laggy matches against mashers. i dont even try block strings/combos against these players anymore. i just build a lead with a few s.rh and s.mk pokes and then turtle with DR and EX headstomp when they try to jump in (and they all do). i get quite a few rage messages for doing this. most of the rage messages i get go something along the lines of, “hey ***, learn how 2 play ‘proper’ insted of jus usin cheap tactics” (although usually with more swearing, name-calling and grammatical errors)
My worst problem comes from losing. Like another guy said, when i’m offline at a tournament or something losing isn’t a problem. But the moment I get online, I rage like no ones business. For instance, I try to play with people who are better than me, hoping I can leech off of their talent and improve my own game. Eventually, I get there. But in the process I manage to somehow lose 16 times in a row beore i’m able to keep up and THAT is when the frustration sets in.
Thats when I start blaming non-existant lag, buttons not working, move not coming out, etc etc and eventually I end up picking Ken and violently mashing out FP DP’s from full screen out of sheer frustration. I need to work out a way to just accept the fact that i’m just not that good at SF4 yet and not rage because of it.
The only time I get truly pissed off at online play is when I get hit with an autocorrected DP or ultra on wakeup. It’s annoying as hell.
Wow?That’s really bad.It is just a game.
I stopped playing online except with friends. It wasn’t the win/loss ratio (I did okay, not amazing) but the sheer fact that online… its random.
Not random on whether or not the other person is going to be good, but just overall random.
The majority of online players ditch all thoughts of strategy generally so I have to deal with high damage characters throwing out random moves.
Combine that with the fact that lag causes… interesting things to happen aside from the normal stuff (you press block and it doesnt happen is just normal lag sutff for any game) I have had some odd things occurr.
So you got people throwing out random high damage moves combined with wonky latency issues is really just not fun for me. It can still be fun… it really can. If you play against friends you can get some good matches going…
With the lobbies in SSF4 I will enjoy online paly a lot more as people may put thier microphones in and we can get some decent compition going… but fighting silent randomness online… not really fun for me.
My only real aim in sf4 is improvement and enjoyment as a result. I’m not so much concerned about winning as I am seeing improvements in my thought process and execution during a match. So losing because of a stupid mistake I made doesn’t frustrate me, because now that I’ve made that mistake I’m one step closer to correcting it.
What DOES frustrate me is playing against mashing idiots. I don’t lose to them, but its frustrating to know that I’m getting literally zero benefit in beating them.
I’ve had bouts of 50+ games in a row against some people in player match, where I’m only winning about 1/5 matches, but I actually have plenty of fun doing it. After about a month of play I’m now winning about 3-4 games out of 10 and the ones I lose are usually 2-1 and pretty close.
Laswagga
from the interviews for dayasha, i can tell you don’t know the scene and the game very well. but i think that you admitting this revelation could help you maybe if you stop having that stupid fucking mindset on thinking you know the game and stick with one character.
Also what piss me off…
Simple …
When you have a battle Plan … You try to do yer combo … Try to play your character correctly.Try spacing correctly.Try to do difficult combo and mess up … than you face someone who has absolutly no plan … Play like a complete moron …
Do random stuff … Spam the same move … you can’t read him because he’s absolutly terrible. He’s clearly not trying to improve … He’s wasting my time … Wasting the effort i put into the match … Wasting the respect i’m giving to him while trying to play my character correctly.I could spam headbutt the entire match and the result would be the same. It’s not that they’re bad but they play like they don’t give a fuck.
Why i should waste my time to play against such a player?I’m not learning anything and it’s hindering my play … because i take bad habit . Since those bad habit work better vs those kind of player.
Same goes with better player than me that change their battle plan because i’m less skilled. It’s happens and when those elitist prick do that i’m pissed off.Not because they’re better. But because they’re wasting my time also. Those 2 kind of player it’s why sometime this community sucks.
In fairness if better players than you start playing lazy because they can and still win, you should be able to take something from that.
I hate my damn controller.
Ex hands with gief turn into friggin ex spds.
yea, low jab, jab, short, ex spd. exactly what I wanted
here comes a fireball, lemme ex spd embrace it into my chest.
same when bulldogging blockin left to walk right, quick l, rights make me jump up right. so you can guess how charge chars work out for me.
I am now in the habit of punishing with just a crappy, simple throw because i’m just that used to getting fucked out of anything else after an SRK by online scrubs’ mashing and lag. Boy, all that time practicing links really paid off.
I pretty much rage when I get beat and I can’t figure out why, or when I don’t learn.
Then again, that applies to everything when you have a learning disability.
I get blue in the face when I lose to spammers.
My worst habit is anticipating an attack on wake up and usually throw a poorly timed fp DP or one that completely whiffs.
A few things piss me off when playing oline:
-
I get really pissed off with the constant tick throws. I understand some characters such as Gief, Abel rely heavily on command throws, which is cool, but Balrog, Akuma, I think theres no need.
-
A crap sagat who I’m totally destroying who manages to trade into f+FK + Ultra taking tonnes of energy and than running away firing non stop tiger shots.
-
Moving from Pad to Stick and than losing online, knowing that if I was using Pad, I would have won.
I’ll probably have the same problem since I just got my stick yesterday.
I can relate on the first part… I’ve been trying to improve my Akuma. Watch videos, read matchup data, etc. Then I go online to try and find some good matches because “practicing” against the CPU only gets you so far. You gotta be able to apply what you’ve learned on real opponents to progress.
Now for the most part, it’s been pretty decent. I find all kinds of opponents. Some really skilled, some scruby. Some are pattern players, some are completely random. It’s all good…
But a few days ago, I fear I may have snapped as I was assaulted by a barrage of FB spamming Ryu’s, one after another. That in itself isn’t new after you’ve played SF4 online for a while. What is surprising is how uniform all those Ryu players are from one another, and yet, their GP are from every spectrum. I mean, their GP may be anywhere from 2K to 15K, but their playstyle is EXACTLY the same:
Jump/Dash back and begin throwing fireballs like you’re trying to get rid of the swine flu virus - HADOUKEN! HADOUKEN! HADOUKEN! HADOUKEN! HADOUKEN!HADOUKEN! HADOUKEN!.. Full screen… Against Akuma… Really? At first, I tried just hanging in there and making it through matches. Most I lost, some I won (barely), but about the 3rd or 4th such same tactic FB spamming Ryu matches that lasted FOREVER, I just lost interest and started holding my joystick towards them. Don’t even bother blocking, just effin kill me already, finish the match, collect your precious points and let me move on to something more interesting. I would’ve rather played against a Dan user (and a bad one at that) than against another Ryu.
At one point, one of them had the guts to ask me why I was doing that? My answer was simple: I have no interest in playing against someone that doesn’t want to play me. If your tactic is to hit me or chip me once then run away for 90 seconds, I don’t have that kind of time to lose. I’d rather give you the points you SO CRAVE and move onto the next match as quickly as possible.
It was probably wrong to do what I did, but at the time, I just couldn’t stand it anymore… My playing time is precious to me. I’m a father of 4, the two last ones are 20 months old so they need constant attention. When I get to play, I want to enjoy myself. Losing, winning, that’s secondary (though winning usually means I did something right, and that’s my goal). It’s like you said: if my opponent has no respect for me, then how about I give you the same lack of respect for you and throw the fight? Not much fun playing against someone who doesn’t want to play back, is it?
Finally killed my Blanka fight pad. I was, ironically, playing Ranked so I wouldn’t care if I lost, to warm up for championship. Welp. I lost to a Cammy that did nothing but cannon spike the entire round, and got them three times in a row and lost every time. Then, proceeded to lose to a flowchart Ken. I think playing Ranked with my BP so low will make me play worse, if anything. GJjghjfgf. Anyways. Threw the pad against the couch, hit the corner and the cord broke off. :(.
Lol i’ll buy the pad from you if you dont need it/cant repair it.
I can always use good pcbs
wait what console?
“Tell your anger/frustration stories”
So I got back home pretty drunk this evening, played an hour of sf4, and lost 1000bp :<.
That’s my anger/frustration story of the moment.
