Ok, we are rescheduling Arcade Edition tournament for Jan 29th.
Blazblue is Jan 22 in Antioch
SSF4 Console is Jan 22 in Cookeville
SSF4 Arcade is Jan 29 in Antioch

gdbell: There are so many ‘majors’ these days it’s hard to explain. Devastation has only been around 2 years, they basically took our date for MWC a couple of years ago and were fine with competing against us, which affects our numbers but they were pretty bombastic about our tournament which I will never forget.

MWC has been around since 1994, it’s definitely the longest running major tournament at 16 years and I have been running them since 1997, all were in Chicago except for 2003 (Omaha) and I decided against running one last year because I wanted to do SBO last year for ST and have SSF4 and Tekken in the same tournament. Keits politely asked to use the name for MWC in 2010 in Chicago.

In November on SRK there was a thread in regards to tournament organizers contacting inkblot (Tom Cannon) about tournament stuff for next year and I could have swore I emailed him about this, but maybe I forgot, I don’t know I can’t find the email in my sent box but I did switch computers so who knows…anyways, I asked why MWC was not part of the EVO series…

I wanted it back for this year, I just got accused of “stealing the name” back (exact quote) and “abandoning” MWC (another exact quote) from an SRK mod (not inkblot) as to the reason WHY we aren’t having EVO quals.

Seriously, the conversation went from:
Him: You should have sent the email back in Nov.
Me: I did
Him: You didn’t even run a tourney last year and you abandoned MWC and stole the name back.

Now, somewhere, somehow, between two people we aren’t getting EVO quals for MWC. I don’t think it matters anyway because we had EVO quals for 2008 in Chicago and I can count all of 0 of Nashville who went with me to MWC that year (only spiralbottom went) so regardless of what the public considers to be a “major” is really whatever people are willing to believe based on hype, people being paid to go by other tournament organizers, etc.

Bottom line is this tournament is a major, but it’s fallen in recent years because of competing tournaments and crazy money in pots; etc.

Regardless of any of that, that is why it doesn’t have EVO spots (On another note fubarduck had the same thing happen to him but I think they are making reparations for him, I just never heard back after I emailed inkblot last week)…

It’s kind of crazy to think that after 16 years this tournament is hurting like this and to be honest I am being pushed out of stuff like this…there are tournaments on that list that have existed for 1-2 years but if they got in through November’s deadline and I didn’t that’s my fault…

also gdbell, you’ve been saying you would be coming to Nashville for ages, and you have Arcade Edition in your own backyard so I dunno, LOL

Woot! Now I can enter both easily. cool.

Oh wait, shit now I gotta take off work again :stuck_out_tongue:

u free dream thehater

LOL, haters!

Seriously though, gotta support the tournaments as much as we can, just really saturated these days in my opinion…

So yeah, Arcade Edition is now on the 29th, please show up and support!

I will never eat at Baileys in Antioch…ever again…

Sorry Jason, we can’t come back that soon and Stephanie has a cheerleading competition that day in Knoxville anyway. I think it sucks for someone to treat you like that. You have been running tournaments longer than most people have been playing and longer than Josh has even been alive. It just makes me shake my head at some of the fighting game community “politics”.

Ok I have seriously got to get off of SRK and facebook and do something productive. I am just cold and my head hurts and my bed is really warm and I just don’t want to. :crybaby:

Dream: Thanks you for replying sir. I see some politics and drama played into the decision so I hate to hear that. Hopefully you can get the quals next season (if they do it).

As for me coming to Nashville, lol I will come soon enough. Im sure plenty of people/slaws are eager to play me.

Also, it would be nice if a good portion of Nashville could come down for OUR next tournament. It would certainly be homo tactics if this didn’t happen. So when Abe and O announce/decide where they want to have it and they post up, I want to see an overwhelming number of Nashville players come down…which I’m sure won’t happen. But hey, a guy can dream.

Holla slaws!

gdbell: Like I said, EVO quals or not, that doesn’t affect numbers like people think it does.

Also, I think you need to get a grip on reality here (no offense), there isn’t a line of people waiting to play you. I made that remark about you coming to Nashville because, well, $15,000 was spent on the game, and you said you would come and play it. We’ve been open 2+ years…People that aren’t really supporting it but are very vocal about it doesn’t make sense to me.

About Memphis tournaments…there hasn’t been one in AGES, that is why no one here has went to Memphis for a tournament. Again, if you haven’t even BEEN to one of the Nashville tournaments but you are asking for people to come to Memphis tournaments that haven’t been done in months, then I don’t know, LOL…I mean, Nashville has come to Memphis for tournaments, I just think you are overlooking the fact we are the only place that HAS tournaments these days.

Hiryu,
I have your stick homie!

Why does everyone think that GDdoughbell is always talking shit?? If I may say so myself, talking shit is awsome! I probably would not even play the fucking game without it! What is Hype anyway? Hype and shittalk is in ANY competetive sport/event etc…etc…

I have never heard of so many GROWN MEN try and shut someone up for getting hype! Cry me fucking river please!

Edit: Dream, no offense to anyone, but if we have a tournament, 10 dollars is TOO much. Thats funny!

Hype is pain leaving the body.

LOL!!! Looks like i’m getting the game for free! :lovin:

I don’t understand this, are you saying our tournaments are too cheap or too expensive? I know our tournaments are cheap because people here don’t have a lot of money, but you need more money for bigger pots.

Also, “talking shit” is not something “grown men” should be doing all the time, especially if they can’t back it up. Most communities are what you say, “hype” and talking shit, but you see, there is a fine line between “respect” and idiocy. When I went to Florida do you know how many shittalkers and complainers and whiners there are there and excuse makers? That doesn’t exactly bode well for “respect”, makes people look bad.

Personally I don’t care what people think of me, but I would rather be feared and respected as a player than known as a shittalking hype guy who can’t back it up.

I mean, it’s one thing to razz your friends and stuff, but seriously, if you don’t know the other person, it’s a sign of disrespect.

Hope you have played the game at least.

I believe Lycan is referring to a Ville poster who shall remain nameless, who commented that the last SF4 tourney we had in Memphis was too expensive. We DID have the Ville come down though, Negro Justice, Fenix, Kodee, Boom Cube, mekkanic and Max I believe. That was even the first time I got to meet these fine gentlemen, as well as hoist a beer or two with them at the Saucer for post-tourney dranks.

Dream,
I am saying that everytime we have done a tourney here in Memphis, everyone always says they are too expensive. I wasn’t saying anything about the Nashville tournies!

About the hype and shit talking, I just think that without it, it’s completely and utterly boring. Why would I want to sit down and feel nothing during a match! Just feeling like a robot playing the game! No sir, I need hype! I need someone talking shit or something cuz then it’s just boring. I should just sit at home and play in training mode then. And of course, I dont talk shit all the time, I just do it when playing SF!
But respect is a must. Always. Never have I ever said anything to someone I dont know nor tell people, i’m just playing. I just can’t stand how people get butt-hurt over real hype!

Dream: On MWC, I meant to ask a question about that a while ago; glad you cleared that up. This community is so … rigid and bias about certain things that seem like common sense. I can defintley understand your frustration because even if you didn’t send the email, why wouldn’t he attempt to get in contact with you if the tournament has been run all this time? Sigh, well I will certainly be there to support since I have my car and I am finally done working for now.

Lycan: Hype takes on a different context depending on who is doing the “hyping.” I told you guys it looks funny when it goes so far and certainly when a medicore player is hyping (and that’s from talking to players or want to be players in Memphis). It’s all in fun but it can take a wrong turn or look simply childish in some cases.

Lycan: There’s a difference between shit talking/hype and saying a bunch of stuff that just makes you look ridiculous. Nashville DID come down to our last tournament, WHICH IS NOW APPROACHING CLOSE TO A YEAR FROM NOW.

Fucking Memphis tournaments? HOW DO THEY WORK?!

EDIT: Grammar corrections. DAMN YOUR INFECTIOUS BAD TYPING SEVERIN.
