I don’t even agree with mapping PPP and KKK. Definitely not focus attacks, ha.
I can attest to this.
Although if you used option selects while I was teleporting your wake-up pressure Dudley would be much more scary to Bison.
I.E. Jump in HK option select MP MGB, or maybe even HP, I’m not sure of the distance.
I personally get to incorperate option selects to safe Jump-ins now that Bison has a good ultra. No more EX Messiah/EX Bushin Senpukyaku/ teleports going without punishes when I get it down to perfection.
Newport News, but VA Beach is just a tunnel away.
As an Akuma player I always map PPP and KKK because I hate pushing three buttons just to try and teleport. So much easier to do on a mapped button. However, I have come to the realization that if one day i go to an arcade on the west coast or japan, which I do plan to do in the next couple of years, I will not have that luxury. So it is always best to learn how to do moves that require three buttons without a mapped button.
And wow all the Dudely hate! lol I think me and Shen long are the only ones sticking with him. But woostick and cylus make very valid points. As I hit the lab hard this weekend I will keep all this in mind and try and find ways for me to have the constant advantage once I get in. and has anyone completed his trails yet? Im stuck on 18 and it sucks. Oh and one last thing, as for his target combos, which ones does anyone who has messed around with Dudely think are the most useful?
More Juri News…
Lk pinwheel is infact punishable by Ryu’s sweep. So far Ryu can…Ken cannot…and Akuma cannot.
Her mk.divekick does cross up on certain crouching opponents at the correct distance. Guy I know for sure and Blanka…did not work on the shoto’s! back to the lab!
@gdbell:
In general, anytime you find yourself mapping something out to make it easier to do, don’t. For the very reasons you stated. If you get used to shortcuts, it may cripple you at a tourney.
Better to train without shortcuts, in order to bring your overall execution level up.
I messed around with him because I wanted to alt him, and honestly I don’t think I would ever use him over Bison because I like to rely heavily on pokes and constant pressure, both of which he lacks.
None of his target combos other than cr. lk, cr. mk seemed usefull to me.
Off a cr. lk I would perform: Cr. lk, Cr. lp, St HK xx EX MGB, Sweep, Sweep (corner only) OR Cr. lk, Cr. lp, St HK xx EX MGB, LK Ducking Upper (not corner)
If you don’t have EX perform the target combo:cr. lk, cr. mk xx lp uppercut xx HP uppercut.
if you have super: Sweep, Ducking super cancel
On wake-up: Safe Jump J. Hk, (option select if needed), f. mk, St. HK, (choose your cancel between a HP Upper or EX MGB and followup)
^^If they block stop after F. Mk and do cr. lp, (on block) either f. mk or tick, (on hit) St. hk (choose your cancel)
Hey Blinky, that was actually me you guys played last time you were here. I originally thought the fightpad he brought was a ps3 pad, and since theres a 360 in the vewlix, I told him it would be a no go. I found out a bit later it was for the correct system and it was cool for him to use it. I didn’t mean to come off as a douchebag or anything, it was more of a misunderstanding on my part over the fightpad, and for that I apologize. I look forward to playing you guys again soon, it was fun last time! You guys were all cool dudes, try to make it out on the 8th for the tournament if you can!
Sorry for the late response, I haven’t been on the site for a bit.
More Juri news… Her Kara throw is pretty decent. Not like Ken’s but certainly helps her out alot!
BnB combo for me is c.lk, s.lk, c.mp/mk, mk pinwheel…mp prefered because it does like 10 more damage and more stun!
gdbell, I have completed all of Dud’s trials…
#18 can be done anywhere onb the screen… corner or no corner… simply do the j.mk and then hit mp, mk, hp>super… they seem weird at first but to train just do the target combo on the Dan dummy for a while… then use the j.mk with the target combo…don’t worry about the super until your minds gets used to the first 2 parts. then cancel the last hit of the target combo into the Super!!! so the ending notations should be…mp,mk,HP cancelled into Super…that last hit should be cancelled basically!! hope this helps.
Edit… With Juri, be weary of that damn Kara…it’s better than I though. She can jump in with whatever normal, do 2 lights and still be in kara throw range…by the way, Kara throw is with mp…not mk!!!
The only rushdown character I’d rather in my face on wake up outside dudley is akuma. High or low into Ulra or Super. I think your sleeping on his pokes. I thought his pokes were shit until I found how to best use them. Fierce is a beast. I have yet to find anything that beats it outside of things with invincibility frames. He doesn’t have great long range pokes but his footsie game is deadly when used right. All of his regular moves can be canceled into a special save cr fierce, fierce, and cr fwd and cr fierce can be linked. His game is going be footsie’s canceling into specials to get in I think. 400-500+ of life gone for blocking low. 350-400+ for block high. But opinions differ. We won’t really know how it unfolds for couple of months.
Oh wow. Sorry for all that. I just kinda assumed you were Dream because you were always running the arcade whenever I was there, oh wow, damn.
I’ll remember that next time. Me and Drew will be there at least.
It’s all good, I look forward to playing you guys soon. Bring yo A-game
Blinky: You guys have not met me as far as I know. I own the arcade, but I am not there except in the mornings and randomly during the week. Most of the time storyteller or QCF Punch or scucci (not on this forum) are at the place. So I guess your friend just lost to Richard (storyteller) and got angry about it for some reason…
Cylus: Sheng Long is right, you are sleeping on Dudley’s footsies. His jab, strong, Crouching forward Kick, towards + Forward Kick and stand Fierce and crouch short are silly. He doesn’t need to have Balrog like counter pokes but he’s dangerous because like Balrog all he needs is a jab…Standing Fierce is crazy. Get hit by a couple of those from Dudley and you’ll completely have to change your gameplay against him.
Lycan and woostick: Thanks for the tips guys. I figured I wouldn’t need all those target combos in the trails so I just want to learn the two most reliable and roll with those. I already have to learn numerous mixups with Dudely in order for him to be effective. After i finish his trials i will begin to learn his most important bnbs and practice execution of those until Im tired of them. Also, I did a little lurking on the web and came across these guys from Vesper Arcade. They have the trials of each character up and have the hand motions of the combos being performed at the bottom left-hand corner. I find these helpful especially since I am new to arcade stick as it shows the movement and can kind of give you an idea of the timing.

Grand Viper: Sade is the truth dude…and shes hot! I can only pray my wife will look like that at 50!
I think that if you’re playing on a pad you’re doing it wrong in the first place. Having PPP and KKK buttons are a crutch only afforded due to the fundamental inferiority of the pad in this game. Then to take it a step further by mapping shit for focus etc you have to ask WHY they don’t just get a stick and do the right thing. They must not really care or be taking it seriously.
I’ve told Drew before that he could easily switch to stick because he’s only been playing fighters - well, hell, he’s been playing less than I have. I mean sure, they’re twice as much as a standard controller, and he’s not used to it at all since he never grew up playing Street Fighter II in the arcades (neither did I, I just mashed in MvC1 and 2, Tekken, and Soul Calibur), but it beats having to buy new FightPads every time because they’re practically wired to break, and hell, it’ll give him something to do for a few weeks. I never was good with the stick when I started either.
Geoff can play either but he prefers pad and has gone on the record of saying “I’m not spending $150 just to practice Rufus’s dive kick setups with a stick.” But fuck him anyway, since he seems to think I’m only worth a $75 discount on a hotel room for a weekend. He’s at MTAC in case any of you need to win some free money at Super
MISSHIN COMPRETE!!!
3/32" headphone jack = $3
Figuring out contact points to solder on a PCB I’ve never even seen before = Headache
Shit talking Memphis guys after installing a headset jack into the 360 side of my dual mod stick = PRICELESS
I think I’ve spent over $1K on just fight sticks since sf4 came out… :X
And I still suck…
I want to switch gears to something more positive.

I may be wrong about Dudley, it’s still too early to really know for sure. I’m just stating my experiences playing as and against him.
All the pokes you mentioned are good, except crouching forward kick, which is super slow (10 frame startup) and can be easily punished on block (-6). The problem is that none of them have any range and lose out to better pokes like shoto cr.mk. He has a terrible time against anyone with decent pokes and even worse with slow projectile characters with good pokes (Chun Li, Guile, Dhalsim, Dee Jay).
Stand Fierce is good but like I said, it loses to good better pokes, especially low ones. Dudley has the same weaknesses that he had in Third Strike basically but he doesn’t have option select parries to cover it up and get in.
I think he’ll still be good but he’s going to have too many bad matchups to be truly top tier. His damage is great and most of his links are really easy (most are 2-frames or more), but I just see him being zoned out and his great damage being a non factor for a lot of games.
