isn’t working in your match(es) and devise a new strategy for whatever you are lacking in (defense in my case) then just keep trying something until it works.
I’ll go ahead and go into more detail about that match with Phil… He kept catching me with Jet Upper and getting a counter hit in on me. Usually between what I thought were somewhat safe block strings. For the longest time I was just going “ok WTF is this” and not thinking about how to react, and then FINALLY after we had a break and I could clear my thoughts I was like “Ok… I can bait that shit easily” so I started to do that. You need to look for patterns in your opponents game too. If they always react to something a certain way, you can practically force them to do it and then punish it. So that’s what I did, and it was working for the most part. I could bait his DP on an anti-air or when he would go for it on my block strings, rather than letting him get a counter hit, I’d just wait until he did it then block and punish. Of course Phil is a really good player, so even though I adjusted he can adjust even faster than I can right now, lol. So he started mixing everything up again and I had to start from square one again. But this time it was going better for me because I wasn’t allowing myself to get frustrated and was actually paying attention.
I still can’t beat him consistently, but damnit I’m getting close! I know this was a bit of a long post… but hopefully it helps. I’m new to this game but at least have some prior fighting game experience that still applies. Others here can probably give you far better advice than I can, but hopefully mine helps. Good luck man, and hit me up on XBL or if you go to the AE tournament maybe we can get some matches in there.
I need to do this.
YOU ARE LIKE THE MOST BADASS MOM EVER!!! I love parents who actually support their kids in what they like doing instead of being close-minded about it. I want to give you a medal
Hmmm…it seems to me that MEMPHIS wants to stay at the same mediocre level that it’s at. I think it’s been over a month now since I made an announcement at Hasting’s saying that I need a SERIOUS training partner, intend to do more traveling to tournaments this year, and A LOT more leveling up. The only person that seemed to show any real interest is Squabb but I suppose he’s too busy since we haven’t had not 1 training session. I just need 1 person that really wants to improve and has an open enough mind to not only listen to what I say but apply it to their gameplay.
It’s been almost a year since Super has been out and I seriously doubt ANYONE from Memphis has what it takes to place at any kind of serious out of state tournament. Hell, Wootstick seems to be the only one that can even place in a TN tourney lol and the same guys that he lost to go to the bigger tournaments and cant even place top 8(no offense guys, just proving a point). Memphis has so many players with the potential to be extremely good players but so many of us use life as an excuse when all it is is our own laziness. Now if your one of the guys that just wants to play online and stay an average ass Memphis slaw then Im not talkin to you. Im talkin to the guys that watch these streams and say to themselves “Man, I wish that was me.” You don’t have to wish, that CAN be you.
You can complain and make excuses about how your character cant do this or that and how so n so is this tier or you can just STEP THAT SHIT UP! Most players here arent good enough for the damn “tier list” to matter anyway. If you’re offended by this post then good but instead of gettin on hear and tryin to flame me to make yourself feel better, how about you do yourself a favor and hit the damn training mode! This isn’t just some angry rant, this is a wakeup call and a call to arms to my Memphis peeps that actually wanna do more than just “play the game”.
Lemme ask all of my Memphis players a question. How often do you go to training mode, how long do you stay in there, and what kind of training do you do BESIDES combos?
I train just about everyday for at least 3hrs a day. Besides combos, I try to figure out how to get out of certain vortex situations, what normal beats that normal(against various characters), safe jump setups, option-selects, punishment, and U2 bait setups(for Cody). I also occasionally practice with:
Ibuki
Guy
Ken
Seth
Sakura
Adon
Makoto
Dudley
Sagat
Dee-Jay
Balrog
Fei-Long
Rose
Viper
Hakan
Vega
DreamTR could you give me some tips on Claw v. Blanka match. I have read what is in the Claw forum but i am still having problems. Anything that you know that you could pass on?
