Tennessee Thread - Arcade Edition and Turtle Nuts

Nina was broke in 5.0. Gear is too dead scene-wise but if you come to Memphis we’ll play with you. And maybe it’ll be at Final Round again this year. I doubt it unless Heidern and crew just run another side tourney.

Don’t touch BB. You’re still pure right now. Don’t get tainted. It’s not worth it.

Well, in order to avoid a long post, let’s just say that the diff between a mash Chreddy and a Chreddy that has some idea of how to play even slightly, is huge. It’s like, not even against higher comp, they won’t win with that mash shit. If you even know the strings a bit, you’ll shut that shit down no problem. I assure you, it’s not to the extent you think, and I used to say that shit too back in the day when Rell was teaching me the game. Orel was playing other characters too like Bryan. But yea, he didn’t get away with any of that when he was playing the game. Newer moves and strings maybe, but he wouldn’t have known if they were new or not. It was only when he got a “brain”, and could formulate a style, do his lil set-ups, and mix shit up that he was able to get wins. Eddy has good mix ups. But he also modified his combos, punished certain stuff he knew or could see, all that. I don’t ever think he ever brought that mash Chreddy shit around us, even when he first started, and if he did he prob got put off the sticks so fast that he’d never do it again. And Sev learned Eddy too, just to kick shit at Orel. So they both know that character well. And since they actually learned the game, away from arcades and online scrubs, I don’t even think they’d consider the mash out capabilities of which you speak. I swear man, it’s only like that if you are relatively new to game or have piss poor defense, then it’s the same as against other characters. You’ll get hit with random strings. They arent special in this regard except that if you mash the same two buttons with them you can do prob make more shit come out. THIS is that sense of accomplishment maybe lmao. It’s not unpredictable at all. It just looks…“more” I guess to the untrained eye I guess. It’s all mixups. Only certain shit they can do from stances, follow-ups, etc. and it doesnt change. Once you KNOW those(tekken=knowing) then you just have to react based on what you know or guess because…it’s a mixup.

And it’s good practice to treat most of Tekken as situational because no one is going to settle for guaranteed all the time. Everyone is greedy. You just gotta develop that awareness. That’s pretty much all I can say about it. And yea please get with Cody and play since you admitted many times to liking the game. The more you play, feel, and comprehend, the more you can reasonably school the other guys. I agree, sometimes you just gotta dive in it or you’ll never completely get it lol. Its just one of those things.

Me too…

Eww. That’d be hella unbalanced. And I think people just don’t like change, although I’ve heard this from a few Yoshi players. It’s odd because he’s much better in 6. I think it’s because they had to do so much to win with him in older games, and thus became locked in their individual ways and style. Haha the ONLY people that don’t like T6 Yoshi are the DR Yoshi players lol.

Tell him I wish him a Happy Birthday and I hope to see him at…

This! Now I don’t know what I can bring to MWC in terms of setups…but I would like to volunteer for the event in some way, whether it’s calling people to their stations or helping with brackets or just grunt work.

You will definitely see him at MWC and Final Round before then. I just realized that I still owe you shipping money for that stick. I am soooo sorry. I will get that sent to you asap. I have just been tapped out with all of the tournaments over the past few months, cheerleading competitions for my daughter and then the holidays. It gives me a headache if I think about it to long. LOL!

Jason, Josh may have told you already but he will bring a complete setup for MWC. Anything I can save on tournament fees is a good thing.

Actually it’s already on the roster for Friday. :stuck_out_tongue:

Hell, if someone can give me a place to crash I’d be happy to help out. I’ll help run any brackets I’m not entering, and I can bring a ASUS monitor with whatever systems are needed and a copy of MvC3.

And happy birthday, Josh! :stuck_out_tongue:

lol, I think you should set reasonable expectations Mike! :stuck_out_tongue:

You know I’ll help, Dream. If we can find a decent enough internet connection to do a stream then I’ll bring out the big guns instead of my laptop and do it up right.

That’s great. I never really know what games are on the line-up until I actually get there.

Yea, lmao. You can’t really just say a few words on that topic. It’s either attempt to clarify a bit(which ends up being a lot) or avoid it altogether. Plus I was on my laptop. Had I been on phone like always I would’ve achieved set goal lol.

Cant wait for this…

You can put me down to help out in setting up no doubt…

happy birthday to the younger bGosher :stuck_out_tongue:

Yes, I can help with a setup or 2, and if you need help doin other stuff…lemme know mang! I will join my fellow negralis-men in runnin shit.

Ohshit the SNK BIG GUN!

I can bring a setup w/ CRT. Just let me know.

Man… Abel is fun. He’s nerfed pretty bad in AE though, right?

Also, I’m going to be bringing a RECORDING setup to the tournament on the 8th. I’m going to capture videos because some people have requested that I do so. I’m not streaming or whatever and I don’t expect to be given free tournament entry or anything. I just wanted to let everyone know that they can probably get some real tournament matches recorded if they care about that at all.

The only “terrible” nerf was to breathless making it basically useless. Otherwise he got a slight damage reduction on TT and Ultra 1 not a huge deal, rolls are slightly more recovery but this doesn’t seem to affect his wake up tricks so this only affects people who randomly rolled all the time and he got a hit box change on the 2nd hit of cHP which sort of affects his AA but not all that much. Overall he is basically the same unless there were all kinds of yet to be released changes to his normals and such.

I played Abel as a main for about 3 months back in vanilla. I’m now turned back onto him and have started better understanding Breathless and whatnot. Overall I find Soulless much more fun and interesting. Can you give me some insight as to when I SHOULD be using breathless and when I can get away with using Soulless instead?

Also, you mentioned c.HP as anti-air. c.HP, c.MK, and EX falling sky (at the right angle) are the anti-airs that I have come to depend on. Could you tell me how c.HP as an anti-air is different? Also, do you have any other suggestions for anti-airs? I know that for up-close crossup schenanigans Abel can s.HP to anti-air reset his opponent and s.HK moves his hitbox temporarily forward enough to avoid most close crossup attacks.

Do you have any other information that you wish that you would have known when you were an intermediate level Abel player?

Sure.
-Breathless: This ultra is overrated in Super. Most of the time you want Souless for gteed damage and max comeback potential. That being said the best matches for Breathless are
Akuma: It stops a majority of his Vortex on wake up. If you have this stocked he basically has to go for cross up and even then with the way Abel bends down a lot of times he lands in front. So this gives you breathing room. It also is a brain dead punish for his A FBs
Cammy: Its the only thing that stops proper cannon strike pressure on wake up. And since its grab proof its one of the few wake up options you would have that doesnt loose to throw OS
Honda: Punishes all headbutts on block for free makes for very easy OS set ups on his wake up
Gief: Its your only safe option on his wake up since this ultra is grab proof and he is too low to be hit by lariat

Those are the only four matches where it really is “needed” and even then outside Honda in many cases I still use souless. There is something to be said for landing 1 poke into 500+ dmg. Some others matches that it does work some
Fei: In the corner you can set up U2 so its basically a gteed hit at right range. His ultra 1 wont armor break, last hit of chicken wing whiffs he cant jump ect.
Rog: A lot of Abel players use U2 cause there is a similar set up o Rog as there is with Fei. Though Rogs ultra does armor break.

For AA (You basically have this down already)
c:MK- Best and easiest to use option. Since his hot box drops way down and it will catch people very deep even if they are about to cross you up
EX Falling Sky: Beats damn near everything and is invulnerable from a few centimeters past his hand all the way to the center top of his head.
cFP: The reason this is so dangerous is that once you learn to use it as an AA where only the second hit hits you get free ultra. This can even trade into ultra if done properly. Thats what makes it scary
Close sFP: This stops any kind of close n jump, or cross up pressure for free if your not waking up. It can also be canceled into Roll for resets and or pressure if you want. Even in times where you dont think this move will work try it it stuffs so much its crazy. I have never tried using the close standing HK to move his hit box forward. But I havent found anything in the game that can really jump in on him for free due to his abundance of good AAs
sMK: Is another possible AA that angles high and hits quickly but I usually use it to keep people from jumping out after step kick or block string or as a spacing trick to move back into TT range

As for other stuff that may be good to know, I mean I could write pages and pages on that stuff. I am off today but should be at my PC all day so feel free to AIM me and I can give you as much info as you want. Go to pokes, pressuring opp’s wake up, tricks, spacing and best bet options for the guessing game situations

Idk what anyones plans for today are but I’ll be up at gg from 2-4
Also I’ll be able to supply a setup for mwc

I feel I have to reply to all this Tekken talk!
I guess you can say I am the type of person that doesn’t trash talk a game until I try it. Hence, you never really here me talking about other games because I don’t play alot of games! Needless to say, there are plenty of people in this thread that are guilty of that but to each their own.

Dream,
I can assure you that Tekken is not that way you see it. It is a VERY difficult game but that’s probably what intrigue’s people. I guess you can say I learned the basics the hard way. I had plenty of help along the way, but if you dont put in the time, then your cheating yourself. People will get in SF training mode for hours on end and not do that with Tekken. Again, to each their own, but certain things have to learned in order to play the game effectively and efficiently.

I can also assure you that I have never mashed anything with Chreddy! LOL! They are quite hard to play at any level TBH. I mean, anyone can mash, right? We all know what that does to your overall game. You are correct in the fact that Tekken is extremely hard to master. Oki is not that much big of a deal! After you get re-juggled or stomped a few times, you learn how to wake up correctly! Movement, however, is another ball park. To me, it is single handedly, the hardest thing to do in Tekken. When i learned to BDC(back dash cancel) I literally almost cried of joy. It took months. But it payed off! I still remember how CODY was the first person to ever give me a lesson in Tekken and I took it from there. Do I still suck at the game? Yes! But I try!

It all really boils down to if you want to learrn a game like tekken. If you don’t, then your going to bitch and complain, which is natural to anyone. If you do want to learn, you got some hard work ahead of yourself, but learning all these things will only make you better in any fighting game. I did not understand spacing, fully, until I played Tekken.

Everyone has to remember this though… Tekken IS the most known and most played fighting game on Earth. Guess that has to count for something!

Eddie, Chris, Pat - I have created a Facebook group for our Final Round 14 plans. Hotel is reserved and I’ve paid my registration fees. Please review the info.

Jason: I can def bring a setup to MWC. I got one CTR and a 360.

Jason I’ll definitely be bringing a set-up to MWC and I can help out any way I can, and I’d like to help with stream, commentating and whatever is needed.

Also, I would like to ride/room with whoever I can for Final Round.

This statement is hilarious! Yes Homo!
