Television General Discussion

alright you sold me. i’ll give it a chance but i got 2.5 more seasons of house and season 1 of suits to get through first

Yea, things came up. It was either watch it piecemeal or just DVR it and wait until I got the chance to sit down and enjoy it. Watched the first half last night, didn’t have a chance to watch the second.

To all my fellow SRKers - if you have tons of free time listen to this one piece of advice: Enjoy and make the most of it.

Def go through season one of Suits.

Am checking out Saving Hope. First two episodes was more than enough for me to keep on going til it runs dry.

I’m tempted to start watching the killing once I’ve finished season 5 of madmen.

Anyone catch Falling Skies?

S1 of The Killing will take patience. S2 makes it worth it for the most part.

Finished watching Falling Skies tonight. Great episodes. Even though the stories and action were there the thing that stood out the most for me were the small details. The new scar Anthony has across his face for example.

so he didnt leave a message with the little boy in the second episode?

Please keep any conversation about specific events of an episode in spoiler tags. Thx.

Ghost doctor told the kid to tell her he loved her, but when the kid came through he could barely remember what happened in the spirit world but drew an out of body vision of himself lying bedside with the coma doctor standing next to him.

edit: Hot doctor babe got the idea.

Some FX shows that premiere Thursday night:

  • Anger Management
  • Wilfred
  • Louie
  • Brand X with Russell Brand

Went through Suits season 1 in one day. lol Great show!

Also, I’m not a fan of anime but I watched the first 3 eps of Avatar: Air Bender on Netflix and I am hooked. I’m sure you guys know how good the show is by now. Its smart, its funny, the fight scenes are well choreographed and the episodes don’t drag. Also, started watching the new Legend of Korra which seems to be for more mature audiences and darker themed but still excellent.

Also on Netflix (might not be on American ones) but Mr. D is pretty decent especially for a Canadian show (originally on CBC, although I have never seen a single ad promoting it). It’s about a bumbling highschool teacher with high self-confidence. Think Ricky Gervais in a school setting. The main actor seems to be doing a David Brent impersonation but it does not come across as grating. I believe it has been renewed for a second season airing January next year.

More thumbs up for Suits? I gotta find time to check this out.

Still haven’t watched Avatar either. Isn’t there a sequel series to it now?

Yeah it is set 70 years(?) from the original and follows the next Avatar. The mythology is so richly developed in the original Avatar that they should’ve just picked a different Avatar story to tell in the Shyamalan movie (not that it would’ve helped) instead of ruining the story of Aang.

Suits is shot here in Toronto (except for the first episode) and I agree with Gabriel Macht, it should really be shot in New York. Some non-establishing shots are obviously not in New York. One scene has a New York banner but the street sign and the street car shed clearly says Queen Street. lol. I know the Canadian government gives ridiculous tax rebates but is distracting sometimes. Also, I can imagine it is harder for actors because the vibe of the city is different. oh well, I guess that is why they are actors. The guys on post just need to be better at CG’ing out all the Canadian flags which they turn into just plain red flag in the show as well as the street names.

Speaking of shows shot in Toronto, finally new eps of Rookie Blue! I love this show because it is actually set in Toronto and they don’t hide the fact that it is Canadian (sometimes). Flashpoint is weird with the sometimes American sometimes Canadian sometimes non-descript setting.

PS.
Also on Netflix, watching Unusuals with Amber Tamblyn and Hawkeye/Bourne Legacy (forgot his name!). I don’t even remember any ads or promos for this running and which network it was supposed to air at. It’s a dramedy with a bit of grit and grounded in reality but it has that neo-noirish characterization (minus the storytelling techniques) where everyone is a smartass. The cast is very strong (Harold Perrineau and Adam Goldberg are in it too) and I was surprised with Amber Tamblyn, why isn’t she in more shows? This was probably in ABC but cancelled immediately, NBC is too dumb to make something like this and CBS’ audience is too old to appreciate it and they don’t swear so it is definitely not in Showtime or FX.

Amber Tamblyn had a role on House if that interests you.

Anybody watch Common Law? I think its pretty good.

I’ve seen a few eps, it’s alright.

Anyone watching The Newsroom, saw a snippet on the Colbert Show so thought I’d check it out

First episode introduces the characters and centres around them coming together over the BP oil crisis. Really good first episode, all the characters seem interesting, some funny moments, music can get overly romantic at times (the intro is just painful).

ok so i went through the entire 8 seasons of house and it was decent. caught up with suits and it’s ok. a couple of things about it irritate me but i’m still watching it. season 2 of the killing was really good. the payoff at the end was definitely worth it imo.

i’m going to start watching episodes (with joey tribbiani) next. can’t wait till breaking bad comes back!

Breaking Bad is almost here! The first seven episode titles are already out (for those who want to speculate)

I have the Newsroom banked on DVR and I’ll watch it in chunks later. I loved Studio 60 and was dissappointed when it got canned. I know Sorkin is taking a hit from critics lately about his female characters but I’m sure it’s unwarranted horseshit like the critics who piled on The Killing’s first season.
